I'm growing canna from seed. They are just sprouting. What size container should I put the seedlings in? Should I put them in the pot I plan for them to stay in, or start small and transfer?
Rita, WOW, congratulations on your bravery and your skill. Starting cannas from seed is a challenge. I do not know the answer to your question. I have never started canna from seed. I would put them in 6-inch pots for this season and then transplant to a larger pot at the beginning of next season. Remember, I really do not know.
Hello Barb, this is Tony from Iowa, was wondering, I have a big beautiful canna in my south window, roughly 4 ft tall, but hasn't been flowering, no stems. Is there a way to fertilize and water so that I can keep it flowering or do I need to prune way down and start it over? I live in an apmt so planting outside isn't really an option.. Thank you and god bless
Tony, because you are growing your canna indoors, light may be an issue. Sometimes heavy feeding helps to mitigate this problem. Get some blossom booster fertilizer and feed your canna every time you water with a half strength solution of the fertilizer. I love Jack's Blossom Booster, but there are others available. Hope this helps. Also remember, plants eventually acclimate to the conditions where they are growing, and your canna, without fertilizing, may eventually bloom on its own, but not frequently.
Any I can find. Many stores carry a timed release blossom booster manufactured by MiracleGrow. If you can't find a timed release blossom booster, then just use a timed release fertilizer.
