People in the comments are hella annoying 🙄. Like who cares if she moves her hands a lot. That's just how she talks. She's adorable. LET HER BE ADORABLE! 😂👏🏾🙌🏾
Seun, a woman moving her hands and touching her hair is a sign of femininity in just about every country on earth. Some folks, yes black folks, are uncomfortable seeing a Black woman express her femininity by playing with her hair. Thus you see the myriad of baseless complaints here. These folks want you to portray a "strong" black woman instead of the gorgeous, young lady you are who is having fun and enjoying her hair. They've said everything from it's against the Bible to worship your hair to it being you manipulating your hair and a bunch of other nonsense. You know that most of that is jealousy right? Flip your hair, swing it, shake it, touch it. You grew it and it belongs to you, dear. They dont get mad at Becky for touching her hair every 5 seconds, but it is weird to them to see a Black woman proud of her hair. Don't change who you are for others. You're wonderful just the way you are!
melosidad1 For me, I feel that it's distracting the way that she keeps moving her hands.I love her hair, and she should feel good about it.Not everyone is jealous, it's just distracting.
Because they are insecure within, and lack confidence. Therefore, when they see other girls happy and healthy, they start hating and being jealous because they don't carry this energy and confidence.
Sorry for moving my hands so much in this video!! I didn't realize it until you guys pointed it out, but now I know, and will be better in the future. Thanks!
This was a great video! Thank you for your tips. Not gonna lie though... I was slick hoping that was a wig that you were going to show us, then I read the title. lol! :D you're gorgeous
I usually don't watch videos about hair longer than 5 minutes but Seun's personality had me smiling. Such a cute girl and thanks so much for the advice.
Life With Nina The proof is her hair tutorials which clearly shows that her hair is much shorter and thinner than this. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be petty. But if you're going to have a channel based on healthy relaxed hair, then you should be totally honest with your viewers. All the best to you.
Relaxed, long, short, 'natural', or whatever you want to say about her.....doesn't take away from the fact that she is beautiful, and has a glowing personality. My initial comment made no mention of her hair :)
Jon C She doesn't have genetically long hair. Black People seriously need to stop using this cop-out. If she did, she'd have to be getting a relaxer done every 2- 3 weeks. Have you ever met anyone whose hair grows so fast they have to get touchups every 3 weeks?? Human hair (white, asian AND african) grows at the same rate for the most part, with very little individual genetic variation. She does a better job at _retaining_ the length she grows - which is the same length *you* grow; which is the same length *I* grow- and that comes from knowledge and care NOT genetics.
I always thought my hair grew slowly and wouldn’t get past a certain length, until I realized that it was more a matter of me having to cut my new growth almost as quickly as it grew. I’ve spent the past year and a half trying to figure out how to stop my hair from thinning on the ends or at least slow it down. The changes I’ve made include: moisturizing daily or every other day, stretching my relaxer (went from every 6 weeks to every 10-12), wearing my hair in a bun daily as a protective style, and most importantly, cutting way back on daily manipulation. I feel like that last one is what has truly made the difference for me. I stopped using combs and brushes, and now I just gently finger comb when I moisturize or style it. Oh and I sleep on a satin or silk pillow case, so I don’t have to wrap it anymore (too much manipulation required). I think by the end of this year, I should finally be close to my goal length (bra strap).
@@user-np2bc5mc2q So what can you do if its in your genetics and you got the texture? Can you still get it to grow like they're hair ? I have the same kind of hair as my sisters but mine just don't grow. Well it grows fast but it falls just as fast.
There are many factors that stunts hair growth. Not eating properly, prescribed medications, illnesses and diseases, stress and your genetics. So it doesn't matter what you put on your hair if your inner health is down it does affects your hair growth and texture too. Eating your fruits and vegetables, oily fish, grass fed meats, drinking water, daily exercise, getting lots of rest, cutting down stress last but not least covering your hair before going to bed and using natural oils that agrees with your hair greatly helps.
it does matter what you put on your hair. I have epilepsy and have to take a lot of medication, I have for years. it helps to eat healthy but you also need to KNOW your hair and treat it from the outside as well. balancing protein and moisture is also very important. I have managed to grow my hair to my tailbone by paying attention to both, but if I'm being honest when I changed what I did on the outside I saw results quicker. this is also just speaking from my experience. I am also relaxed.
