I wasn't sure about a peach tree but wow you convinced me!! I have a very small yard here in central FL but knowing you can maintain it to a reasonable size is wonderful to know! I love peaches 🍑💕
Great video, my Prince Peach is 2 yrs old but it just doesn't seem to want to grow much, I have 2 small branches on it and that is it. I live in central Fl which is now zone 10a.
Hello and thank you for watching! Was it a bare root tree when you planted it? We struggled with getting any bare root trees to thrive after planting. Does your tree get full sun, 6-8 hours a day? That is vital for these types of fruit trees. Is the tree being grown in a lawn? Grass can compete with your young tree for nutrients, so that is something to keep in mind. You are welcome to send me pictures of your tree to peacefulbirdgarden@gmail.com and I would be happy to take a look and give better recommendations. ☺
Thank you for this video. I have a Florida Prince, 3 years old, in Orlando. This is the first year it produced and the first peaches were wonderful! But now, verticually every peach has bugs in them. I started covering the peaches in organza bags, but that isn’t helping. Do you have any tips for avoiding this bug issue? I look forward to your pruning video. I let my tree get too tall. 🍑
Hello and thank you so much for watching! We have also covered ours in the past to discourage the squirrels. We found nylon fruit protection bags online and they seemed to work pretty well. We have also had issues with fruit flies getting to the fruit, but for us that usually doesn't start until the fruit begins to ripen. We covered ours last year when they were still the size of almonds and the fruit flies did not get the covered peaches. This year we did not cover our fruit at all and the last dozen or so that we picked all had evidence of fruit fly damage. Bagging them early and perhaps picking them a bit early may help with the bugs. I will include information on the bags we use in our pruning video, but I believe we found them on Amazon. Good luck and I hope that was helpful.
I'm getting a FlordaPrince this year. I already have the FlordaKing, but looking to be able to harvest peaches over a longer time. The FlordaKing gave up its entire harvest to me end of April/first two weeks of May, and is a lovely tree. I'm also adding Red Baron for beauty and to get a August harvest. I'm in FL 9A and have planted my entire fruit forest from Willis Orchard Online. I highly recommend their trees.
Hello there and thank you for watching! How wonderful to have several varieties. Thank you so much for the resource. I have heard of Willis Orchard but have yet to order anything from their website.
I just bought a tropic sweet peach tree and haven’t planted it yet. I live in 10a in Sarasota county. We only got 86 chill hours last year so you think we will still be able to get peaches next year? Tropic Sweets require 100-200 chill hours.
Hello friends in Sarasota county! I say give it a go. We had very few chill hours last year as well and had an abundance of peaches. Our Florida prince has a requirement of 150 chill hours according to UF, but our tree produced with less than 50. Good luck and thank you so much for watching!
