Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!
First day of the 3rd Quarter and it was a beautiful day to fly! Most of the work was concentrated on the south end extension area, the east and north sides of the casting machine section of the main factory and the Boring Company tunneling site on the west side of the highway.
Timestamps:
Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 2:27
Drone flight footage & infographics: 2:43 to 27:38
In the video introduction, I provide some news and updates on the Cybertruck, particularly the Gray interior, when production of that interior began, a video of a customer delivered gray interior Cybertruck, updates on the Foundation Series production and delivery plans for Tesla (which have recently changed) and more!
On the south end, crews continue to work on the cooling plant on the southeast side, with more exterior cladding installed, work on the ground level machinery and electronics, trenching for the large underground water pipes that will provide the coolant for the plant, and additional work to complete this structure.
On the south side, crews have drained water out of the three underground tunnels and seem to be preparing rebar for the pile caps on top of the tunnel ramps with the screw-type piers. window installation crews were busy near the southwest angled corner installing trim pieces to finish out the glass installation while on the roof, crews were busy installing more insulation on the roof segment above the supercomputer cluster area. This roofing is noticeably of different materials and installation as compared to the rest of the Giga Texas roofing materials and weatherproof membranes.
On the east side of the casting machine section of the main factory, we see crews working on the slab mounts for tanks and equipment on the south side of the steel assembly and on four formed sections for concrete walls on the north end. Further north, crews were buys trenching in the dirt section where storm water pipes and concrete vaults were being installed. concrete forms and rebar have been placed around the south slab to complete the concrete apron.

Thanks Joe 10:06. Cathode, east. Apron. Truck load of 7 identical grey cabinets. Part of a cathode production line perhaps. 10:42. Cathode, east. Apron. Yellow equipment at the corner. Pumps, filters, compressors perhaps. 12:02. Windtunnel. Green generator is gone. Against the fence in dark green are a pair of what might be electrical cabinets. 2 new small concrete pads closer to the windtunnel. Permanent electrical supply. 12:26. Old EOL staging yard. Some private vehicles in amongst these. Reflective windshield sunscreens, a white wrapped Cybertruck, what might be a Model S with chrome trim. 13:12. Southend, east pond. Open end of pipe in the top right corner would be for monitoring for any seepage under the pond liner. A way of checking for leaks in the liner. Black plastic placed on top of the berm. Unloading location for tankers. Was an identical arrangement at the now demolished evaporation pond. 16:02. Southend, roof. Additional layers of insulation boards being placed over a black material. Felt perhaps. No indication of fixing, adhesive or mechanical of the insulation boards. Top layer is a heavier material, as seen be the effort required to push the trolleys at 19:10. Gravity might still not be enough to hold the top layer in place. More work coming. 17:55. Southend, Cooling Tower. Backfilled the deep excavation under the platform. Change of plans. 18:46. Southend, south. Fire escape passages. Rebar for the walls is on the ground to the left, laying on its side. 21:02. Westside, old contractor parking lot. TBM welded on lifting lugs. Probably nothing more practical than this. Any recessed lifting points would lessen the amount of space within the TBM, where space is already at a premium. 21:29. Westside, storage. Lower half. Speculating all this gear is for the baghouse. 24:29. Westside, Tunnel Project. Grout batch plant dismantling. 26:08. Westside, Tunnel Project. Road decks to the left are rough compared to the liner rings on the right. The road decks were being formed up in simple timber forms at Bastrop. Referring to the mating surfaces, not the deck that will be asphalt topped.

Hey Joe, I recently was in Bastrop Boring Co. and discovered Starlink has a lot of equipment leveling the land for building 2 which is going to be just like building 1. It's rumored to be the new manufacturing site for the model 5 antenna. There is reportedly going to be 7 buildings in a row on that side of the road. Also, the really big news is the new slab being poured next to the Boring Bodega. This is rumored to be the new X (formally Twitter) building. Supposedly it will house 600 employees. Unknown if this will be global headquarters or a regional office. When you look at the slab it appears this will be at least a 3-story building. Looking forward to your next video of Bastrop and thank you for all the excellent reporting. You're the best!

Thanks Joe! Rooftop cable trays: @ 16:33 Excellent close view of the south end termination. Where the medium voltage (MV) cables @ 24.9 kV will go through ducts in the roof of the data center. The purpose of the approximate 4,200 foot (as measured on Google Earth) double stacked cable tray run is obvious. 😊 @ 4:56 (bottom left) Joe accidentally just missed one of the north end cable tray termination points about 75 feet back to the south. Where some cables are diverted off the cable tray run to go through ducts in the roof, likely on their way to the existing main switchgear room. Also the point where the existing main power duct-banks enter the building. @ 5:06 (Top left) You can see the north end of the cable tray run. Where power will be picked up from the new duct-banks being constructed. So to conclude... The south end of the cable tray run ends at the data center. However, the north end has two end points. The north end o BIW, and the north end of casting. Both areas where power is entering the building, and will be entering the building. Fiber optics: @ 19:52 Joe... If you have time... Any chance you can take a peek on the other side of the river to see if they are laying orange fiber optic conduit over there? Just a guess that they are going to do a HDD bore under the river.
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn 3 месяца назад
@ 16:33 Just want to add that there could be as many as 72 cables going through those 4 cable ducts in the data center roof. That is.... If all new power (24 three-phase circuits) from the new duct-banks being constructed on the north end is sent to the south end. Even more cables if additional power is diverted from the existing main switchgear room.

@DavidJohnson-tv2nn
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn 3 месяца назад
@@benguthrie49 Agree. Fiber is coming from the north and I'm speculating that it will come from the south as well, via an HDD bore under the river. What I'm surprised about is what appears to be vulnerabilities in electrical power supply. Yes, there are two duct-banks, and two cable trays bringing in power. But there is lack of physical separation. @ 16:33 you can see how close the cable trays are to each other. Unless they are counting only on UPS units and backup generators?

The cables running atop the new cyber factory are actually part of an innovative salmon transit system. For sure all that excavation on north side went to megapacks. Need uninterrupted power to data center. Reboot would be a nightmare.
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn 3 месяца назад
@@franklinmargolis2051 Correct that they need uninterrupted power at the data center. However, that will come from UPS units and likely backup diesel generators as well, located in the data center. Why? The Megapacks are not set up to provide the necessary power, or do it quick enough. Plus they are too far away for reliability. For example, if anything were to happen between the Megapacks and the data center, the Megapacks would be unable to provide power. The new duct-banks being constructed on the northside connect to the substation via Mega-vault. Which can be seen on Joe's 4/12/24 video at the 23: 54 timestamp (Bottom right).

Not yet frosted but a lot seems to be going on inside. And for some time now.. There is speculation about Cathode going to produce a completely different chemistry (Lithium-Iron_Phosphor - LFP). The original announcement was for high-Nickel (NMC-) chemistries. For the latter I understand there is a benefit for the final calcining step to take place in an Oxygen-enriched atmosphere - hence the LOX storage vessels and vaporizers. But LFP chemistries may use Lithiumcarbonate and/or Phosphate precursors and then there is no need to add Oxygen during final calcining. Maybe all the (early-) work that has been taking place inside Cathode (and completely hidden from the outside world, cheeky, cheeky!!) was to build a new type of production line for LFP cathode material, next to the initial NMC production line(s). The building seems large enough anyway to add and/or modify - for whatever meets the latest developments in battery cell tech. That would explain why there was no hurry at all to supply LOX.
@hardernl8893

this would also tally with the information that CATL production equipment has been acquired - CATL being the main producer of LFP tech.