She is just expressive and excited about presenting her knowledge. The people complaining probably can’t grow their hair for the fact, that they always focused on things have nothing to do with retaining hair, let alone length. Lol,ironically these same critics go and waste time standing in line, consuming gas to spend tons of money on hair extensions coming from people sacrificing their hair to gods and they complain about the price. If they complained more than they educated themselves about growing hair, this young lady wouldn’t have so many Korean clients as critics.
Shawn I think that the reason why she is touching her hair is because she isn't accustomed to wearing it loose all the time. She did say that she keeps it in protective styles. Aside from that I believe that the hand motions is part of her personality. She's adorable though.
JollySugarSocks yeahhh DONT DO IT SIS PLEASE,1st LETS PRAY ABOUT THIS ONE,THOUGH YOU ARE THE ONE THAT HAS TO DEAL WITH IT AND NOT US AND ITS NOT UP TO US,THO BABYGIRL I KRAVE KRAVE NOT CRAVE KRAVE LOONG HAIR SOO I DNT WNT U TO CUT IT SWEETHEART, BUT IF YOU DECIDE TO ILL UNDERSTAND LOL BUT ILL BE HURT I KNO IT SOUNDS CRAZY RIGHTBC ITS NOT MY BODY/HAIR I WISHED IF U DID DECIDE THERE WAS SOMEWAY I COULD ATTACH IT TO MINE PERMANENTLY W/O A TRACK/METHOD IT BE SOMEHOW BONDED TO MY SCALP AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE 😂

goldmouth100 yeah right , I seen about four women that grew there hair to waist length and tailbone length and they go and cut it off and I am like Noooooooooo!!! But it is there hair!! I do not understand my people and then they go buy weave!!
I can only speak for myself, I had to cut because it was in a weakened state. As soon as I would stretch the relaxer, it would break too easily and lead to shorter hair. Very frustrating if you put in all this work to grow it. I also like color and maintaining both relaxed and colored hair is very challenging. Had to transition and braid it up. Leave it alone and less heat..leads to more length and stronger hair in my opinion.
goldmouth100 I cut mine off cause damaged and my hair was straight I missed my curls and it was down my back . Lol length is easy to retain so I'm more worried about the state cause Ik I can grow it back quick and it healthier
@@fayannenatural5204 I put my hair in a few big loose cornrows and wore a u-part wig for like a month. Oiled the braids a lot underneath and the hair was so healthy and soft.
You Guys Stop Complaing Y'all Just Hatin Fr. I Hate when y'all say " Your hands are distracting" "You touch your hair to much in the video" Like She tryna Give u information your hair and you guys are worried about her hands and BTW if u can't see she said she's sorry for moving her hands so much
In my opinion, natural hair is so hard to maintain. I've done both in my life. When my hair was relaxed, it was always, short, dry, damaged, thin and brittle. When My hair was natural, it grew so fast and was so long. I had little to no breakage. It was thick and healthy and I loved it, but for me, personalty it was just too difficult for me to maintain. I'm thinking about cutting mine too, I accidentally used a stronger relaxer on my hair and a lot of it came out leaving my crown very short and the rest of hair different lengths; (some long, some shorter. ) I'm still debating exactly what I want to do. I wish there was some sort of happy medium. Years ago all I wore was weave, because I didn't have to do much to it. Just mainly get up and go, but I've been exploring other options. My hair is naturally dry so that is one of the biggest problems for me. I know I am supposed to oil moisturize and condition daily, but even that sometimes begins to be a bit too much.
