Typical backyard hot rod of the time when everything was on a tight budget and you just put together what you could get or have available. Just a fun drive and not all for shiny appeal. 😊
These informational videos are solid, thank you. Turning 40 next month and I always looked past the hot rods and focused more on the muscle car era as a kid and through my 20’s and 30’s, now I like the old hot rods and even rat rods haha. You do great work and you’ve got a subscriber for life
I'm 73 now. When I was in the BoyScouts in grade school one of the older scouts showed up in a open engine channeled 5 window coupe simular to the Pagoda City coupe. That was it! I was ruined for life. I've never forgotton it and the rest of my life when people ask "if you could have any car in the world what would it be?" Hands down 5 window coupe! Still remember what was painted on the side of it. "The Litl Hobo". Keep building them man and I will keep watching.
Love the backstory on your coupe. The "Christmas tree" stickers make more sense to me now. Always looking forward to anything you're working with. Keep on wrenching.
Hi Matt, your knowledge is always impressive and your passion for vintage iron, astounding!!❤ There is never a lull with ITG segments, even when your away traveling Mike and Steve carry the torch very well. Thank you!!
Guy I used to work for said the east coast channel job look came about because the floors and subrails would be already gone in any car more than 5-6 years old
I just watched an Eastwood SEMA video. You were manning the booth taking lessons from Gene Winfield. What an honor. No wonder you're such a good body man. You learned from the best.
My 57 Catalina came to me in red primer that was shot probably 30 years ago. Last year I went on eBay looking for a set of skirts and found a nice set, cheap.... in the same shade of red primer! Inspired by your Pagoda City Coupe, I think I'll just leave it that way for a while.
Thanks Matt! Been wondering about that one, got a random of you doing the floors in it about halfway through the Forgotten hot rod project, which was the first time I caught you guys! Cool story, lots of real info, a good eye, and a good team. I like what you've done, doing what you like for work instead of fighting work for the hours. Well done.
Crazy , how a car that is so simple, is so complicated .I live in s jersey .my wife and I drove up to the Pagoda ,just to check it out ,(since I heard you talk about it). We didn't know what to expect ,crazy building ,but I did have a couple hot dogs . You always do outstanding work ,I guess that's what comes from being focused .
Awesome rod and awesome video mate. Really disappointed I couldn't get to the ASRF Nationals here in Australia over Easter. Was to be a highlight having my 41 Coupe there and meet you but then my health decided to play up and we had to stay home. Take care and keep the awesome content coming! Brett
This is a Awesome idea and video! ... thanks for sharing this. IT'S cool to have the entire history, stories and even the ride along video. ... Great job buddy!
you did an exceptional job on the build, I have been watching for a good period of time, and love to see you drive it to shows, and round. It matches my late brothers era, though he was west cost "lakester", the same level of detail makes them all just beautiful to me. Keep going as long as you can and have fun!
I enjoy the older style Hot Rods. They are rough around the edges and I really liked driving my old 31 coupe. I was wondering about the F-1 steering box and it being used on top of the rail? I do not recall seeing a above the rail steering except early Chevy and reversed Corvair. Is it a matter of building a plate to hold the box and weld to the rail? I also remember the old VW steering a very long time ago. Thanks for your videos!
I remember the channeled "east coast" style VERY well. Many 29-34 coupes. Also very popular , channeled P/U, 30 all the way thru 37. "Other" (non Ford) on occasion. All bad ass!,,,K,,,
A car just to go out and enjoy . I got a Harley from a guy who put the rear shocks all the way down . So when You hit a bump oh my a spine breaker . So I get the idea of what Your ride is like. Maybe calling it spine breaker would a better name .
I'd like to ask a question on the garage. Is your garage post and beam? And are those 4 inch thick planks? And is there open space below ? Or Are the planks on cemen thank you.
Well --- The East Coast are hip ---- I really dig those styles ------ But ------ the West Coast has the Sunshine --- and all the Girls get so Tanned ------- Thanks for the Video Matt ---- But -- I think I'm staying here on the West Coast ----- Good explanation of a East Coast Hot Rod ----- Rodney
I have often wondered if the channeled look started because of lower body rust. Great looking car that I would completely believe was built by a broke GI after WWII.
Not my favorite style because the roof is out of proportion whereas the chop with the mild channel looks proportional. But that’s why every car is not grey 😂😂
