Having been a Jehovahs Witness all my life until a few years ago, I can believe Peter Andre regarding books in their house. I know some families that took the words given from the platform to the extreme, and others were lax. Some families banned TV and almost all music apart from Kingdom melodies and allowed probably only Classical, Country and Western and Jazz. Whereas some allowed their kids to hang posters of their favourite popstars on the wall. Anyway the point most do not see in this interview is that the JW message appeals to people who are going through stuff in their lives. In his case he felt like an outsider in Australia, being Greek and dark haired among blonde people. For others its the loss of a loved one, the break up of a marriage or something traumatic like civil war in their land which makes them seek comfort and hope of something better in the future.(Could this possibly be the reason why most Witnesses are now found in the 3rd World countries?) They are then love bombed at the Kingdom Hall and made to believe in a worldwide association of Brothers and sisters ... that is until you stop believing in their ever changing doctrines. Once you start questioning or leave the organisation you are shunned and viewed as dead. Their love is conditional

@@justmadeit2 I just couldnt knock on people's doors and tell them that Jesus has been around since 1914 , when I didnt believe that anymore. Then there were the numerous court cases regarding child abuse which they tried to hide. I questioned an Elder as i read about it , but was told not to read anything about JWs in the press or internet. I was about to disassociate myself but then got DF'd which at the time I thought was better as disassociating is apparently a sin against the Holy Spirit. I was still believing most of their teachings by then . However, when I read 'Crisis Of Conscious' by Ray Franz and 'Apocalypse Delayed' by James Patterson and my eyes opened and I never went back.

@@justmadeit2You didn’t ask me, but you kinda did❤😂. I left at age 21 because of an accumulation of infractions of course, but the last straw was reinstating my disfellowshipped status…NOT solely based on having a child at 18 out of wedlock…but that I couldn’t conform nor leave my child’s father (at the time). My physical departure occurred about 3 years later. I was reinstated with ‘privileges’ to preach the good news incessantly to strangers in door to door field service etc yet I could NOT comment at the meetings. This idiocy triggered me in a way that allowed me to physically leave. I actually honor my younger self who had a modicum of sense to recognize the cognitive dissonance enough to physically leave this religious doomsday cult , however I suffer from much unresolved angst from being in a nuclear family still involved with this doomsday cult that simply is judgmental and never apologizing. I stopped dealing with them outside of I need to be there family issues. Please note how I keep talking about physical departure from a doomsday cult. This is because it took me about 10 more years to truly BEGIN to wake up! I’m now 49 and the breakdown that occurred in my 30’s was darn near epic….lol. Now I have anger. Not to hurt anyone, but to lobby against absolute religion. Absolute is the key word you religious folk…relax

Lol. He probably read a lot as a child. But they were bible based publications / story books. Possibly his parents were on the strict side too, as maby JW families buy 'normal' story books for children, though they might take extra care regarding the content. Was lovely that he still respects the faith. I can relate as I also was brought up as a JW but no longer follow it myself.

I think respecting his parents and the relationship with them is important to him. We also know that there are zealous JWs and wishy washy ones. There are some who although strong in the faith are balanced in the viewpoints and equally are respectful to other peoples choices and lifestyles and then there are other JWs who would cut you off for not agreeing with them. If you leave the organisation yet still remain in a good relationship with your family then you are one of the lucky ones. I have a good relationship with my mum but I have friends who were cut off from their families. Many JWs offer conditional love only ( well actually that’s not love- it’s control).

Well, I've personally heard talks in Kingdom Hall, where we were told not to study non Organisation literature. In fact, we were strongly recommended not to be influenced by "worldly" books, music and TV etc. Many JWs, do not have a TV or read newspapers etc. JWs also encourage people not to go to college and university too. @@BestBuddies. JW Organisation "The article “Slave For Jehovah”, in the October 2015 issue of Watchtower magazine, clearly shows the actual position of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It says in part: “Rather than acquiring secular degrees and titles after their names, true Christians focus on obtaining “letters of recommendation” by engaging as fully as possible in the field ministry.” This is a straw man argument against college and higher education. It reduces all the benefits and reasons to attend college to “secular degrees and “titles”, a gross oversimplification. Then it states that “real Christians” choose not to attend, implying that anyone who disobeys this direction is not a Christian at all."