Agreed. Growing long natural hair is not easy and can be so confusing for newly natural. GROW YOUR HAIR is an app on GOOGLE PLAY STORE to help newly naturals. Its very helpful
I love your hair...I love natural hair...relaxed hair..short hair...long hair....weaves hair...braided hair..even the short no hair styles....what dont people get about being individual..... Its your hair....its 2017....do what the hell you want with it.....common sense...if your hair is a different texture then take care of it with that texture......some people may not actually can grow their hair long....it actually maybe genetics.......who knows...just research....put in your own work and just Be you.....
denise mitchell - Exactly. I think black people (I'm black) are being brainwashed into thinking that they have to do what every other black person does. We're all individuals so the natural hair movement should shut up and go and watch natural hair movement videos instead of relaxed hair videos. Black people should empower and encourage each other to be individuals, just like every other race does!!!
I’m a black woman with natural hair but I watch her videos because she has some very good tips on hair protection.....and you’re right there is nothing wrong with black women straightening their hair. However I would advice to be mindful of the brand being used because some of their formulas can lead to health issues such as fibroids. But being cautious of the products also goes for the natural girls because many of these companies use harmful chemicals in their formulas.
Kenzo Lorenzo It's not all her hair. Take a look at the videos where she's braiding her own hair. It's nowhere near this long or thick. Please be honest, Seun. I just found your videos and you are very talented, but because of this video, I'm thinking about unsubscribing.
I disagree protective styles do not grow your hair, it helps you retain length. Additionally not everyone can wear protective styles and have success with length retention. After a while some people's hair will start to thin out and break.
Meka SLM It might not work for you but it grows my daughters hair. Her hair is mid back length now. After taking out her crochet it grew 3 inches in a month. Her hair is healthy and thick. If you have Instagram you can check it out. Gor_geous07
Yes, at the beginning of this video I tried to make it clear that the problem that we're trying to solve isn't that our hair isn't growing, but that our hair isn't retaining length. Protective styles work wonders for me, but I understand that everyone is different(: Show less
you have a point. your hair grows either way it is morw about retaining length. also folks dont get as much out of a protective style because they dont wash, condition or moisturizing their hair while it is in protective styles.
I saw that you said natural products haven't worked for you. I use 5 large carrots shredded into a pan, 1 over ripe or soft large avocado smashed into the carrots and add 2 1/2 C of extra virgin olive oil. Cook on simmer for 20mins without a lid.. Strain ONLY the liquid. My hair is SUPER dry but not anymore.. It also made my hair grow and finally keeping its length. I do my own box braids. I also use rice water to wash my hair. I put Vicks on my edges to grow, learned from my dermatologist, it WORKS!!
I just got my first Sew in "professionally"for the first time in March... I couldnt WAIT to take it out! I used RAW hair had a closure as well. I also used a net. My braids were FAR from tight. I got a deep conditioning and trim before the braids were done & washed my sew-in every 2 weeks. I HATED my first weave experience. Why? I took my sew-in out after 1 month and a week. I tried to wait the full 2 months but just couldnt. It itched and I had so much shedding and breakage and swollen sores in my scalp after the takedown. I have coarse kinky thick healthy hair and to see the thin limp breakage was horrid. So now, im nursing it back to health with Castor oil and Amla oil & crochet braids(luv these). I believe the breakage & sores came from scratching the net onto my scalp. I almost forbid sew-ins after that experience but... Im ginna try again cause I did have some growth. Next time... im doing it myself and NO NET!
it is such a pleasure to watch you !!! People can be intolerant , hand gesture while talking is a sign of passion. The person believes in what she is saying and that the beauty of this channel. She is informative and truthfull. So please let her be with her hands moving all around. by the way, she is african, and when we talk, we like to hand gesture!
What is the sense of growing your hair if you can't wear it out? I want to grow my hair but putting it up all the time isn't worth it to me. I prefer to wear my hair more often than wearing a protective style. She has this beautiful head of hair but only wears it out one week of every 4 months?
