I've been following your tips and advice Darren. In a month of youtubing I'm at 140 subs, 7k total views and 200 watch hours. These tips definitely work!
First…thanks for not YELLING at us like some of the bigger “experts” do. Those fast moving, brightly colored, fast talking videos are exhausting. Second…thank you for essentially providing a content planning calendar for those of us with organizational struggles (adhd). I appreciate the calm, meandering storytelling and your mild manner. I could watch your videos all day! So much value here. 🙏✨
What I like about this: 1. Educational - A complex topic simplified 2. Entertaining - Your delivery style is not over stimulating and it's a vibe. See you at the top Darren. IA
Bro, similar sized RU-vidr here (for now because I'm sure you are going to grow). This is the first video of yours I've seen and it is pure gold. You hit one of those points that is common sense but you don't realize it until you hear it for the first time. I have felt uncertain at times with my approach to RU-vid and I will definitely try these strategies. Aside from the advice the production, pace, and effort is top notch. I feel like you didn't waste anyone's time during the video and I see the filters, mic, back lighting, key lighting, transitions, scenery, props, etc. I appreciate the effort you've put into your videos.
Thanks fo rthis video. I've been on RU-vid for 10 years and grown to the point where I'm doing it as my job, but what I have been doing isn't what it once was for me and I'v been struggling for months to figure out how to turn it around and go in a different direction. I just watched your channel trailer and what you were saying about age resonated with me. I turn 53 this year, but I've been making stuff since a really young age. Started as a songwriter when I was 15, became a writer in my 30s, taught writing for 15 years, started RU-vid as a hobby and turned it into my job. My most difficult challenge is figuring how to move forward. Do I keep my existing channel and start new? Do I pivot that channel? I want to share what I've learned and experienced over the years, but it feels too big in my head. This video helped simplify it for me. Thanks again.
What about educating whilst being entertaining? You think the 2 can be combined? ...wait 3:31 . There you did it. See, I'm paying attention. you did it again! 09:50 Oh, and shooting for 8 minutes and 1 second to get that mid-roll!
This is THE best video I’ve seen on understanding the basics of how to grow a channel the right way. All packed in nicely into one video with a little story telling AND personality. Probably shaving YEARS of trial and error off some newer creators attempts to grow! Love it!! Great job!
I literally wrote everything down on my notebook, paper book ( I mean), so I don’t lose this information. Will implement the strategy thank you. I am just starting and I am 56 years old.
Very helpful info, and loved the smacking the board bit. When you went out to look for a stick 😂it’s little details like this that cause you to stand out and be remembered
Great video man. Really love the content. I like how essentially you're approaching it like an actual friendship. Like at first a person would be less inclined to sit around with someone they don't know doing nothing..... (Vlog), but if there's a party, event, etc... sure (Education or Entertainment). Then after a few of those interactions you may say "hey I actually like this person, they're fun to be around". That's when you might actually say yes to a less eventful interaction (Vlog). Keep up the good work. Look forward to the next upload.
DUDE! I just came across this video and you are really entertaining. Simple, straight to the point and again....entertaining. New subscriber here. While I have heard these 2 concepts before, you definitely came at it from a different perspective. love it!
That intro was hilarious 😂 I have been binging on your videos lately because what you say in them resonates with me and how I feel! I find it amazing how you can get to my emotions from just a few videos! Keep doing the Lord's work!
I’m only half way through this video and I have to say it’s the best and most informational video on the how to start YouTubing topic I think I have ever seen. Thank you! Really great video!
A great video that demonstrates how you use the Ee for the video whist talking about the Ee approach to starting a YT channel. Clearly you are a very accomplished creator and I appreciate you taking the time to pass on your skills. New sub here. 😃😃
I want to take a min and appreciate your videos. First off thank you for not screaming at me for not doing "something" so important and make me feel like i'm missing out. The mix of cinematic and calm story telling with examples is great! Please never stop making these videos. I might very soon start my own channel.
LOVE your videos and style. Dry, witty and educational = EE. I’ve been trying to build my channel and weirdly shying away from what I’m best at … Mental Health. Keep up the awesome work, buddy ✌️
Bro...I gotta tell you something... and I'm not going to lie... from one man to another... If I could summarise in thought how I feel about this channel... You'd probably think twice before posting another one.... Let alone STOP posting altogether..... But I just wanted to say.... From the bottom of my heart..... No homo..... YOUR VIDEOS.... ARE A GEM!!!! 🤝
I appreciate it! It's taped under my shirt. I hate having to use a book mic so I have a wireless setup. I also hate having the mic showing so I've learned to hide it and how to boost sound in post.
