i love it when Maangchi tells us stories about herself and her grandmother. It is so heartwarming, im sure Maangchi's grandmother is very proud of Maangchi's cookings
My 7th grade daughter and her friends (none of which are Korean) wanted to run the Korea booth at their school's international fair so we served this dish and it was approachable enough for them to do the cooking with my supervision. We increased the recipe by a factor of 10 for the number of people we expected and we still had nothing left. A big success! It was delicious and they learned so much! Thank you!
Maangchi, I watch every video and wish to taste every dish you make. But you know what I really crave and enjoy? Your stories of family. You tell us so much about the joy of families and how food is such an important means of not just nourishing a body but of connecting with loved ones and remembering those who've passed. When I think of my grandmothers I think of Swedish Meatballs and Fried Chicken. With my Mom it was Lasagna. With you Maanghi it's...Kongbiji-jjigae! I cherish every visit with you. A million thanks!
: ) Thank you so much for your nice comment! I love to taste your grandmother's Swedish meatballs, chicken, and your mom's lasagna! "With you Maanghi it's...Kongbiji-jjigae! " lol!
Omggggggg... nooooooo... I feel uneasy now!!! I'm the kind of people who has to sit through a terrible movie just because I need to know the end hahahahahah
So, now I made Kongbiji-jjigae for dinner. My fiancé and I were so happily surprised. It really is what you tell in your video! The creaminess of the soybean pulp fits so well together with the sour kimchi, the pungent broth and the heat from the chii peppers. And the kimchi and chili peppers warmed our bodies. We needed it, it's so cold here in Sweden (we already have some snow in our area). So once again, thank you for introducing Kongbiji-jjigae, for enriching our culinary lives and for making us survive the winter! You really are amazing! ❤👌🏻
Hi!!! I am korean and I want to make this to my american friends someday. But what I worry is about the smell. Didn't it smell bad to you? I grew up eating this a lot, so I am ok with the smell. But I am curious how it smells like to people who never had it before!! Thank you for reading my comment😊
I really appreciate that you include alternatives for vegetarians, because this would be amazing for vegetarians. All those beans have a ton of protein, and combined with rice and veggies it’s a very nutritious meal! I’ve recently become vegetarian and I’m very excited to try this recipe out :)
Good morning! It's 9:00 am here in NYC! Thank you so much for your nice comments! Your comments makes me feel excited and happy all the time. We have English, Korean, and Greek captions (done by Sofia Anna)! 정확한 한국어자막 올리신분께 특별히 감사드려요! ru-vid.com_video?auto=yes&ref=wt&bl=watch&v=aBbQ4F0jBug
Hi hi hi it's 9.00 pm in India. Thank you so much for your reply. Love u so much. Many ingredients are not available in India but still I like your videos so much because of the way you prepare the dishes. Love you😍

Dear Maangchi, I made your kongbiji-jigae tonight with the frozen precooked soybeans I had previously prepared and stored from your touyou recipe, and it was amazing!!! My mom and grandma found it so delicious that we had seconds, we all felt very warm & full when we were finished! Thank you so much for this amazing recipe and congratulations on your 3 million subs!
엄마가 해주시던 콩비지가 생각나네요 :-) 업로드 감사합니다! 외국생활에서 큰 힘이 됩니다. I thought my mother's Biji-jjigae, when i did see your video. Thank you for uploading. This Video give me big energy in my life as foreigners.
Maangchi, I've been making this stew for a while now, with vegan meat and stock. I used my Maangchi recipe homemade kimchi for it for the first time and it was out of this world. One of my favourite meals ever. Thank you
Maangchi, you saved me from weeks and weeks of boredom!! I got Covid about a month ago, ended up in the hospital for a week, and now I’m convalescing at home. I haven’t had the energy or concentration to do much more than watch short videos and your yummy videos are my go to everyday I wake up. Brings back so many memories. I can’t wait to try out your recipes once I get better and get to the Asian store. Thank you for making these wonderful videos!!!! 💖🤤👏
My grandma passed away 3 years ago, watching this video and you talking about her reminded me of my grandma 🙁. I think no matter how many years pass you still miss them
You are such a nice person! My favourit part was the story about your grandma, she would be very proud of you! I could hear your stories about your life in Korea all day long! Greetings from Spain! 🤗
Hearing you talk with such love for your granmar made my heart happy and sad I list my mum this year and she taught me to make so many dishes and it makes me feel close to her when I make them loved you saying your granmar is alive when you tasted the stew ❤❤❤
I really like and appreciate the childhood stories you tell, for me especially these days, those simple little things I can recall as a child means more to me then anything else I’ve accomplished as an adult - 👌
It looks delicious Maangchi! Not only delicious but it looks like once you soak your beans it comes together rather quickly. A wonderful recipe that I will have to try one day! I know old man winter is trying to settle into my neck of the woods as well so, this looks very warm and comforting! Thank you for sharing your recipe, and your story! Take care!
I'm very happy to hear that you are going to make this stew. Yes, once you know how to make this stew, you will be able to make it forever. It's really delicious! Be sure to get organic dried soy beans.
