In the past 6 months my hair had grown around 3-4 inches. In this video I talk about why I believe I was able to grow my natural hair this fast.
As I show you what I've been doing with my hair majority of the time over the past 6 months I speak about:
Braid outs Vs wash and gos
Re-moisturising between wash days
Detangling
Length retention Vs hair growth
and more to explain what I believe helps afro hair grow faster.

I cut my hair to about shoulder length in July, and when I got it straightened in December I also had about 3-4 inches of growth! I consider myself a lazy natural... I usually keep my hair in twists or braids most of the week also, and then take them down closer to my wash day. You're definitely right- leaving your hair alone definitely retains length and health!

I have to say that these are some of the most realistic, accurate and spot on tips. I also notice for myself much more single strand knots and breakage with wash and gos too. You're right, length retention is key!

Omg finally someone who agrees that wash and gos are actually damaging 😭 everyone on youtube seems to swear by wash and gos. it literally ended up thinning my hair

I hear you about the wash and gos Sis! I am still going to do them but I'm going to incorporate more sealing in with oil because by the end of the week, my hair can be so dry! There's a reason why simple styles like braids and twists have been great for textured hair for centuries... they work! All the best for your hair growth for 2020! x

I felt this post on my soul!!!!! I am the same, wash and gos are my go too. However my single strand knots are insane and I’ve been natural for nearly 4 years and cannot get past shoulder length #letsdothis

Great vid! This method is great for *fullness* especially. My hair is long, luscious, and full from root to tip. Minimal breakage from minimal handling and weekly shampoo for clean scalp! Plus the regularity reduces tangles; and wash day is

This makes complete sense to me as I did a long-term transition from shoulder length relaxed to at least shoulder length natural without doing a big chop and braidouts were alI did. After a while I started doing twistouts and finally wash-n-gos. Next came dabbling in color from blond ombre to full blond highlights grown all the way out and then getting blond tips to finally growing my natural color out cutting off every last bit of the color. There was a definite difference, beyond just the color, between my color treated and my natural hair. I miss having the color but LOVE and appreciate my natural hair color even more now. For convenience I'm currently wearing wash-n-gos using amazingly moisturizing products but my plan in the next few weeks is to go back to braidouts so I can start gaining some added length.

EXCELLENT TIPS AND ADVICE! I have been doing this since December after leaving in my cornrows for 4 1/2 months and not washing my hair. My hair got matted and it took me almost 19 hours to get the matted hair out. Needless to say , i suffered tremendous damage. So i started washing my hair weekly and daily moisturizing my hair (yes i moisturized daily because i have extremely dry hair.... it needs to be moisturized daily or it will break). AT this moment i have eleven plats in my hair. I leave my plats in for the whole week before i take them out. I just sprits them with water and moisturized daily. I am a nurse and work three days a week. I put a wig cap on under my wig and go..... and since then my hair has grown several inches... so there is something to leaving your hair in plats :)............ I must say this, you are quite beautiful, personality and all. I had to hit that subscribe button.... Yes, tell those unwanted people to get off your page.

Your hair looks beautiful and healthy and you are absolutely right! I had to that exact same thing. I stopped focusing on the length and started focusing on the health of my hair and what was beneficial for my hair and now It's healthier longer and I'm thrilled because at the age of 61 your hair can easily go opposite,thanks so much for sharing this video!

I 100% agree with your advice...I did braid outs every night for over a year but left them out in the day and then I did Marley twists in my hair for over a year..Nd left them in 3 weeks at a time with a 2 week break..I saw major growth and health in my hair...at the moment I'm doing Wash and gos and I know it's not the best for my hair...the single stand knots can be crazy..I just miss my hair at times..but you reminded me I need to go back to low manipulation and protective styling.

It's so funny how I came across your video and this routine. I have been watching your videos from day one. Our hair may look the same but if you look in depth is completely different. I was struggling to keep my hair moisturized and trying to do other peoples techniques just wasn't working for me, my hair and lifestyle. The routine you do is very similar to mine and finally I have found the moisturizing products that keeps my hair on point. I feel that a lot of naturalists or naturals or whatever we call it days do too much to their hair and we look at it, thinking that is the right way but in reality you have to be consistent, keep it minimal and moisturize the hair. My hair has always been long but right now its bra strap for me that's short and am doing simple length retention but I believe I have a scalp condition in comparison to before when my hair was longer. Have been this lenght for a while now and the growth seems very slow. What would you recommend? I'm glad to see this video, I hope that people see this. We need to keep it simple ladies and lads ❤
@AbbieCurls
@AbbieCurls 4 года назад
i definitely agree that people do too much these days. Natural hair doesn't need 18393products. keep it simple!... If you do feel like you have a scalp condition I would recommend seeking medical advise for that or researching the specific problems you're experiencing with your scalp. Once that is sorted then that could solve the problem with your growth.

I am new to your channel and I really enjoyed and appreciate your tips on hair growth! I saw you mentioned in the Comment section of The Curlie Closet! Just this morning I took my twists down, after wearing them for a whole week. My hair, which is at armpit length, has been breaking for about a month, as a result of Hydra-fatique (I believe). For some reason, about a month ago, I left deep conditioner in my hair overnight, and the next day my hair started to shed heavily when wet. And, since that time, even though I have used protein treatments, it continues to break. Now I realize that by continuing to remoisturize my hair with water as usual between washes, is not necessarily the best thing to do. I compounded the problem last week by prepooing with just a little water sprayed and my oils, then leaving a plastic bag on for about three hours. When I took the plastic cap off, my hair was soaking. YIKES! Breakage city during detangling... I forgot that I intended to wait until my hair was about 85% dry for my final detangle. I love your tips for 2020! Any suggestions to combat the hydra-fatique?
@AbbieCurls
@AbbieCurls 4 года назад
it sounds like you are suffering with something similar towhead i was at the time when i was deep conditioning a lot. I don't think your hair needs as much moisture as you're giving it. It sounds like your hair is often wet, and your doing things like leaving conditioner on over night and conditioning under a ap. This is all quite intense moisture. Maybe try just using a normal conditioner and rinsing it out whilst still in the shower, don't condition with a cap and don't leave it on for a long period of time. Stay away from deep conditioners for a while. Use minimal water between washes. It sounds like you could be suffering from moisture overload.
@rinawallace1962
@rinawallace1962 4 года назад
@@AbbieCurls Thank you so much! While I had not considered lessening deep conditioning, I agree with your suggestions. I normally, neither condition overnight, nor do I leave conditioner on for hours. But I was slightly dampening my hair every few days and adding a small amount of leave-in and oil. Now I am just using a little oil every few days and I leave my twists in for about four or five days, leaving a couple days for a twist out. Not deep conditioning every week will be difficult but I am going to try your suggestions for a month and see what happens. I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

@AbbieCurls, what do you recommend for growing your edges back in? I agree totally with your advice. I pretty much have started shampooing every wash day, however, I do have a couple of co-wash conditioners that I use when I do not want to do the full wash circle. I am happy that you mentioned that you do not deep condition your hair every time you shampoo. Because with some hair types, too much conditioning can defeat the purpose of a great wash day. I cannot really do wash and goes either. I see that you do have a lot of product. Thank you again for a great video.
