Growing LEMON TREE Time Lapse

Obviously this is not a seed to fruit video :D although that would be cool. This was actually my third time trying this, the first two times the plant started to loose all its leaves and died after a while. I fixed it by buying proper soil "Mediterranean Plants and Palm Soil" and citrus tree fertilizer that i gave to it regularly.

Yeah, until I started gardening I didn't realize that citrus trees are large shrubs! Apparently the fruit towards the bottom is the sweetest, so I've started letting my trunks grow some low branches. We'll see!

Citrus trees actually dont grow like a conventional tree. They grow a little bit "like they want". To actually get a "tree", you have to regularily remove the saplings from the bottom area.

If Darwin could have seen the mindblowing complexity happening inside of one plant cell, he would have thrown his work away. I did sprinkle some grounded coffee fertilser on it a few days ago maybe that helped it?

What growing medium do you use? Your stuff grows SO much faster than mine. Also how are you watering it every few days? Do you just very lightly water it or are you saturating it?
@エルフェンリート-l3i
@エルフェンリート-l3i 2 года назад
Lemons like slightly acidic soil, 5.7 to 6.0 pH is perfect. You can achieve this by watering them with black or green tea every 2-4 weeks and additionally laying the used tea leaves on top of the soil, this will act as a slowly releasing fertilizer (tea leaves are nitrogen bombs and also have a bit of potassium and phosphorus). Citruses especially need lots of Potassium and Iron, you can get them from ground organic banana peels. Non-organics have it, too, but bring pesticides along with them which cancels all the benefits out. There are also citrus soils and fertilizers that do all this work for you, just remember to use them regularly. Water the lemon tree every two days once it has successfully germinated into a plant, during the hottest of mid-summer every day and give them all the sun you can get. Water it more lightly during winter, once or twice a week is fine, just make sure the top most layer of the soil looks "drained and dry", stick your finger in one inch to be entirely sure. Lastly, you want to make sure to not drop unter 21° C or 70° F during the night time and generally take it inside on very hot days (32°C/90°F and above). During winter, 5 to 12 °C is perfect, they need this to build up resistance. This is where many people fail to grow lemons, because they think lemons always need all the warmth they can get during the whole year and while this is true for some asian varieties, the more popular and hardy Meyer's Lemon likes some chills during the winters. Happy Growing 🍋 :)

Meanwhile growing from seed will take longer (max 10 years) to fruit, and you won't know what type of lemon it will be (could be big, medium, small, extremely sweet, extremely sour, dull etc)

Trees grown from seed need to be in soil outdoors and will take probably six years to produce fruit in the right climate and will get pretty tall and large in the process. If you want lemons on your windowsill get a meyer lemon tree grown from a cutting as these will produce fruit almost immediately and can live happily in a container. The tree in this video will never produce fruit in that pot.
