Grow Room Vlog - Potting Up Coleus & Lobelia 

I soak neem cakes in water and moisten my soil with it before planting seeds. This has stopped gnats for me, and yes, I'm running out of space, so I purchased a greenhouse that is in front of my patio door, which gets a ton of light. As they grow into larger plants, I move them from grow lights to this greenhouse until hardening off time, while I still keep the smaller seedlings upstairs under lights in the "Grow Room.""

I use mosquito bits for fungus gnats. They sell them in pellets and disks. I have only used the pellets. I know The Gardeners Workshop uses the disks. They drop one in the watering can and water the plants with it. I found it pretty effective. I do the boiling water to the seed start as well. I’ve heard the yellow sticking traps work great. Two years ago I brought in a tray of petunias from outside for winter they were near the dryer vent though they had lint on them. They were full of APHIDS they all almost killed all my seedlings. They were everywhere in the house, yes fungus naats are terrible too. now when I bring in any plant from the outdoors I treat the soil with 3% peroxide diluted 1:1. Then with two waterings I make tea from those Mostiquto bits 4 tablespoons per gallon as per label directions

Everything looks so great! I still have sweet peas, Japanese anemone pink saucer, my herbs, and nasturtium to start. My Alternanthera desperately needs potted up.

What kind of lights do you use ! Love your videos and flowers. New to gardening and planting seedlings! You inspire me.

For the space issue- I decided I'm going to use.my grow room for germinating seeds, & growing them on just for about 2-3 weeks, then moving them out to the greenhouse instead of buying a bunch more shelves & grow lights. So I purchased a 10x12 harbor freight greenhouse last fall, hecause the cost of more lights and shelves would have cost me almost as much as the greenhouse. (& I needed something like a greenhouse anyways, because when its time to harden them off, I really need a covered stricture i can take them out to, so that theyregetting exposure to sun & a little wind, but not TOO MUCH. & I also needed something that gives protection from rain, because since they're in seed starting mix- which is super light & fluffy, the rain comes down so hard, it will cause the soil to be splashed out.) Also, it REALLY saves my back, becaause now I wont have to bend over 50 times a day to pick up the trays, sit them outside, then pick them all back up to bring back inside...

I deal with fungus gnats hatching from my seed starting mix every year. I hate it because then they of course end up in my kitchen & on fruit, etc. I use the yellow sticky traps to MONITOR THEM (because the sticky traps do nothing to control runt) Since they can lay HUNDREDS of eggs per week, you have to get/use something to kill the eggs. I use bactive (a cheaper alternative to the very popular "gnatrol". I akso get it in much smaller bags, so it's not as expensive! & you use it to water/when you water, every 5 days. Definitely use it every 5 days. Dont skimp on that! Because of the quick life cycle of the fungus gnat/larvae, if you wait say 8 days for example, then all the fungus gnats will be hatched & flying around. Then THEY will be laying hundreds MORE EGGS!

I used your advised I planted the seeds the same way. I already transferred about 60 and have probably 60 more. I didn't do well with Impatient only one germinated.. I didn't covet the seeds. I planted Aster seeds they doing well my Hungarian peppers and 🍅 doing well but my Cosmos leggy. I also planted some Zinia seeds. Of course Dahlia tubers gladiolus bulbs. I do have a question I started winter sowing snapdragons this is the first time. They all germinated I was so exited. Do you transplant them into the garden when they get bigger or transplant them into pots, but I would need lots of pots.

I love your informative videos. I do have a problem I hope you can help. I up potted my sprouted ranunculus into 3" pots about 2 weeks ago. Last week I fertilized them and today I notice odd growth and curled leaves. I am heartbroken that I over fertilized and not sure if I should toss them or if I should unpot them, rinse the roots and repot in new soil? As the plants are from corms, will the corms be damaged as well as the roots? Hope you can help!

Can you put these sized lobelia in the garden directly? Mine just germinated and I don’t think I will have enough time for growth when I plant at the end of the month.

fungus gnats yellow stickies 100%. Don't waste time with anything else. Have them out day one.
