Growing grass is not difficult and in this video I show you a step by step plan on when to see the lawn in fall and how to thicken it up using the power or nature and your existing lawn to help.
Here is the step-by-step seeding guide that is free for immediate download - lines up with this video:
drive.google.com/file/d/1-HW3...
Stuff we used:
Starter Fert - next to irrigation - the most important element:
thelawncarenut.com/collection...
Thrower Down!
Good quality grass seed:
thelawncarenut.com/collection...
Air8 Liquid Aeration - Very Important to soften soil:
thelawncarenut.com/collection...
Hydretain helps with moisture and germination - use the leftover you have next summer:
thelawncarenut.com/collection...
Pre-Emergent weed control - this also killed MOST of the existing weeds after we sprayed and that is an added bonus:
thelawncarenut.com/collection...
4 Gallon Packpack Sprayer with a powerful pump (used in video):

I would like to say " Thank You " because after watching many of your videos, I went out and busted my but to follow your instructions and now my yard looks like something out of a magazine. I have all my neighbors walking by commenting on how beautiful my yard is compared to all the other yards in my neighborhood with dead grass. I feel like a proud Peacock thanks to you! You have an amazing way of explaining everything that makes a person want to listen to every word you say. Again, Thank You! Lawn Care Nut.

Lot's of people over think lawncare for sure, Depending on where you live (NE here) a lawn needs water, food ( fertilizer) and seed to fill in bare areas. If you've got some moss, lime your lawn. Keep up with the weeds and allow your grass to grow it its proper height (3.5-4.5 with fescue which everyone has here) to help smother ground cover weeds, and spray or pull the rest when you see them. Your local Depart of Agriculture will usually have resources for what fertilizers to use and when, or just buy an all rounder. I personally would recommend using organics as sadly most lawns are missing organic material to sustain healthy soil. Mulch your blades back into the lawn since that's where the fertilizer goes and you're off to the races

I sprayed glyphosate 2 days before the city enacted the watering restrictions, and those rains you mentioned made my top soil delivery to heavy to dump. Then, low and behold, the Bermuda grass guy, LCN drops a cool season grass video...in my city? Awesome!

Hey Allyn, question. I was looking to superseed or do exactly what this video described later this month. I planted mostly tall fescue so will be planting that again but there's a lot of barley grass in my neighborhood. I live at the end of the street in a cul-de-sac so stuff just comes down the street all the time and I can't keep the barley grass from mixing with the fescue. Any ideas or just get over it? I'd have to burn the yard and reseed to get rid of it but already did that last year and it just comes back.

You are the greatest! After purchasing a new home, the sod the builders laid did not root to this southern red clay. It also came with a bunch of weeds in it and brown spots starting popping up. After watching your videos, I have applied your instructions, recommendations, tips, and tricks. I must say my lawn is thicker than everyone else's. Now that we are in September going into the fall, what do you recommend for preparing your lawn for the spring/summer for bermudagrass? Can I apply these same techniques from this video for bermudagrass?
@heavymechanic2
@heavymechanic2 2 года назад
We bought or home four years ago and the cool season grass was neglected in very poor condition. We cut down some pine trees and the grass would not grow. Last summer, I used a towable thatch rake and overseeded with tall fescue. There was a big change by throwing down extra seed in the worst areas.. This year in August, I sprayed the weeds, added 1/4lb tripple-12 fertilizer, waited 3-4 weeks, overseeded again over the entire property at 1/3 the bag rate to help improve the existing lawn.. About Bermuda, its a little invasive, keep up with the fertilizer, insect control and your thick lawn should thrive.

Hey Allyn! Thank you so much for putting together this video. I'm trying to seed a lawn from scratch. I have a recently graded bare backyard, I have a creek on one side and a wooded lot on the other, and I deal with constantly invading weeds. I also have dogs. I figured I'd best go with "the alpha of all grasstypes"... am I on the right track with bermuda? I'm in north Georgia, and my average soil temp is around 77 degrees this week. Since it has been a few weeks from the time I had the lawn graded, and I've been out of town, I've had some weeds invade. Is there a certain broadleaf weed killer that I can spray that won't harm my seed? I notice the Meso doesn't list bermuda. Thanks! Have a happy Labor Day!
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 2 года назад
THis is a tough one - mainly because it's late in the season for bermuda seed since the days are getting shorter and shorter. And it sounds like you may have some shade which coupled with dog traffic is going to be hard on the bermuda. I'd be prepared to reseed next spring and hope for the best. For weeds, I would spot spray only with Celsius, use surfactant.

Hi from Palm Harbor, It was summer that day. . . Seed cover, it's like Gremlins watch out for the water ... spreads out when it gets wet. Talk about instant gratification! Nice job Allyn

I hit your program hard in 2019 and 2020 after I found it. This year I’ve barely mowed once every 2 weeks with the birth of our twins. Let’s see if I can’t resurrect it with a little encouragement and a few tips from Mr. LCN

My lawn has been perfect all this year up until the point when I had to travel to Europe for 3 weeks so I hired a mowing company to mow my lawn. From August 1 to Ausugst 25 they mowed my lawn 4 times and they managed to destroy it. They were mowing it when it was actually raining so 1) their zero-turn mowers' tires were skidding thus ripping my lawn; 2) their tires bent down the grass blades so my lawn looked like a Six Pistols concert (mohawks); 3) their mowers couldn't mulch all this wet soaking grass, so they were dumping chunks of unmulched grass on my lawn and these dumps rotted the lawn and created a bunch of yeallow spots. This video is as helpful as it gets to bring my lawn back to life. Thank you Allyn.

I usually set my Scotts rotary spreader at 3.5 for reseeding. I seed like you do - throwing some seed on bare spots. I lime at a 5.0 setting and drop Milo or other fert at the same rate.
