For LiFePO4, generally speaking you want to set a Float voltage of between 3.35V and 3.375V per cell. So for a 24V 8s system, Float would be between 26.8V and 27.0V.. The reason you set the float here is because a fully charged LiFePO4 battery will 'settle' (remaining fully charged) at around 3.3V. So this float will provide solar support for your load without depleting your battery, while the sun is up. It will very slowly trickle charge the LiFePO4 battery if there is no load, but for an off-grid system you generally don't care because the instant the sun goes down your loads start to draw the battery down. IF you also have a grid connection most of the time, using the lower 3.35V/cell float (26.8V for an 8s LiFePO4 system) is fairly conservative. For the Bulk target you generally want to set a target of between (roughly) 3.45V to 3.65V per cell, which for an 8s system would be between 27.6V and 29.2V, approximately. Now the bulk setting depends *HEAVILY* on the C rate that your solar system is nominally charging the battery at. If you don't have a lot of panels and can only charge the LiFePO4 battery at a low C rate. For example 0.2C or lower, then you generally need to set a lower bulk target to avoid over-charging the battery. This will still fully charge the battery. However, if you are charging the battery at a higher C rate, for example 0.5C (e.g. if the battery is 100Ah, 0.5C would be 50A), then you need to set a higher bulk target to avoid cutting off the charge too early (the battery will not be fully charged if you are charging at a high C rate and cut-off at a lower bulk target voltage). In this case, charging up to 3.65V cell for the Bulk target might be necessary to get a decent charge. There are other factors too. Lower Bulk targets may leave some solar energy on the table because the charging current will wind up being lower than what the solar can deliver once the battery goes above around 50% charge. Higher bulk target always run the risk of over-charging the battery. Though LiFePO4 is pretty resilient just generally. The rule-of-thumb 'safe' Bulk target voltage is around 3.55V per cell (which would be 28.4V for an 8s LiFePO4 battery). The Growatt should have parameter settings to allow the bulk target and the float voltages to be separately set. Also, I didn't catch the LiFePO4 setup but note that a BMS is mandatory. -Matt

Aloha, Great Info! I'm running a 24v 3000w Growatt with two 24v 100ah ampere batteries. This has helped me out a lot. I am off grid but using a 3500 generator to supplement. I am wondering how this may apply to me. I am only pulling in 350 watts of solar at best on a 600w solar array and thats when its not cloudy which doesn't cover my 150-400w load and charge the batteries fully for the night. It seems to drop the batteries WAY TOO quickly, it turned off at 5am at 22v low cut off and it only wants to charge up to 26.5-26.6 even though I set my bulk and float to 28.2. I tried various settings with mixed results, but curious whateveryone thinks. I'm still trying to figure out what settings I should be using. Util, Sol? And what about number of batteries setting? Sorry I'm still a noob and really appreciate anyone and everyones input. I'm saving up for a 2000w solar panel array, but any other advice would be appreciated. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii where I get a lot more sun. I know It should be doing better than this. Please Help! Mahalo!

@@awfarms8525 Sounds like the panel is not generating enough power and is only able to partially charge the batteries during the day at best. My assumption is that this is why the battery voltage is not able to climb any higher. You have roughly 4.8kWh worth of batteries which, if fully charged, would be able to support roughly a 450W load for 10 hours. The 'solar day' for fixed panels is roughly 6 hours long. 350W x 6 hours is roughly 2.1Kwh, so your current panel setup is only able to charge the batteries half way (and that is only if there is no load). Since you have load too, it is pretty clear that you need more panels. Which you know since you are working on getting 2000W more :-). But in the mean time, see if you can scrounge up a few more panels on the cheap. Even if you have to lay them down on the grass on some 2x4's (make sure they don't wind up in a puddle). Make sure the open-circuit voltage and currents remain within the specifications for the Growatt. It should make a big difference. My second recommendation is that you collect data on just how much energy you use after 5pm until around 9a.m. the next day. That calculation is in kilowatt-hours (kWh). For off-grid living, the #1 thing on the punch list is always to minimize overnight usage. Also note that the Growatt's standby power consumption alone is going to be fairly high. I don't have the number off the top of my head but my assumption is around 60-100 Watts. It will drain the system even if you have no loads connected. -Matt

My EG4-LL battery communicates perfectly with the RJ45 cable connected to my Growatt 3000tl and set to Lithium. My battery SOC on the Growatt is now in % rather than voltage. I can set cutoff, switch to grid, and start charging battery all in percentages now. Love it. Signaturesolar has great videos and support.