Denesha Record I wear my hair out all the time. You just can't be scared to oil it up and moisturize it. Protection can come from sealing in moisture like a crazy woman. Your ends just need to retain moisture. Protective styles are a option if you don't want to oil your hair down daily. It's pros and cons to both ways.
I agree. I am sure she is happy with her method, but to me, it is not worth it. All that work only to wear it out a fraction of the time. But people like knowing they have long hair, without seeing it. For me, seeing is believing.. lol! I'd rather have mid length hair that I can enjoy. That is just me.
I think it's just up to the individual. I have long hair (just below armpit length) but it's also really thick. I like the length for how it looks when it's curly. Wearing it straight every once and a while keeps it an exciting and interesting style. That's probably why she's touching it so much. I only straighten my hair like 2-3x a year. And by the time I do it I've forgotten what my hair looks or feels like straight so it's a brand new experience hahaha
Relaxer is best done every 8 weeks, sometimes waiting too long causes breakage, all relaxer isn't sodium hydroxide and it does matter because lithium hydroxide cannot be used on a head that was previously relaxes by calcium hydroxid, please be careful with the info you are spreading,no wonder so many women walk into the salon with damaged hair because they gone crazy with RU-vid tutorials and a lot of them send wrong info
Sherry Ann Todd. All you need is a good stay in conditioner like fermadol to keep the new growth for breaking from the perm. It's the ph balance that's in the stay in product My hair is about her length. I don't get perms any longer but I use to do them 6months at a time and uses the ph stay in conditioner. F.Y.I
Sherry Ann Todd you're right that waiting too long between relaxers isn't good for the health of your hair, but there are too many variables to state 8 weeks as a hard and fast rule. How often you relax depends on how quickly your hair grows (some people have more new growth than others at 8 weeks), how thick it is (thicker hair can be more forgiving of longer stretch times, because it tends to be stronger), how well you condition/moisturize (the healthier your hair, the more likely you can stretch it past the 8 weeks), how long you leave relaxer in when you do relax, what #type of hair you have (I have 4c but it's wavy, not super tight-- it doesn't draw up as much as some 4c hair. If my hair were tighter I'd have even more difference between my relaxed and unrelaxed hair making the meeting point even weaker)... I sometimes relax at 8 weeks. I have stretched to 12/13 weeks without noticeable damage. 10 weeks is probably my "sweet spot".
Seun, I had followed one of your crocheting tutorials when I had shoulder length hair and was very happy with my diy results. Since then I have done some pretty extreem things to my hair over the years. Once the damage was done I broke down and got the "big chop". My hair is now long enough for protective styles so I went with box braids by African braiding hands. Needless to say, the first 2 nights I had to sleep on my face because my hair was so tight and everything(even turning my head) hurt so bad. And YAAAS! So far my edges are the first to go and I have not had these braids in for a whole week yet. Had I known then what I know now. I have found you video's to be SUPER informative and educational. This time around I have subscribed and liked/loved. This is only the begining for my hair. I surely don't want it to be end because of these braids. From now on I plan to use the information you have provided to guide me on how to treat my hair as I continue on my journey to growth. Thank you so so much for keeping it real, and for putting in the work to make these videos for us women who take growing and caring for our hair very serious. ❤Much Love and Respect🙏
Lovely hair. I’m natural but this is similar to how I grew my hair a little bit longer than where I had previously plateaued. As little manipulation as possible! And I quit hair dressers entirely, not just the African braiders. I realized they were all ripping out my hair. I remember cringing as one braider combed my dry hair with a small fine tooth comb. I remember thinking, “this can’t be the right way to handle my hair” but at the same time I trusted the women doing my hair as trained and knowledgeable professionals. Took my while to learn they really don’t care about your hair at all. Especially if you’re natural with 4C. It takes a lot of work and patience to handle natural hair delicately. I learned how to do my own protective styling (mostly braids and wigs) But honestly my hair is sooo much work JUST to wear protective styles 95% of the time. Too much work for me. I totally understand you thinking about shaving your head. Im really considering ending all this insanity and freeing up my life by getting Sisterlocks. My consultation is early next year. Good luck with your hair goals!
