There are a lot of "armchair experts" or "keyboard warriors" trolling RU-vid. People will tell you everything you're doing wrong and seldom offer a solution mostly because they have no clue what their talking about themselves. You do you, ignore all others. I have been watching your videos for the last couple of weeks and it is easy to see that you will be successful with RU-vid, not because of your work ethic , which is great, but your articulation, clarity, and common sense approach to life's challenges. With this, I will add a little advise from someone that has been dealing with an old house for many many years. Make your bathroom functional for now. Do not spend a lot of money or time. The reason being is that levelling the floors and correcting any shifting problem is paramount. You will likely have to redo the bathroom again when the floors are levelled. Things move and crack with levelling. Get the bones of the house and porch right, BEFORE doing any interior renovations.

Microphone is great. Be careful on that trencher. It's all fun and games until someone gets an eye put out. 😄IMO, the fence is a better option because shrubs/trees are expensive. You have the initial work of planting them, then you have to care for them, especially the first year or so. You have to plant them correctly, water them, fertilize them, prune them, etc. A fence doesn't need any/very little care after installation. But if you go with trees/shrubs, it's best to wait until fall to plant them. Or be prepared to care for them throughout the hot/possibly dry summer. Your videos are great, even when the auger bit gets stuck.

About your plants, I strongly suggest a thick hedge that will grow tall quickly for privacy but much more to help block the noise of the road down there. I don't know the local plants in Arkansas so I don't have a suggestion but if you can mostly block the noise the property is worth much more. If you put in PVC drain you still need to aim the holes down and cover the entire pipe with landscaping cloth to keep dirt and debris out of it. Bed it in sand and cover it with sand too, then layer gravel on top. The sand will act to protect it and work as a natural filter for the water. Also you can get a camera snake later on to look to see if it's clogging or collapsed anywhere. Put your fence as far from the house as you can. What is that cable? It can likely be moved.

Right now your best to do a few posts and beams under the house to help take pressure off the rock colums till you fix the foundation issues .A few hours every day one can get alot done . My 32 year old son did the same as you. Here in Maine, houses are EXTREMELY more expensive but he did it BEFORE the interest rate skyrocketed (2.7%!!). But alas, year one, new septic and leech field..(30G) and then well issues, (8G), and now he had a foundation failure with water infiltration. Thankfully, this is MY expertise so to speak and with a foundation repair, a basement dryout, and a reroute of his french drain, we have it under control. Last windstorm knocked down a few trees so he had an arborist come assess and there will be tree trimming soon. He unfortunately is not as skilled as you but he is learning as he goes and hires professionals when needed. Don't let the negative peeps get to you, their misery is apparent. You work a full time job AND do your own work. Just comnendable. As a Momma, I' ll be back with as many "atta boy's" as you deserve. For a year living in a self remodel. I had 2 bathrooms.... Tore one out first then left the toilet in the other bathrom. No electric for that first year as it was a complete gut. Moved the mechanical room.... Ac, electric, washer, drier, and now tankless water heater. Most of new main drain lines and feeds both hot and cold. For a long time the shower was old wood studs with plastic on the walls... 3x3 shower. Now the guest bathroom is almost complete only have floors to pour and base trim to put up. Polished concrete floors. And just today finished the bedroom good enough to move the bed into and the t.v. walls are moved rock wool in place, spray foam on the exterior walls drywall, and paint done... Will be putting in a 6 ft sliding door where the window is at. Media room....second bedroom.. Is also painted but still have the floor and base trim to do. Now I can work on the master closet... Rip out a garden Jacuzzi tub in there and put in shelving. Then the master shower... 8x8 ft with no roof but walls only with a hurricane door for an entry way... Then.I can do the vanity. After that half of the house is complete then the kitchen gets moved to where the living room is and turn the old kitchen into.an atrium. The Florida room will be the new living room with 8ft sliding glass doors. This house has taken me a total of 3 years to work on so far. But I had a major stroke a year ago so I had to take a break for a bit. But.at least my bed isn't in the living room still!!!

Hey Dalton, the new microphone was a big improvement, hopefully the failure can be resolved. Stumbles and headaches with a project are normal and frustrating, tomorrow is another day. Careful with your new backhoe, could really ruin your day, not mention your body. You might try a pipe wrench for the auger bit removal. Think the fence through, fence is expensive to install and ongoing maintenance, you don't build and walk away and problems like tree limbs crashing and smashing, Arborvitae here we come, just my opinion. The video update on the retaining wall is great, I marvel at the beautiful of the existing dry laid stone wall. The work which someone put into the construction and the mark that was left on your property.

Just ran across your videos this morning. I recently built a RR tie retaining wall as well for our parking area. I'd suggest getting a Hercules auger bit and a 9 amp drill at Harbor Freight for drilling the holes for rebar. I was struggling with more expensive auger bits - and took a chance and got the Hercules and never had to buy another one. A 9 amp drill also was enough power to get thru the RR ties. I used structural screws as well - and didn't have issues once I got a larger drill. I'll definitely subscribe to see how your projects turn out. Good Luck!

