I have a similar video, that I watched 12 years ago on my bigger brothers nokia. I will never forget it. It’s called „DC‘s it“, a snowboarding edit for all DC Snowboarding pros at that time. It’s a whole vibe and it’s physically impossible to be sad while watching it. There are truly some childhood gems on RU-vid
"And on one test road there same time they were doing a formula one race and it was exactly same length than this formula one race where we were testing on the gravel road and we were just four seconds slower than their lap time so we said it's really going fast."
default1976 : I think Hannu is referring to the test that Lancia did at Estoril a week before the Portuguese F1 GP. The story goes that Henri Toivonen took out Tyrell F1 driver Jonathan Palmer for a quick lap in his Delta S4, and in doing so set a time that would have seen him 10th in the grid for the following weeks F1 race.
I'm just glad I was able to see for real these legends before they were out of retirement! You can't forget them! The engines' noises, the vibrations the unique shapes...
Group B rally, 80-90's DTM and Group C Lemans... are the greatest racing championship ever... awesome machines, real cars for real men with fucking big balls!...
Motorsports in general were at their best in the 80s. F1, rally, endurance racing, touring car and oval racing all had their craziest up to that point, and even though the speeds and lap times are just as if not better then back in 80s...you can't really "feel" it (as a spectator at least).
Raptowny Its gotta be the quattro S1, revolutionary piece of kit, that was the beginning of the end for two wheel drives in WRC, and ultimately even though their car was so much further advanced in comparison to the likes of the 205 and the RS200, audi ultimately took the blame for the death of Group B, because the other teams were playing catch up in regards to the vehicles so much they kept taking risks, also combined with the lack of proper safety regulations (crowd control mainly). if simple changes such as making sure the crowd were out of the way of the car, like they do today, the big RS200 crash would never have happened, that was purely the crowds fault for getting in the way of a 500bhp ford doing roughly 85/90mph on dirt right before a tight corner, if proper crowd control measures were involved, the collateral damage would have been minimal.. but it was sadly too late to save these beautiful works of art from the crusher, and saved from being banished from rally
@@1999Almaz lancia had a good car in both the 037 and the delta S4, BUT they relied on underhand tactics to try and gain an advantage over competitors, like on the rallies where dust was a big issue, they would distract the Marshall pretending there was an issue with the car for just long enough to let the dust settle a bit, thus having a clearer run to try and get a faster time, admitted the 037 was a magnificent machine with it being the first car implementing both a turbo and a supercharger (twincharged) but the quattro system marked the beginning of the end for top end WRC cars being 2wd, now 2wd have separate categories and the main group A is always AWD cars. But there is no disagreements that these drivers were truly skilled people, no electronic aids in a 500+bhp car relying on a purely mechanical machine, granted there are some talented drivers today but in comparison I don't think the drivers who compete today would be able to match a time in a group B car that the drivers of the time set, maybe time will tell if the FIA will Bring back these weapons in some form or another that isn't restricted to rallyX or time attack up pikes peak.
@@lambokid20 I agree. None of the current pilots will not be able to repeat the success of Röhrl or Mouton (for example). The current rally is just a circus without animals. And yet I think that the Quattro S1 was a great car, but it still lost the rear-wheel drive 037 (yes Lancia used a trick, but after all, Audi did not honestly enter the all-wheel drive in the rally). And this is the first and only victory in history.
That one clip @2:26 to 2:33 just perfectly sums up Groupe B. The insane speed, the ferocious sound, the armful of opposite lock using up every last mm of road, and the spectator totally shocked by what he has just witnessed.
Watched this video many times.Emotions are unbelievable.Every time i'm watching it,i'm close to tears.Such an amazing tribute video to great era of rally.True masterpiece.
What times!!!!!, I don't know who did it, but my congratulations to the owner, the best video EVER !!!!, what memories!!!! Rally is the most wonderful motorsport ever. Genius!!!
Joost, I first saw this video what must be 10 years ago before it got pulled from RU-vid, then you emailed me the link to the MegaUpload version, (thank you). Even after all this time, I think this is still the best video ever on RU-vid.
I've honestly watched this video more times than I could count. This is the only car video I like with music. Every time I watch this video, the hair on my arms and legs stand up on end. Its such a chilling thing to watch. However, at the same time, my eyes get watery. Not because of how awesome it is, but rather due to the fact we will never see such cars and such talent like this again, across all motorsports. Group B is the pinnacle of all automobile racing.
