Your plants all look really healthy, Dani. I got a new variety yesterday, I’m not sure if you’ve seen that video yet, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived with loads of fruits on. I think I’ll have to go back to your rooting videos as I really want to propagate a few of these to grow at my new allotment next year 👍
I did see it it - I thought it looked so good (I hope my comment wasn't lost😬)! I always love it when fruit plants arrive in fruit - it's the best bonus. Those berries looked really dark, sort of what I'm expecting from the Mexican Mountain one I got from Jurassic Plants (unless it was just down to the lighting...). I look forward to seeing how yours taste when they're ripe. Best of luck with propagation. Now is probably the perfect time to take cuttings - I'll be doing just that today too!! It must be wonderful to have so much space to fill on that allotment!
They are looking lovely Dani. A lot of the specialist nurseries quote hardiness to -5c, probably to be safe, i know mine were all completely killed at -8c so I'll also protect the replacements if we see anything like that next winter. Your garden certainly looks well protected in that area 😁
Oh, that is interesting and makes sense after what we experienced last Winter. I am planning to plant the cuttings in a row to form a mini hedge, but might wait until Spring now, so I can keep them safe over Winter.
Thank you. I love growing different cultivars, especially of my favourite berry, which this has become😀 I got the Bella Berry from 3fatpigs.co.uk. It was a few years ago now, but couldn't recommend them more. The Flambeau was a little cheap one from amazon. They grow so quickly (apart from the super slow seed grown ones). Hope you find some🙂🙂
They’re like jewelries 😍😍😍 Sun really affects the colors, at least they’re still sweet. This’s the fruit I’ve never tasted before also. Hopefully one day!
I hope you get to too. They're so delicious, but the season is super short, so I'm rationing them😁😆 I just need to get all of my little cuttings productive so we can have lots!!
At the moment I just grow them for friends and family, but I would like to take more cuttings in the Spring so I can offer them to subscribers, so watch this space😁😄
Die Pflanzen sehen ja wirklich toll bei ihnen aus 👍. Ist es möglich vielleicht paar Stecklinge bei ihnen zu kaufen? Ich wohne in Deutschland und komme leider nicht an diese Sorten ran.
I really wish I could send you some. Maybe there will soon be a trade deal in place between the UK and the EU which will open the market up again. I do hope so. Hope you are well and Happy New Year!
Nice!! I bought 2 plants from a local catalog in early summer. They came in the mail and measured about 4 inches each. They have grown substantially in a short time. Measuring over 14 inches and getting bushier. One in a pot and the other I transplanted in the ground. How many years until they flower and fruit??
I think it really depends on whether they were grown from seed or cuttings. I have had some seed-grown ones for 2 years which have yet to flower, whereas the strongest of the cuttings I took from my bigger bushes last year flowered this year. Yours sound like they're doing really well. I hope they flower for you next Spring. The berries are definitely worth the wait!
Thank you. The amazing cropper is the aptly named 'Bella Berry'. I got it from 3fatpigs.co.uk The Mexican Mountain one was from Jurassic Plants. They always have so many interesting (but tiny), well priced plants.
They really don't like cold winds or drying out. I had one in a super sunny spot which was thriving, while its sibling (a different cultivar) was drying out and I realised that I had left the happy one in double pots. The decorative outer pot had no drainage holes and it was full of water and roots. They aren't supposed to like having wet feet, but mine certainly do. Drying cold winds also nearly killed my in-ground one this Winter, so I had to dig it up and put it back in a pot so it could be placed in a warm spot which is protected from cold winds. It is looking so much better now. I also feed them with a seaweed feed. Hope that helps.