Thanks to this lovely video, you made it easier for me to choose what to cook for dinner tomorrow. I'll certainly have a warm, cozy (and vegetarian) Kongbiji-jjigae. Thank you so much for introducing this dish for me! And also thank you so much for enriching my culinary life! 😊🙏
This wonderful lady's recipes and stories always make me smile. I always love the little chirp of delight she makes when tasting the food. So adorable!
Hi Maangchi, I bought soybean last few days after watching your video and I just made kongbiji-jigae for lunch today. My twin sis and I love it very much!!! It's such a heart-warming dish, we're full and contented. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful recipe with the world~! I will cook this for my grandma next time =) This is the 13th Korean dish I learn from you and still counting~
You are my favorite person on RU-vid I’ve learned so much about Korean food thanks to you. I love cooking and I love to learn about other cultures foods and you have taught me so much. You are loved by many and you’re sweet personality is so lovable. I hope you are doing well.
I just love watching you eat Maangchi. It sounds so strange saying that, but when you do, it's as if the food comes alive and I am tasting it with you. Great video as always!
@maangchi thank you so much for sharing this. I was craving my mom’s biji chigae and this was perfect. Thank you for sharing! Also totally agree with you. The stock is super important for all Korean soups. Thanks again for sharing all your stories and wonderful cooking tips.
Ohhhhhhh !!! How beautiful you are!!! Looks like a doll !!! A crockery doll that cooks !!! I love you, maangchi !!! A hug from here to Brazil with all your affection and admiration !!!
This is one of my absolute favorite Korean stews! I'm not Korean so when I order this, the aunties are always very surprised since this isn't one of the more popular items. But oh my, a kong biji jigae is so delicious, warming and just comforting. Think of it like Korean polenta or grits, but softer and with more flavor!
"the aunties are always very surprised..." haha, I understand why they were surprised! You must love Korean cooking. My grandmother's kongbiji jjigae was so tasty that I always remember hers.
I love your channel Maangchi! Every single one of your dishes I tried was explained so easily, and cooked by me so easily,Thanks to you! My favorite is the Mochi with sweet red bean paste, and the sweet red bean paste filled buns which my kids love!!! Thank you!
Maangchi I love your videos so much I'm from South Africa and we don't have a lot of Korean food here but it's my favourite! There was a lady who had a stall in a market with korean fried chicken and japchae and I was so excited to speak to her and I tried kimchi for the first time it was yummy but unfermented
My mom makes something similar but with peanuts instead of soybeans! It also is very creamy and of course nutty. She’s from South Africa but close to the Mozambican border where they cook with a lot of nuts
I love this stew, i can't wait to make it and taste it. I want to see where you grew up in Korea, any chance of doing "Maagchi goes back home" series where we get to see where your grandparents live, where you grew up, where all your delicious recipes came from? I would love to watch you make food, eat and tell stories about your childhood memories. You are my favorite!! Thank you for all you do and share.
Maangchi ...I love ur recipes..been following you for years ... writing here for the first time . I ate ' sundubu jigae' at a local Korean restaurant in Chicago and it was amazing...can u plz make it sometime! As a vegetarian broth plz..
I can’t tell you enough how much I LOVE your videos!!!! It’s funny I don’t have an ounce of Korean in me but I swear it’s like I’m pure with the crazy love I have for Korean food 😁 You are awesome!!!
I love how you were lost in nostalgia, telling your story. The alarm was kinda a harsh reminder of current time, snapping you out of it. I love good stories, thank you for sharing.
YEEESSSSS!!! I was just thinking about how this might taste!! I was watching a mukbang and this guy was eating this and I wanted to know how good it was 😂😂 now I can find out!! Thank you Maangchi!!!
.......gorgeous bubbling stew, and........ And? I would love to listen to the full story but anyway good job maangchi you make my day happier with your videos
How are you so good? I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for the contents, love your delivery and stories along the way. So talented and so entertaining to watch. soybean stew, who knew? I am korean but just learned about this in my late 40's, yikes!
Keep eating Maangchi! My mouth is watering! :-) I'm going to attempt to cook this recipe. I have both of your cookbooks, and I LOVE your recipes! I tell Everyone about you. I sent my sister a picture of one of your recipes I prepared, and within seconds, she had ordered both of your cookbooks as well. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication!
I’m from India I love your recipes even though I’m an vegetarian but your stories are so exciting and you are too very cute and most of the time I don’t get stuff to cook your recipes 😔
My mom used to get soy pulp from the place that makes tofu. She would make a simple stir fry with it, which tastes so good on rice. Nowadays we can't get soy pulp there anymore so if I wanna try this dish out, I might have to make them myself 😁😁
와 콩비지찌개~ 겨울도 오고 나이가 들수록 비지찌개 맛이 더 구수해지는거 같네요.🤣 This stew is very hot(🔥). koreans are used to eating hot food. but yiu guys be careful your tongue~ Enjoy try to cook and food.
I know your content isnt ASMR but sometimes I watch your videos to help me sleep. :) They're so relaxing, and you're so cheerful and kind. It reminds me of cooking with my mom as a kid.
When u mention ur grandmother..ur voice change... it make me tear..huhu.. but she is very proud of you. Btw, nice recipe as always.. i'll try make a vegetarian one 😀