@@DarrenNaylor that's honestly very impressive! I can't see it at all, it adds to the natural and organic filmy feel of your production. Great job! Subbed.
I just had a strategy session with my wife about how to restructure our channel, open up RU-vid and guess what video was at the top of my page? That's right. This one, exactly the moment I needed to hear this. Keep up the good work man. You're doing great!
Rhanks for the quick reply... The other links work fine but for some reason this one's wonky... I found it on another video of yours & it's broken there too 🤪 I'll check back again later today. THANKS! @@DarrenNaylor
The part where you're talking to yourself is as funny as heck.... ! That's a good one... Put that right into "entertainment." But actually, you're also teaching the viewer something... What's interesting and what isn't. You've covered your two bases in that one scene. I've got a new channel and I think you've narrowed it down accurately - but why does youtube give more than these two options when they ask you to categorize your channel? When there really are only these two options? Hmmmmm.......
This is excellent! Thank you for simplifying the steps (education) in growing YT process in an entertaining way (entertainment) You practice what you teach - so so good! Keep them coming - I’ve become a fan. 🤙🏽🎉
Oh wow, this is one of the best videos I have ever watched on RU-vid. You threw out a bunch of values and nuggets. Thank you so much. I appreciate it and will definitely incorporate them into my RU-vid Channel. You got a subscriber ❤
Great advice and arguably some of the best delivery I’ve seen for this type of content. Clear and actionable and really useful as im about to start my own channel. Thank you 👊
Thanks for this great video, Darren! I’ve watched shedloads of how to RU-vid videos and I love your approach, it’s refreshing to be talked to on a level like this and I found a lot of new things to think about. I find RU-vid quite a puzzle because I’m a musician with an existing fanbase, here trying to talk to them and find new people to come into my audiovisual world, so I always wonder if I’m making the right videos for my goals. It’s a head scratcher, but I just keep trying things and I do get lovely comments which make me think I’m onto something. But going it alone I feel like I’m guessing a lot of the time. Anyway, thanks again! If you’re ever offering channel reviews / insights I’d be really interested in that. Sending warm wishes from the UK
This has been the most concise and well organized list of actionable steps I've seen for anybody looking insto start their channel. Thank you Darren. Keep up the awesome.
Ive been watching your videos for a few months. (Your video about starting in your 30s) Loved the editing then and still loving the way you edit your videos. I watch and try to figure out how i can edit like you. I think adding more entertainment to my educational videos would be a great place to start. I saw an educational creator grow very quickly by adding entertainment to education videos. Ive asked before in a comment...but now I'm groveling...please teach me how to Darren😂(wrote that line while singing in my head...teach me how to Dougie) I need to learn...I know your videos take a lot of work. Im ready to WORK. Great video with sound advice and even better video editing.
Thank you Darren. I only have 5 subs but over 2K views. I focus mainly on educational content but despite this my entertainment stuff does the best i.e. music and comedy. I like how you encouraged us to keep on the educational path to build a trusted brand.
Darren, I like your chill vibe and funny too. We have a few things in common: self-taught painter an self-published author. A week ago, I restarted my RU-vid channel to showcase my finished artwork which I feel will gain traction as time goes by. However, I think filming myself in the process of painting will attract more attention faster, right? Now I must go and buy filming equipment. :)
I’ve started to watch your video and I’ve thought this guy is a bit peculiar. I’ve stayed and I’ve liked your vision and what you’re been explaining, so I’ve subscribed for more. 😊
Just found your channel, (3 videos in), and I'm really enjoying your content. The way you explain things make a lot of sense and feel very actionable. I also find you very entertaining (double 'E') without being slick or vague.
9:21 - THIS! When I uploaded content on RU-vid between 2014-2019... it came from the wrong place. I tried to position myself as an expert and, in turn, put too much pressure on myself. Your authentic approach is WAY more natural, and also helps in creating your own niche. P. S. ngl, this video alone inspired me to go back and create content again (turned 30 last year too and have got more perspective/skills now). Educate, then entertain. Keep doing your thing!
Ten Million, sure looks like 10.8k to me on your video. Ok, go big! Right. I'm 15 years in and still only have 718 subs. Ok, I didn't do much for 14 years. Redirected my channel niche on Sept. 1, 2024 and decided to go all in. Not quit. Great video and I will be watching again and taking notes.