I'm sure you've discovered RR ties are a pain. They will dull a chainsaw in one cut. Creosote is like cutting iron. I'm digging that trencher. Even if it's slow it's saving back breaking shoveling. I don't think the flex pipes will crush because the deadmen ties will protect them. Plus you don't want to drive too close to the edge. I was thinking the same one section at a time for the foundation as well. You can only do so much at a time being one man. Having the center high, bringing each area up to match sounds more straight forward to me but then I've never done it. I'm liking that red/white Ford, I had one just like it. If that other truck is a Nissan, I've had one of those too. Very handy size. Not that you don't have enough on your plate, but if that side hill faces south, maybe terracing and making it a garden is an idea. I don't know if thats practical or not. Another great video, lots of ideas. I like that.

hey, quick question. Is the dirt behind the wall loose. I'd suggest you buy a jumping jack compactor you going to need it. And do the compaction in lifts of evey 4 inches or so. The dirt looks wet enough so no need to add water unlike here in az. You will definitely need it because you have so many settling issues and the wall is going to be as strong as the dirt behind it is stable. Another thing is what kind of dirt you have there. Decomposed granite or generally none organic dirt. You want to work in layers and compact so hard that it looks like water will just run off instead of break it and stoften it As far as the view from storage units below, the point of view matters so even a short fence should block their view from below. But if you trying to block your own view towards the storage facility then it will need to be atleast 6ft

Mic is great and it's true, gives better freedom for videos. My dad was pretty much self taught and as about a 26 or 27 year old worked a full time job and after work went to the build site, had only a hand saw and no electricity so sawed the boards using the headlights of his car. Brick house with bedrooms up in the eaves if i remember correctly. My brother was taught initially by our dad and then self taught and is a contractor. You are exceedingly skilled and knowledgeable and don't listen to nay sayers! 😅

I would plant a privacy hedge right next to lower retaining wall so you don’t loose any use of your property. EVERGREEN TREES Emerald Green Arborvitae

Angle grinder.... vertically... adjacent to stuck bit... relieve tension.... wiggle.... and pull out. Afterwards sharpen your bits ... press less... try to let the bit do the work.

If the drillbit is threw both railroad ties I would just cut it flush it would make it more secure I assume 😊

Sometimes buying cheap means throwing away good money (Dangerous) Than spending a bit of time hunting for quality second hand. You don't have to do it all at once. Now pour some oil down that auger and try again tomorrow.

I do love to see your videos and what you are up to with the house. Its all good. Mic is good. etc etc,Sorry to hear about the mishap,, wow, maybe this machine is not the one for you?? So,, about the fence,, I think I would vote for putting it on the upper wall.. so then maybe wouldnt need to make it quite as tall.. bc its already up higher.

Mic is great! Lot better. Yes I built a long railroad tie wall at my house and used the 8-10’ deadman and they never moved. Good plan. Be careful inside, looks like your floors are out of level and if you do any new wallboard or tile work you’ll get cracks if you level later. Can you just jack floors and shim up first to do remodel and then when you do foundation work you be close enough so it won’t affect the walls! Just a thought! 👍👍

Thats encouraging to hear! Yeah that is my concern about the new interior work thats why I’m saying i plan to replace the foundation walls in the bathroom at the same time as the remodel

@@marchingmoto Dalton before I retired I hired a lot of people you have no idea how nice it is to see someone your age with a clue how to do it and the ambition to get it done. I appreciate you taking the time to explain what your plan is! Awesome job! 👍👍👍👍

First of all a huge congratulations on your channel growth! Secondly I have built many retaining walls out of railroad ties, and don't feel bad about your chainsaw. You should sharpen your saw about every third or fourth cut. Railroad ties are full of little pieces of gravel that really really dull the chain.

Do what you think is best as to where you put your fence, if that's what you decide you want to do, you know your property much better then any of us, start yourself a fence fund 😊 maybe people will help here and there..

i think a nice fence with easyy to maintain plants like ivy thatll grow overtime and cover alot of the fence would be a great idea. speaking of ideas,it might not be a terrible idea to open up a patreon for those who wanna support

Don't give up on landscaping but do both, build a wall too. But go small, like 1/2 gallon potted plants (bushes and trees). They will grow. Don't spend a lot on big 5 gallon specimens - they are not cost effective. You'll be taking out the mower anyway. Mid-as-well mow the slope too.

If I was you I would use the lower sloped part to grow some vegetables etc. being more self sufficient in this day and age is always a good thing, and the soil seems to be pretty fertile there 😊 I would say a fence if you plan to use the area and bushes if not 😊

My Dad, Uncle and a few of their friends rebuilt our entire foundation on our first home when I was just a kid about 7 yo, it was a hellava undertaking but it was a must!! plus he wanted a full basement. raised the house and re cinder blocked the whole thing, I'm 63 now I'm talking years ago and raised our home by about 6' all while we were living in it. no small undertaking jacks and temporary stairs everywhere. from what I remember it took an entire summer to finish it off, you are doing this by yourself so be careful ! but the house was beautiful by 2 summers later. paid $15.000 for it and we sold it in 1980 for well over $200.000 great investment

At 8:42 dont know if this would be an option, but i would be tempted to take those flat rocks (from wall) behind you and pile them up on far side of retaining wall for extra support. Just my 2 cents..
