For splitting into Bible study groups, we had the problem of lots of outgoing, talkative people going to one group and lots of quiet people to another. To encourage a mix of introverts and extroverts in every group, we had to come up with a way to split people based on personality without them knowing it. So, we now ask a question which has two options, one of which is more extroverted and the other is more introverted, for instance, Netflix vs. a night at the movies with friends. Then I count off the Netflix people to split up the introverts, then count off movie people to split up the extroverts, then I count off the people who did nothing to split up the people who don't want to be there!