Please what could be the solution to this problem?
@GrowingUpGoudie
@GrowingUpGoudie 2 года назад
Hey Jake, I have played and had many issues with settings. Float and bulk seems to best set to the same with Lifepo4 cells . Tail current will reduce the solar output after you hit the peak voltage setting. You can still obtain max SOC at a lower voltage than 3.65 volts per cell. If you set the voltage too high and you have cloud bursts you may have fault error (08) because the bus goes over 30.2 volts for a moment. Now that is with a 2000w array. I'm running with 27.6 for float and bulk on a 272 ah battery. One more thing to think of is you need to add your consumption to the to the watts going to the battery to know what your panels are producing and the Growatt is also consuming 50 watts. PV to battery is 390 plus the 50 load and the 50 of the Growatt. I've compared my BMS watts to the battery and the Growatt watts to battery and they were very similar so this is why I think you need to add the consumption plus the Growatt usage.

@GrowingUpGoudie
@GrowingUpGoudie 2 года назад
@@thinkfreelivefree6951 tail current is when your controller slowly reduces the current. It is similar to absorbing. Once you battery will only accept say 2 amps at the set voltage the charging process shuts down. That’s when you are in float. Your Growatt will need to see the voltage drop due to load before it starts to charge again.

One Question and Info for you. I am very experienced with Growatt,, US2 should only used if you Do Not Have BMS communications.. if you have BMS capable Litho Batteries that have the BMS boards , then you should Allow Growatt and BMS Litho Batteries work together.. If using US2 should then adjust using the 20%/80% ratios When using US2 you have to be careful as to the Rate of Charge. as this can over time shorten your Litho bat life. for that matter any type of battery.. Be Safe

Not looking at Settings for a moment, what does the Voltage read on the LCD? The only 48V settings in my User manual for this same unit, (Growatt 3000W/24V), are #s 19 and 20. I suspect that this Page in the manual was mistakenly taken from their 48V version, rather than the 24V version. I have those two settings set at 28.8V, recommended to my by the Battle Born Company.

Haven't got any loads so it just runs on it's own which shows 7 watts. My battery bank is 4800 watt hours, so why does cycle through charge states every 4 to 5 days? Is the unit using more than 7 watts? 7wh x24 hours is 168wh, times 5 days... nowhere near 4800watts. Is this normal? Thanx man

Hi. Thank you for watching and for your support. The inverter uses about 50 watts when turned on and about 2 watts when in standby mode. Hi there, since seeing your vid I switched over to USE and set my voltages to what you use. I have finally gotten the most wattage and current I have ever seen in to my batteries. But I did notice something in regards to the unit limiting power in. During my highest point of sunlight I did notice the unit limiting current and PV wattage. I guess when the batterys are full it goes into trickle mode or something of that nature. I have a freezer running full time on this and when it cycled on the unit let wattage and current to flow again to the batterys. Then when the freezer stopped the unit stopped charging the batterys again since they are full. So maybe this is normal? Sometimes I dont see any wattage or current coming in at all. Maybe this is all normal. Seems to be working ok though.

Hi Axle. You are correct. When you batteries are full and there is no demand of power by you loads the PV wattage will go down. If your loads suddenly require more power, your PV wattage should go up to cover your demand. I have a Growatt 3000K 24v and It's been running flawlessly for 1.5 years. @@redshedllc9054 Hi. You can adjust your low voltage cut off in setting 21, but I would recommend not to run your battery to zero. For lifepo4, I would not suggest going below 12% or you could damage your cells. Hope this helps.

@@redshedllc9054 Hi Jacob. With Lithium Iron Phosphate you are correct, you can run them down a lot more than AGM's and Lead Acid, but not to 0%, it will damage your cells. For example if you put a 24v battery bank together with 8 cells, you never want any of the cells to drop below 2.5 volts, that is considered to be below 10% of the battery's capacity. Hope this helps. Take care.

