Very nice Jerra, love the earrings! We grow beans mostly for the developed beans inside and not the pod. They are great for storing over the year and using for soups, stews and if you use plant based cooking they can be great for baking etc. I did grow some nice bush beans this year too and found one much better than the others I trialed, they were Modesto, Hidalgo wasn't bad either. We live in the Scottish Borders so we only have the spring and summer to grow, by the end I'm praying for not so much rain so my pods can finish swelling!

I grew French beans for the first time this summer. It's my favourite veg and I was so happy with the results. So many beans with very little work. The variety I grew was called "Cobra" which is a pretty popular variety in the UK due to it being so prolific. Next year I plan on growing those again and I'd also like to grow a yellow variety of French beans as I think the two varieties will look great on the plate. Nice video and great earrings.

@@JerrasGarden On the Red Garden's channel (based in Ireland) the guy did a whole lot of French bean testing and his most productive was a variety called "Emerite" which he showed to be even more productive than "Cobra". Unfortunately nowhere stocks Emerite seeds in the UK. I think the seeds were given to Red Gardens from someone in the USA. So you could probably get hold of those. I'd try Emerite if I could but for now I'll have to stick with Cobra. Which I'm OK with as Cobra gave me more beans than I could use anyway.
@marymcandrew7667
@marymcandrew7667 9 месяцев назад
Hi, I live in the Scottish Borders and have tried Cobra this year. I was trying to grow them for the black beans inside but only a few really got that developed. I was so disappointed but with what you said maybe I should just grow them as green beans?
@nitelite78
@nitelite78 9 месяцев назад
@@marymcandrew7667 Not sure how good a harvest you would get for the black beans with Cobra. Haven't tried. To me they are a bean for eating green. I have saved a few fully formed dried pods purely for using for growing next year but this was just an afterthought as I still have loads of the seeds in the packet I bought. I'm not sure how much in total weight I got but about 12 plants has given enough beans for a family of 3 for 3 months. I also gave quite a lot away to family and and friends. Next year I will probably grow a few extra plants purely for seed so I don't have to buy any more.

Neem oil is best used in the morning, not in the heat of the day. In my zone 10, in the AZ dessert, our water has a lot of salt in it. I learned beans hate the salt so I try to use rainwater or RO water. It's a hassle for just a few beans.

A good productive bush green bean for the northern states would be Providers. The beans grow in clusters so you can reach in the bush in one spot to find the ones ready to pick, rather than hunt throughout the bush. Another good producer is the Contender, but I haven't been able to find it for years. But if you are looking for a good, hearty bean for Southern style, simmering all day long in a pot with a ham hock, the Roma, or "flat Italian" is my choice.

Those are dried shelling beans. Pretty much any green bean can be allowed to dry out and you shell out the beans. However, some varities are better than others for this. The green beans shown in this video are best for eating the entire fresh pod.

@@DebRoo11 no . I grown them in my hukelkultur . It was over a hundred degrees for a few weeks last year . Im sure now thats why they died.I thought beens could take alot of heat . alot of stuff I dont know about gardening . I will fall plant if it fails.

What brand of fertilizer do you use in the beginning stage for the green beans?
@JerrasGarden
@JerrasGarden Год назад
I use Jobes or Espoma brand tomato tone organic granular fertilizer for just about everything. I sprinkled in some in the trenches before I planted the seed.

I planted way too many beans together. Should I tear it out, and re plant?
@JerrasGarden

I cram bean seeds in and never had a problem. I would have to see a picture of how crammed yours are.

Enjoyed the tips but you’re misled about the heat… Zone 6 gets plenty of 100°+ in summer!

You probably get an occassional heat wave but not 3 months in a row of 95 to 110F which is my situation LOL.

Try sowing 1 bean seed per cell of a 72 cell seed tray and transplant the seedlings when they are 3 weeks old
