Growing CARAMBOLA (star fruit) Time Lapse

i don't know what's more commonly used, Carambola or Star fruit. The leaves are light-sensitive so if you watch the video all the way to the end you can see the leaves moving, i think the plant is a bit confused with the constant light :)
I will keep this one going as well, so as long as i can keep it alive there will be another update video in a year.
"Averrhoa carambola is a species of tree in the family Oxalidaceae native to tropical Southeast Asia; it has a number of common names, including carambola, star fruit and five-corner. It is a small tree or shrub that grows 5 to 12 m (16 to 39 ft) tall, with rose to red-purple flowers. The flowers are small and bell-shaped, with five petals that have whitish edges. The flowers are often produced year round under tropical conditions. The tree is cultivated in tropical and semitropical regions for its edible fruits."

love this! I'm currently growing one too! But keep in mind, if you want fruit from it, you'll have to prune it now. That makes the trunk stronger and will force it to branch out :)

@sharaudramey9336 Год назад
Can you explain more about pruning starfruit. I have some I grew from seed that I believe are growing slow!
@mr.v3061
@mr.v3061 Год назад
@@sharaudramey9336 hey there :) I'm from Belgium so our climate is not ideal for it. But this video gives the plant THE MOST PERFECT condition to grow. 24/7 light, heat and water. So, this is very unrealistic for yours and mine. My seedlings grew much slower too. They grow best and fastest in spring / summer. Personally, for the first year i did not put them outside to also protect them from rain/wind/sun damage. They actually don't like wind. The second year you can try to put them outside in a place that gets sun, but try against a wall/area protected from some heavy wind. Pruning? Well, my seedlings grew straight up without branching out. They can grow as tall as a person without branching out, so that's a problem. So, check out the 90 days size of the plant. That's where i would prune the top 3 leaves. It will then branch out and make a stronger trunk. After you got 2 or 3 sidebranches with a decent size, also prune those ones to force out more. The goal is to make a strong base. I also lost some seedlings when i was experimenting. I've put them in a protected place in a garden house, but they died during the winter. i hope this was helpful :)
@mr.v3061
@mr.v3061 Год назад
@@sharaudramey9336 i checked out some vids on your channel and your tropical jungle garden is probably a great place for a starfruit. - i also keep mine in pots. Maybe if you live in a place with no freezing temperatures that you can put them in ground once they're older.

Seed harvesting tip: instead of cutting through the fruit to make a star, cut the ridges off, first. In other words, cut them off the long way, but not too deep. Then... ...you can start biting small bits off the end like you're eating a cucumber. You'll either notice the seed in the fruit, or you'll feel them in your mouth if you squish the soft fruit with your tongue.