My hair was longer than yours and i shaved it off. I had shoulder surgery and was awaiting neck surgery. So I physically couldn’t care for it and it was getting tangled. At the time I was natural. Now I’m relaxed. But my point is.....our hair will grow back!!! So if you feel like cutting just go for it. You know what to do to keep it healthy and strong and when you want it long again you know how to care for your hair. Best of luck. I enjoyed your video.
Girl show off that beautiful mane! I love when u flip it & move it around keep doing it keep them haters hating! I don't understand how some1 would hate on u cause you're telling us how to take care of our hair so we can have a healthy crowning glory & to grow our hair long if we want it long. It's something wrong if someone can't appreciate your knowledge that you're giving to your views.
Gorgeous hair! Before I decided to go natural I tried to stretch it but the two textures were in a fist fight everyday and my relaxed hair lost and hit the floor. keep doing your thing.
You have a beautiful smile also don't listen to the negative comments the way you touched your hair is adorable most of the people complaining are just jealous
yall be in the comments Wildin. talking bout how she moves her hands a lot. that just means that she a good at speech. In order to be good at speech, you need to be very consistent with your body movement and the way you speak.
You are beautiful! Flip your hair, move your hands. Do whatever you want if that makes you comfortable! If they don’t like it, no one is twisting there freaking arm to watch your video! In my words, yes my words, to hell with them with they jealous asses! I really had a few other choice words but decided to save them. Now back to wonderful tips that have helped so many. Oh an thank you for taking time out of your day to share with us.
Hy guys your video rocks people have a problem what's wrong with her using her hands so much there is noting wrong just because you don't have long thick hair to touch stop being jealous
Girl its so cute to see u touch ur gorgeous hair. I can tell u love it. And its a sign of you finding yourself desirable, pretty and feminine that you do that. And indeed you are those things... I love it. All women should feel that way about themselves, not just white women. And if you have ever watched the ever sexy, ever beautiful, Ms Diana Ross, she flipped her hair back, and played with it ALOT and she always had men mesmerized by her beauty and feminine charms. Including the one and Only Michael Jackson who was so in love with her he could not see straight. And called her the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen!!! So all I can say is do your thing girl!! And PLEASE don't cut it! Its gorgeous!!
I remember when I first got my relaxer in 2003 my hair grew at least two and a half to three inches and it was growing very long probably like yours now and then all of a sudden after 2 years no I'm sorry 3 years after my hair was very long every time I went in every two weeks my beautician was cutting on my hair I didn't say anything the first two times because my hair was long and I thought that what she was trying to do you know keep up with my hair but she kept on cutting and I was going in every two weeks to get my hair washed and conditioned and all of a sudden my hair was cut in layers in the bottom in the middle just cut and when I went home my daughter noticed it because I always get my relaxer and then put it in a ponytail and come home my hair was so damaged I really wanted to go back up there to that salon and just you know but the holy spirit said no so what I did I cried for a little while my husband came home from work I showed him my hair he told me to go back and get my money I said forget about it I went to another stylist what she wanted to do is cut it all off so I can start over I told her no just finish it up you can trim it but just finish it up and she did that but every time I wanted to go to her she just wanted to cut it so what I start doing is trying to find a beautician that really cared about my hair and the condition of my hair low and behold this woman at the church that I went to introduce me to her stylist and her name was Kathy and she mended my hair I was with her for one year she did trim it a little bit to even it out but she said if she were to even it out how my hair would have been up to my ears so it was at my neck and the rest of it came she the one introduced me to oil and telling me to deep condition used deep conditioners keep my hair moisturized keep my hair up and not on my shoulders because it may break so after a year I told her that I can do these things myself at home and that's when I started doing my own relaxers and this was back in 2010 and ever since then I start doing my own and my hair is healthy it's growing I wish you can visit my channel and see from beginning up until now LOL but my hair is healthy and it is growing so my daughter's do my relaxer and what I've learned from the last beautician and other RU-vidrs that I watch like yourself my hair is healthy thank you so much God bless🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷😙
Wow. I love that we as black women all have a story to tell about our hair. It's so interesting to learn about stories like yours. Good luck with continuing to grow your hair long!