@@boomyoulookingforthis1362 Yeah its the same with Formula 1, they advance in different things and get quicker despite weight. When you look at audis s1 it looks hard to turn into corners. If you'd drop a modern chassis into its body and tweak the aero, give the group b engine fresh turbos and variable valve timing and other things it would blow away new cars but thats a new car altogether too :)
Whenever i have to explain group b to someone who is too young to remember i use this video. . . and pick up their jaws up afterwards. Thank you for a great Group B post, the best on the tube.
wow, I thought that this was one of the best youtube videos I have seen. I like how you stuck to themes, like the last clips all had sound and stuff. Great job!
This was the first video I had ever watched on RU-vid and have came back to watch it again and again but was shattered when I realized that it was taken off. Thanks for getting it back up because this video gives me spine tingles. Along with "climb dance" with Ari vartenen this is one of the best rally videos I have ever seen. Thanks very much
The best cars and pilots ever! No words for this true show of motorsports. I love the sound of the engines of these top machines. I will never forget the Group B rally. Greetings from Portugal to all the fans of the most exciting rally ever made. :)
Hannu Mikkola, Walter Rohl, Timo Salennen, Penti Arrkikola, Marku Alen, Stig Blomquist, Tony Pond and the likes were a breed apart.....500bhp+ made Rallying what it is today. I wish that these "Beasts" were competing in todays WRC...Subaru and Mitsubishi would be eating dust....no way could they compete!!! AWESOME VID....BY FAR THE BEST ON RU-vid!!!!!
This is one of the best Group B Tribute movies there is on youtube the music was perfekt for this. I love this song The Unforgiven Group B will allways be unforgiven rally class
That is unbeleivable footage, sends a shiver down my spine. . Proper drivers, proper machines. . Happy childhood memories on my dads shoulders in the crowds.
sound, the cars, the kick, the fear, that feeling of death in your head, the pain of the stones flying at you from the kick of the car, the power, the speed, the highs, the lows and the jumps, this is rally. this is true motorsport, be there once, never forget it, be there 100 times and youll remember them all. R.I.P those who died watching, racing, enjoying this moment between man and machine. for those reading this, enjoy the sport:) and please never miss a chance to see it live:)
Over a decade later this video is still my favourite car video, period. I saw in on liveleak in the mid to late 00s and nothing captures the sport of racing better than this one IMO. Today with less muppets standing on the side of the track and better safety, group B needs to return. It would bring so much new attention back to rallying. When I show these videos to kids of today they are amazed and have seen nothing like it. I don't care for modern WRC, more the smaller stuff that is done locally in our own countries. Group B would get me watching again...

If you want the sounds of the car only, I suggest you take a look at my other videos Shatnersbassoon. Be aware, most of the footage is from documentary's with a voice-over. Wouldn't be nice to leave that in don't you think. IMO, certain music makes the video even more special and intresting. Both for creator and viewer.
Would love to compare stage times with a current WRC car to see the difference. GroupB was real rallying, no paddle shift no electronic diffs, just pure skill and bravery. Hats of to all drivers of the GroupB era.
I am only 17 and I am a fan of those cars since 15 years old!!!! The first time I saw them was in the discovery channel and I became fan of them in that moment! And I love pikes peak too!!
Many Thanks for getting this back up Josti. I really missed it while it was gone. It's my favourtie youtube video. It really pulls at my heartstrings watching this video to think that of the men that died doing what they loved and to think that these days will never return. To anyone who loves Loeb and co. in the WRC, please remember that these guys were the true groundbreakers; the true rally heroes. Many Thanks
These guys were nuts, so are all rally car guys in general. I could never drive like that around corners that have a cliff on the other side. Rock on you're awesomely crazy.
these drivers are gods. the engineers of these monsters are gods. the best period of the rallies i think. i am 23 and i have never seen these cars live.
exactly. röhrl is the best rally driver that has ever driven a rally car, and made standards for the next generation of drivers, especially including intense physical training that wasn't considered very important in those days. he was the king of group B and rallying in general.
When the Quattro rounds the corner at .037 in concert with drumm beat,is incredible.man, to have been there to experience that. You've done an awesome job!
