This video details the steps to be followed in order to construct a Grouped Frequency Distribution from a Raw Data Set. The details four instructive steps.
Please note a small error, although this does not take away from the conceptual idea. The class interval is calculated as (76/6) when it should be (72/6).

I'm thinking that for 2k you double then square, double then square as these aren't a continuous set of squared numbers in the column.
@MathsAndStats
@MathsAndStats 4 года назад
Hi Mark, The 2^k rule is not asking you to square, it is asking you to exponentiate (a complicated word for calculating powers). For example: 2^1 = 2 2^2 = 2*2 = 4 2^3 = 2*2*2 = 8 2^4 = 2*2*2*2 = 16 Yes, you are effectively doubling the previous 2^k value. Regards. Jonathan.

Sir, if n=19 then k rule is not right why.....?
@MathsAndStats
@MathsAndStats 4 года назад
k | 2^k 1 | 2^1 = 2 2 | 2^2 = 4 3 | 2^3 = 8 4 | 2^4 = 16 5 | 2^5 = 32 So Anees, for a sample size of 19 observations you would need to have 5 classes, because; when k = 5, 2^5 = 32 is the first to exceed the sample size of n =19. I hope this helps.

Why 1 to the power of 2 is equal to 2? And 3 to the power of 2 is equal to 8? It should be 1 and 9 . Correct me if im wrong.
@MathsAndStats
@MathsAndStats 5 лет назад
Hi Laptrip, Yes, you seem to be a little confused about the concept of exponentiation. Let me try to help: First: you mention 1 to the power of 2 - this should have been read as 2 to the power of 1. Second: you mention 3 to the power of 2 - this should be read as 2 to the power of 3. Remember - powers are just shorthand for multiplication. 2 to the power of 3 = (2)(2)(2) = 8 2 to the power of 4 = (2)(2)(2)(2) = 16 3 to the power of 2 = (3)(3) = 9 3 to the power of 3 = (3)(3)(3) = 27 What you mentioned was: 1 to the power of 2 = (1)(1) = 1 3 to the power of 2 = (3)(3) = 9. I hope this helps. Regards Jonathan

please solve thisdifficult question 7. Following table shows the scores obtained bystudents of nutrition: 60 94 75 82 72 57 92 75 85 77 91 72 85 64 78 75 62 49 70 94 72 84 55 90 88 81 64 91 79 66 68 67 74 45 76 73 68 85 73 83 85 71 87 57 82 78 68 70 71 78 69 98 65 61 83 84 69 77 81 87 79 64 72 55 76 68 93 56 67 71 83 72 82 78 62 82 49 63 73 89 78 81 93 72 76 73 90 76 For the scores present above: a) Construct a frequencydistribution of grouped scores having approximately15 intervals. List both apparent and real limits of each interval. b) By using frequency distribution, computed in part (a), determine 40th percentile; P40. c) Also, calculate percentile rank of a score 41&76.

I thought classes were not supposed to overlap
@MathsAndStats
@MathsAndStats 7 лет назад
Hi Daniel, you are correct; all classes should be mutually exclusive and an observation should fall into only one specified class. With that said, our classes are inclusive of the lower bound and exclusive of the upper bound, probably more appropriate for a pure continuous variable rather than a discrete variable. The main point thou, the frequency distribution is purely descriptive in nature and should always be accompanied by a clear key indicating if the classes are based off half closed half open intervals [ , ) as opposed to fully closed intervals [ , ]. thanks again for your comments. Kindest Regards. Jonathan