The first year of my hair journey I was over manipulating my hair so when I did my length check it barely even grew I was so my annoyed I hid my hair in braids for a year and treated my hair when removing the style I'm still on my second year of my hair journey and my hair grew sooo much best decision ever stop touching my hair often
Thank you for mentioning the danger in going to African Braiding salons. They are not your friend and they rip your hair out...leading to more set backs. I wish we had a list of people who do great sew ins and more personal testimonials. Hard to find a hairdresser you can trust.
Tips:.relax using mild blow out rather than perm relaxer. That's the trick to protect hair from damage from relaxers. Also, the fewer the products you use, the better. I see many people having over 8 bottles of product for their hair! Why? Oh, one is for moisture then blase blase blase. Just have organic shampoo, conditioner, sun screen or spray and hair oil. Stop with the extra stuff. You just weigh your hair down. General tip: use spices with an oil base as your hair oil. Good advise Seun!
I had to pause this video at (05:0) because she said the most intelligent thing ; she said "find out why" / " find the source of your hair problem" before putting a load of crap in your hair. She is the first person to say " find the problem" like duh . this young lady is very intelligent. Ok back to the video. 😊😊
99.9 of people complaining about people complaining about her moving her hands too much 0.1% of people: actually complaining about her moving her hands too much
I think your hair is VERY PRETTY.. hope you don't cut it off.. but... it's your hair .. for sure you'll know how to grow it out again.. and as far as your hand movement..BIG DEAL.. I think you're just illustrating how long and fluffy and pretty your hair is ... nothing wrong with that.. God bless :) stay true to yourself.
It's crazy that I ran upon this video and everything that your saying is true cause I've figured this out on my own within my 3 years of doing my own hair throughout high school.(on my last year now) and my hair has been growing it's butt off to an unimaginable length. My hair went from damaged and fragile from heat and tight braids to this thick luxuries texture that everyone want 😩and I try to stretch my relaxers for as long as I can go without it!
Love this video Seun. I watched your sew in weave video and was able to put one in my hair afterwards for the first time, so thank you for that. Now that I have a working knowledge of how to do a sew in, I'm going to try to do it regularly and see if my hair retains more length or not. I usually have braids and have had success that route so it'll be interesting to see which is better. I'm thinking the weave (but then i have issues at the gym with the leave out when it gets all sweaty). Thanks again 💜
Omg omg thank you soooo much like I honestly struggle and often get sad about my hair length and how I’m so different from some others hair and I rly get stressed about how short my hair is because my hair length is the only thing I wish I could change faster but ik it takes time and this video rly gave me inspiration and changed my mood from a sad to humble mood.☺️
They jealous you because your video is brilliant and i am a qualified hairdresser and everything youve said is accurate. Well done and very informative. Thise who put thumb down are rancorous
Genetics help too. Everyone’s hair grows but not at same rate or thickness. I spent too much of my life worrying about length. Now it’s about is my scalp healthy? With that comes healthy hair, long or short, your a Queen 💯
Very nicely done video. Had a friend do my relaxer who insisted on pulling it thru 3x even with me saying "Ok, don't pull it thru on already relaxed hair!" Next, decided 2 do my own JUST 4 ME relaxer & didn't want 2 leave it in 2 long. So now I have nappy roots, overly straight rest of the hair, hair snapping off mid-way the length, losing hair even when I sneeze-I just want 2 run away! 😢 BUT... age makes a difference 2. Wen I was your age my harmonies were still alive, wouldn't miss a day of taking my vitamins. Got on Collagen 3 weeks ago & made an appt @ a salon 4 nxt week-prayers please... ❤
Girllll it's also genes, I did everything but nadas mine will get to my shoulders and just stop. It will grow but break once it gets to shoulder length every time. My stylist of many years got very confused. So am natural now. ITS YOUR GENES!!!!!!
