Did you know that you can grow POLE BEANS over 15ft tall? Yes you can, and I will show you how in this episode of "Growing Organic". I highly recommend you try growing these 'Kentucky Wonder' pole beans. You will follow along the entire grow cycle over (2) month span. These are a great survival food as well, because the are an excellent source of protein, vitamin and minerals. These are organically grown right here in a small growing space in my backyard. This variety of pole bean is great for my USDA growing zone here in San Diego zone 10b by the Pacific Ocean. This variety is fairly pest resistant, high yield and grows tall vertically which saves you space in your garden. Vertical growing is crucial if you live in an urban environment in the middle of the city surrounded by apartment buildings and small backyards. Be sure to watch my video on "Making a Supersoil Mix". This is the soil mix I used to grow these pole beans.

If they get too tall, if u clip the "leader" off, they might send out side shoots, & u won't have to reach so high & the harvest might be greater.

I am new to gardening and also live in San Diego in Bay Park area. What I am enjoying is seeing what your growing since our climates are the same. I am just learning how many different names, kinds, or types there are for just one vegetable. I am growing vegetables in containers and appreciate your videos in helping new gardeners learn from your experience. I think it's great how people can grow food even in an urban city without much land.

That is great I am glad it is helping you out since we are in the same climate zone. With containers all you need is a good sunny spot.

Hello Myriampedersen, I grew up in Bay Park across from Tecolote Canyon Georgetown and Cross St. I moved out when I got married in 1980. How did you do growing the Beans. I purchased a bag of seeds but it's a little too late to plant. Next Season. I attended Marston and Clairemont High class of 1969. I also grow Avacado's here in South Mission Hills and love gardening. Good Luck

Excellent video. I can’t believe you had this much success with 5 gallon grow bags! With three plants in each no less. Thank you for seeing us through to the harvest. So many people start videos like this and never show the end result. You transplanted these in to the grow bags right?
@GrowingOrganicTvShow
@GrowingOrganicTvShow 3 года назад
Yes I bought them in the small 4" containers at the nursery if I remember correctly. I used my supersoil mix (see video) It must have like the soil mix I used. Also, plenty of good filtered water. Never let it dry up. The grow bags dry fast especially this small.

I just planted pole beans for the first time this year(I've always planted bush beans) I can't believe how well they grow, I have to go purchase more bamboo poles to add on. I love them!! 👩🏽‍🌾🧡💚

Yeah I had bad luck with the bush beans. These pole beans are way more productive. yeah bamboo are great for that. I forgot to plant beans this year. Thanks for reminding me.

Next time you should trellis your beans over an arch, but looks great! I just started some of these pole beans from seeds and after watching your video I'm going to trellis my plants using some ladder mesh wire you can buy at home depot in the concrete building section.

Thanks, Yes that would be a good way to use space if you have it. I am kind of limited on space. Ya get creative and see what works with what you have around.

The grow bags stay cooler on the dirt than on top of concrete because concrete retains heat a lot better than soil does. That's why they like it better setting on the soil.

Yes exactly and they make contact with the earth and electromagnetic energy helps probably

Wow! Congrats on those. I never knew you could put three plants in a 5 gal bucket AND put carrots in there also. Good use of space. I will be checking out your soil mix bc mine are suffering some pest (bush beans) and lighter green leaves this year. New subscriber for sure!

Thanks Linda, Yeah I just experiment and pack plants in because I have minimal space. I try to be creative. Yeah I also tried the bush beans but had better success with the pole beans. Maybe my soil mix had some to do with it. They grew well.

Run several lines of rope from container to the wooden fence . This will give much more surface to vine and keep them lower and easier to harvest.

Try putting a banana peel at the bottom of each pot, or other kitchen scraps, & some "fishing" worms. The worms will eat the scraps, & fertilize the plant. Also, shredded brown packing paper & shredded cardboard shipping boxes, make great mulch.

the leaves on my pole beans are going yellow, then brown and crispy - any ideas how to fix it?
@GrowingOrganicTvShow
@GrowingOrganicTvShow 3 года назад
Check you are watering enough, also some nitrogen fertilizer like fish emulsion, sometimes they start dying back they will start drying up. Possible your soil could not have enough organic material. Many possibilities.
@Nimbleful
@Nimbleful 3 года назад
@@GrowingOrganicTvShow Someone told me the yellowing was too much watering so I stopped watering and it seemed to get worse. I'll try fertilizing and keeping on top of the watering - thanks so much for the help ^_^

Dark green means the beans are getting enough nitrogen. light green means the beans need more nitrogen
@GrowingOrganicTvShow
@GrowingOrganicTvShow Год назад

@MarkSmith-qk2rl
@MarkSmith-qk2rl Год назад
The legumes produce their own nitrogen ! Upon planting them you should give them a little extra potash and phosphorus ! I supplement with bone meal and fire ash that hasn’t gotten wet ! Thats all you need to do. Do not feed nitrogen or you won’t make beans ! You will have beans throughout the summer if yo keep them picked. If you let them over ripen they will quit producing ! Good luck

Good question. It actually worked out just fine in the smaller containers. Beans are short lived plants overall. The nutrients was good apparently using my Supersoil mix (watch that video)

@@GrowingOrganicTvShow My starter beans were given to me 10 years ago. I grew them for 3 years in the same small place, adding a little potting soil each year. Production the 3rd year wasn't so good, so for that reason and others, I didn't grow any for 7 years (2015 was the last year). This year I took those 7 year old beans out of the refrigerator and planted them in new topsoil mixed with bags of mushroom compost & Miracle Grow garden soil, and they sprouted! I'm not a gardener by any means, so I just water them and occasionally mix a little miracle grow plant food on them, and here are the results. Actually, I think they would do just fine in topsoil. The ones that are in the containers have the same problem as yours; their leaves are a lighter shade of green. I usually pick at least once a day to harvest them at their prime. If they get too big, they develop a string. Sometime I'll let them go and shell out the bean, which is also good, but you lose a lot of bean. I'm growing them on the east side of my house, so I'd say they're doing pretty good considering they only get sun in the morning. I'm located in eastern North Carolina, and if you lived around here I'd be happy to give you some starter stock. Here's what they look like now if you'd like to see. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLNRYAFmFVo.html

From a 12 foot ladder. haha. Well actually I can stand on a 6 ft ladder and reach 6 ft. 8 ft ladder is best. Living in a small city space I have not much options but to go up high.

Sure you can but only for about a few months because once cardboard is wet it can fall apart with pressure. Try to double it up.

Yahshua - you know Him as Jesus - was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, calmed the storm, and fed a crowd of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, among many other things. He was killed on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus/God. Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came in the flesh to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name! Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. - Matthew 26:6-13