"2005 the October 1st, 2005 Watchtower article entitled “Parents-What Future Do You Want for Your Children?”, cautions parents against the imagined moral risks of allowing their children to get a college education. It asks the question, “Is the risk involved worth whatever benefit the young ones may receive? And most important, what are the young ones learning about things that should come first in their life?” These questions are not explicitly answered but asked in such a way to make the answer clear, parents should not allow their children to receive a college education. Higher education and dating have even been likened to the abuse of drugs".

People deserve respect. Ideas and worldviews do not. JW is an elitist religion that gives people a completely narcissistic worldview. "Worldly" people are denigrated as unworthy of close association. Other religious communities are slandered as evil and under the control of the devil. Misogyny and homophobia runs rampant. Dissent or debate over biblical interpretations is not permitted. There is a rigid, controlling environment where even minor sins have to be investigated and condemned by human leaders. And serious and abusive behavior is all wrapped up under the umbrella of sin. People are not supported when they leave abusive marriages and child m*lesters are not permanently removed from the congregation or reported to law enforcement in any jurisdiction that doesn't have mandatory reporting for clergy or religious leaders. These ideas and practices are not worthy of respect and you are not a victim of bias or hatred when someone challenges them in your presence.

As an ex jehovah witness I can testify that he would not have been allowed to read "worldly" books - books not churned out by the organisation. What he would have been reading is My Book of Horror Stories actually named My Book of Bible Stories and there has been many a discussion from psychologists with ex members looking at it how the imagery in these books are awful for a developing brain. For example, the flood. The picture clearly shows rising flood waters with a mother clutching to a little baby. Not surprising seeing as one of the governing body members of the organisation recently came out and said babies are enemies of god. Shocked yet? That's not even scratching the surface of what the damage this religious group does to the developing minds and bodies of children. Recently, Norway stopped government funding towards the group for allowing children to be baptised and then shunned if they dare steer away from the religious groups rules. I can see Pete is reserved on wanting to really let loose on his life as a JW kid. That's probably because he is one of the lucky few who actually have a relationship with his "still in" family and is terrified of being critical as he will lose his family - mandated by the organisation. I myself have been up in front of the Scottish Government blowing the whistle and bringing a petition to investigate religious organisations into their response on CSA. PE1905. The organisation harms people within it and continues to harm others who have left it. But the lovely witnesses you will see on street corners would not dare hear of it passing it off as apostate lies.

@@trevorariza9550 To be fair magic was a bit more of a point of contention, but a lot of it was viewed as a 'conscience' matter. I do disagree that most books for kids involve magic though. I could have just been lucky in my situations, but by and large in my experience the restrictions weren't quite like that. There were some who were stricter than others, but they were the odd ones out in my experience. I agree with what you're saying about the 'videos talking in a negative light', I've always remembered that more in the light of videos talking about things that are just blatant lies (I don't mean in a "oh this couldn't possibly be true! Woe is me! I mean in a 'this is literally just factually wrong'.) But again, different experiences I guess (though I think 'getting in trouble for being on RU-vid' is a little reductive. @@FrozenWillow1980 I definitely didn't have it 'great'. Few different congregations in different sections of England, though far more recent than your experiences. I do think some of this could come down to the world being a different place. I left on 2020, a lot has changed in those 21 years between you and me. Attitudes have changed, some things are more lax etc etc. But I digress. I didn't say you were the only one to experience this. Everyone is human, so as with any company, religion or group of people, there will be humans who suck. But I do believe saying the majority suck may be unfair. I don't appreciate you accusing me of gaslighting though. I just offered my opinion from my personal experience, then stated how I didn't want to argue. I don't think that's close to gaslighting? But anyway, let's move past that. With CS abusers (I assume that stands for child s*xual abusers), ultimately those types of people are drawn to positions of power, teachers, priests etc etc. I wouldn't say that is something bad to say about the religion, more the people that can be inside it (who can most certainly be horrible people who deserve no pleasantries in life). I think 'mandated' is probably...a bit of a stretch? If you said complaisancy then maybe (though I can't say I know any personally), but the idea that the body are telling elders to diddle to their heart's content just seems bizzare (unless I got the wrong end of the stick in what you were saying, in which case I apologise.) But no need to apologise for bursting my bubble, there was no bubble to burst in the first place