Seun am 6 months in, I'll let you know if it stops growing at my shoulders again. My point is you also have to include that genetics matter when it comes to hair growth, doesn't mean what has worked for you will work for someone else
your hair might be breaking off because when hair gets to shoulder length it usually stunts bc of the friction that can be caused by your clothes and stuff. so maybe your hair might grow if you minimize the contact it has with your shoulders? it depends though
Lirrulewon I use to struggling at shoulder length. Here is my tip to get longer hair. I was SL at the beginning of 2016 and I wore a lot of wigs, crochet (no too tigh) and twists without extensions it help me a lot to retain length and now i'm BSL. You have to use your comb as less as possible, so I didn't wear cornrows under my wigs but medium box braids in a low ponytail. I took me a while but it worked! :)
So, i went from braids for 3 yrs, after i did the big chop. The braids made my hair grow and it was (and i stress "was") super thick, but thinned out my edges. I got a perm on virgin hair, but believe the stylist over processed my hair. Soooo, im doing the rice water to regain the edges and thickness. After seeing your relaxed hair, i see there is hope!😍 i hope i have the same outcome!!!
Also something I realized a lot of people forget is you have to moisturize your scalp when you have those protective styles in . Still go in and put grease or whatever you use
Thank you 😊💖💖 I learned new thing from you I don’t know why my relaxed hair keeps breaking I think because I relax it after every 6 months but from this video I have learned so much that I know will help me from today I will start to relax my hair after every 3 months 💖
The beautiful girl is talking about hair is she suppose to touch her feet instead, please focus on what she is saying and sharing with us Instead of criticizing her!
Cloves Painted Canvas, I had a similar experience from a sew in. I have sensitive skin and the stylist put some type of oil mixture on my scalp, braided w-a-y to tight and pulled the stiff netting even tighter. I've had many extensions since and never had a repeat of the problem. Also there are different types of netting available, some softer than others. Also, as Seun stated be sure they do not braid your hair to tight or catch your edges.
Very I formative video! This is coming from a good place. Touching your hair a lot also cause breakage. I have a real nice length to my hair as well. And am relaxed girl and I’ve notice the less I do and the less I manipulate my hair is the best results I see!
if u think that she is moving a lot in this video then stop watching by closing ur eyes and open your ears and listen..keep on moving Seun..manipulate your hair as much as u like 😍
protective styling does not grow your hair, they increase length retention by hopefully reducing breakage.... my hair has always grown fast, relaxed or kinky natural. I encourage length retention by making sure it is always moisturized. I never wear protective styles.
My point exactly! Why grow your hair if it always in a protective style? You can't get to enjoy it as much. I want to grow my hair without all that protective styling. IMO, It defeats the purpose for me. I want to grow long beautiful hair and look at it every day.
+BklynBabe Yes, at the beginning of this video I tried to make it clear that the problem isn't that our hair isn't growing, but that we aren't retaining length because relaxed hair is weak and more prone to breakage. Protective styling was worked wonders for me, but I understand that everyone is different(:
+Denesha Record That's a very good point. I guess it doesn't bother me as much because I like to change my hair often anyways, but I see why you would want to leave your hair out more often.
I see comments speaking about generalizing on African Hair Braiding. I have been getting my hair braided since the 80's and have been to MULTITUDES OF AHB salons in various states. All but one person braided my hair extremely tight even after I stipulated that they be gentler being my scalp is very tender. Do they listen? No!!!! Whenever I yell "OUCH!" which is many, many times during the braiding process they give me: "SORRY" BUT CONTINUE ANYWAY. I stopped getting my hair braided completely and go to AA hair stylists. Not generalizing, it's the truth!
