You know the old saying, “Sticks and stones may brake my bones but words can never harm Me”. I use a pipe wrench on stuck bits,most times it works. Have to learn to pull out more often . Sometimes a lag screw is superior to a ribar pin. You have a good attitude when times get tough. A SDS hammer drill can be made to drive ribar pins. This wall wont go any wear,when tamping material add a bit of water to make it tighter. Keep up the awesome work.

Some people have no life. They have nothing meaningful going on in their life so they project their misery on to others. I work with a bunch of ppl like that. I actually appreciate them tho, keeps me grounded and gives me the opportunity to show my kids the kind of person they will become if they obsess over misery and negativity.

I do want to keep watching your remodeling the new house and doing things needed done on the land, of course 😊 but some time it would be nice to take a ride around your home town or go to lunch with you, just different stuff in-between remodeling... just some different ideas 🙃
My quick tip to get that auger out is to take a chisel and pound it into the end of that timber to create space to expand around the auger. Then use the drill to unwind it.
My grandfather used to build a lot of stuff with wood and often used big screws to assemble pieces . I remember that he always used a big chunk of bees wax on the threads of the screws . It is all natural and made driving the screws easier . Maybe it will help with drilling the holes .
You are a thinker, a planner, steady, careful and thought through, it shows, Dalton. That future tractor would be great for moving the RR ties and your back would approve. Great video Dalton! I have worked with old railroad ties myself and found that a 10”-12” twist drill worked best for me. Just have to keep pulling it out and clear the bit a few times. It’s tough wood for sure. Great job!👍👍 I agree with you about angry people. Don’t get it. If you don’t like the content then don’t watch. I have one to build soon, one project at a time, been building our house from the ground up. The only thing my wife and I haven't done is the steel on the roof. Keep chipping away at it.
Hey Dalton.... Please check your first deadman, the one you had to cut off the bit. I don't remember seeing you drill another hole on that end to have two rebarb pins to hold it in place. I tried looking to see, but couldn't make out another pin mark. I just don't want you to build a great retaining wall and have a weak point.
well that auger bit is something else... had them break on me but never had that problem of getting stuck... maybe try some lighter fluid down in the hole and light the wood in the hole on fire to char it some and then maybe backing the bit back out if it ever happens again (the bit probably costs more than the railroad tie)....p.s. if i (a 63 year old man) can move 16 ton of quarter inch gravel with a shovel and wheelbarrow in one day then you can and if i can cut down and move a 20 foot (12 inch diameter) log and mill it without a tractor then you can too... buy tools and equipment if you use them for jobs ... not to do one or two things around the house cause then they're toys... here's my grandpa's words "chrome don't put food on the table" and "if you want to get something done then you got to get behind the mule"

Though sometimes I think it's a lost cause or a money pit, but I am very often wrong. Waiting for a head cam on the dirt bike! In my younger days I had a Suzuki 250 RM or RX, don't remember now. Lol. You need a 4 wheeler. They’ll drag them ties and you can get a small trailer/cart on it. Even if you wanted to sell it afterwards you could probably get a lot done quickly for pretty cheap.

I bought a chainsaw blade sharpener from harber freight for around $25 and it works really well. I would say it makes the edge just about as good as new. The only downside is unlike your file it needs electricity and it needs to be mounted.
@@marchingmoto I used mine 3 or 4 times last year because my pecan tree kept dropping limbs all the time and that is some seriously hard wood. Based on what places charge to sharpen a blade it paid for itself and was saving me money on the second use.
That's hard work in the heat. If you have a good tool rental place, consider grabbing a 16" electric beam saw for a half-day and cutting all your deadmen pieces. Best of luck.
I'll be interested to see how well the screws work. I'm suspecting they will bind up just as badly as the auger. There just isn't any good way to cut or drill railroad ties. I'm right there with you with wishing I had a good tractor. One with a backhoe and a bucket on the front would be so useful. I like your financial sense. Dave Ramsey has good thoughts about debt. Avoid it at all costs, and you will be amazed how fast the money piles up.
I stumbled across your video as a DIY type of project and I believe you've been telling people this is your first time doing this.... you're learning and you talk about repairing stuff The world right now thinks everything is replaced and trash but you have people like me and you that have the do it yourself attitude where you want to repair anything and everything that you have available to you.... Using the experience that you have.... Keep your chin up keep moving forward do the best you can do.... the way I've always felt is you don't quit learning until you turn your toes up permanently

That’s going to be a solid retaining wall, I think the process of building it you’ll have some errors along the way, but you’re doing an amazing job! And I also use zip ties for a ton of things, they come in handy.