On Model# Growatt SPF 3000TL LVM-24P I use User 2 setting in #5. 05 Battery type US2 If “User-Defined 2” is selected, battery charge voltage and low DC cut-off voltage can be set up in program 19, 20 and 21. It is recommended to set to the same voltage in program 19 and 20(full charging voltage point of lithium battery). Thereaches this setting.

I only have questions and not answers. Can anyone help? I have not set up my GW 3000 24 yet. I am building my system. I have Twenty, 12 Volt, 1,200 Ah, AGM batteries. They are really high quality batteries and the manufacturer has very specific values for max amps, bulk, float, ...... and I want to set my Growatt to those exact settings once I bring the system live. Does anyone know if in the AGM setting if I can customize the settings for AGM so I can make them exactly as my battery manufacturer has specified? Thank You!

Hi Ben. Thank you for watching and for your question. According to the user manual, if you select USE, also means User-Defined you can set setting 19 which is bulk, setting 20 which is float and setting 21 which is the low DC cut off value. I do not believe that if you choose AGM that you will be able to adjust 19, 20 & 21. It states in the User manual that you can only change those values if you select User Defined or USE setting in option 5. I hope that helps. But I don't see any problem with you using the USE setting in option 5 for your AGM batteries because then you can select exactly those specific voltages as recommended by your manufacturer. At the end of the day, it is a charge profile that is adjustable to settable parameters. Hope that helps. Take care.

@@thinkfreelivefree6951 Thanks so very much. That is great news. I am in the process of building my system. My Growatt is still sealed in the box and I have been watching every good RU-vid on the GW I could find before opening mine up. I still don't have my big set of panels yet as I am still deciding which ones. I do have a small set (1,500 watts) of Renogys running grid-tie inverters and four of my batteries. I have them tied to a Pure Sine Wave inverter and run my entertainment system, so lights, and Frig. It is just with extension cords and "Bread Boarded" unitl I finalize my system and set up the GW.

@@alonzodesantis6989 Lead Head, 😂. Sounds cool Alonzo. I cannot speak for Ben, but I believe its a total of 1200Ah. As long as you keep your configuration of your battery @ 24 volts, I don't believe it matters how many Ampere hours it is, after all its just storage capacity.

Also if it doesn't need a float charge then why not just set it up at your max charge rate? I have my max charge set at 28.8 (battery manufacture says 29.2 is max) they also say in my battery documentation for my lith battery the 27.2 is float. So I have it set at that. So I dont think it is charging my battery to the fullest. I and going to try to set the float the same as the max 28.8 and see what happens. Oh and I am in USE mode. I have not tried the other mode yet.

Hey Woodknack, thank you for your contributions. We all appreciate knowing how everyone else is setting their Growatt's up. My concern with going to 28.8 is that if some of the cells are out of balance or becomes out of balance it would push some of the cells higher than 3.65 volts per cell and could degrade some of my cells. So I am trying to play it a bit safer by not charging them up all the way. 28.8 volts would be 3.6 volts per cell, I would be a bit nervous that some of my cells would go over 3.65 volts on the upper limit. Thanks for your questions and input.

@@thinkfreelivefree6951 Yes, I am running Ampere Time LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery 12V 100Ah with Built-in BMS( have two in series). Mine seems to fluctuate on wattage trough out the day. Im am sure I am not at the optimal angle for the sun. When I got to camp last weekend it showed the PV array pumping 761w into my controller. I thought that was pretty good considering it is a 800w array. I also have it setup with a generator that is remote start on and off from with in the camp so I can use both to charge the batteries. But for the most part solar has been keeping right up with it. I will know better when we get the camp finished and settle in for a week or more at a time.

on setting 10 you have 2 24v batteries in series or 2 12v batteries series to make 24v? I have the same system I put two 12v lith batteries together to make 1 24v 100amp hr battery. i have my setting #10 as 2 in series. I was wondering if I should just have it as 1 instead of two? whats the difference?

Hi, thank you for watching and for your comments. Setting 10 is not settable, I believe the growatt senses the configuration of your batteries once connected. For 24 volts it is 2 and 10. Meaning 2 12volt in series to make 24 volts. If it was 48 volts it would be 4 and 10. Hope that helps. Please consider subscribing if you found the content useful. Thanks.
