Looking good so far I love rat rods they are so cool my brother made a awesome one about 30 years ago it was black with lots of crome.

Hey Bob, you may want to look at a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle. Narrower than you might think, they are usually limited slip, set up with disc brakes with shoe type divorced parking brakes inside the hat of the rotors

Thanks for showing the reality of rod building instead of the paint-by-numbers style of the so-called "reality shows". I lost track of the hours I spent eyeballing and measuring and moving things around only to end up moving all again! But its worth it in the end if those proportions come out right. I can't help wondering how all these 34 Ford 'glass body panels are so different. Maybe one manufacturer took molds of a real '34 while another scaled up measurements from photos or something?

Bob, just an idea, you could do a tour of all your cars and briefly drive each? I’d like to see it

Im sure that axle would be plenty but you can source a 8.8 out of the ford explorer, rear disc in alot of them. The loaded poackages come with limited slips. Some video's on RU-vid on how to shorten it if you need to. I did one, wasnt bad at all. One side is longer. Chop the long side of the housing then get another short axle shaft. You can chop it just shy of 3 inches

When I built my roadster I had to make most of the body, and assemble it on my frame table.

The inner fender panels will help you line up the body and the grill spacing and put the body in the correct position on the frame…

Hi Bob, I think the 8" will live. Your car wont be that heavy. A posi unit is tougher to come by though.

As long as the car is light the 8" should hold up. You even have a decent choice of gears , thanks to the popularity of the Mustang.