Actually it’s a conscious decision if you choose to have a transplant or not my sister who was baptised sister gave one of her kidneys to her husband that was not in the faith (they were married before my sister got baptised) it was a bloodless operation which many top surgeons will agree to do these days with success the reason we abstain from blood is for safety reasons from catching all sorts of diseases plus the bible says at to abstain from using blood at Acts 15: 29 my other sister whom is not a Jehovah witness got hepatitis from having a blood transfusion and she wishes she didn’t but we are there to help her because she gets really poorly

JESUS CHRIST is the ONLY TRUE GOD

Jehovah is not God's name The following proves what his name really is. The following is Scriptural proof who Jesus really is and that He is much more than just the Son of God. Paul said in Galatians 1:12 that he was not taught by any man but was taught by Jesus himself which means whatever Paul said was what Jesus told him to say. Paul said in 1 Timothy 3:16,"AND WITHOUT CONTROVERSY GREAT IS THE MYSTERY OF GODLINESS, GOD was manifest in the FLESH (Jesus), justified in the SPIRIT, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory." Paul said in 2 Corinthians 3:17,"Now the LORD IS THAT SPIRIT, and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty." Jesus is speaking in Revelation 2:7,"He that has an ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT says to the churches...." And Paul said in Ephesians 4:4, "For there is one body, ONE SPIRIT....verse 5 ONE LORD, ONE Faith and ONE BAPTISM." Paul said in Colossians 2:8-10,"Beware lest any man fool you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 FOR IN HIM DWELLS ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD BODILY." Jesus is not just part of the Godhead - Jesus IS the Godhead. Paul said in Hebrews 1:8,"But unto the SON he said, Thy throne O GOD is forever and ever...." Jesus said in Revelation 21:6-7,"And he said unto me (John) it is done, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I (Jesus) will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of life freely. 7 He that overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his GOD, and he shall be my SON." Paul said in Titus 2:13, "Looking for that blessed hope, and glorious appearance of the great GOD and our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST." 1 John 5:20,"And we know that the SON of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his SON Jesus Christ, THIS IS THE TRUE GOD, AND ETERNAL LIFE." Isaiah 9:6,"For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son (Jesus) is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, ..." Jesus said in Revelation 1:8, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, which is, which was, and is to come, THE ALMIGHTY." Jesus said in Revelation 2:7, "He that has an ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT says unto the Churches....." Jesus said in Mark 16:16, "He that believes and is BAPTIZED shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be damned." Jesus addressed what damned means in Luke 16:19-31, Matthew 13:42, Matthew 25:41, Mark 9:45-46, Revelation 20:15, and Revelation 21:8. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and teach all nations BAPTIZING them in the name (SINGULAR name and not names) OF the Father, and OF the Son, and OF the Holy Ghost." Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are titles and not names. Every time Jesus disciples baptized anyone in water they invoked Jesus name at baptism which is Acts 2:38, Acts 8:14, Acts 8:38, Acts 9:18, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 16:15, Acts 16:33, Acts 18:7, Acts 18:8, Acts 19:3-5, and Acts 22:16. Peter said in Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is NONE OTHER NAME under heaven given among men whereby we must be SAVED." Some say the thief on the cross next to Jesus was not Baptized yet Jesus told him he would be with him that day in Paradise. Jesus had not yet given the COMMANDMENT to be Baptized in His Name until after he rose from the dead and just before he ascended into heaven. The thief or anyone else could not have been Baptized in His Name because they did not know about it. There is not one scripture that says a person receives the Holy Ghost just because they are a believer. Acts 19:1-5 is a good example. If you are convinced you need to get Baptized in water in Jesus name and get Baptized with the Holy Ghost - which is addressed in Acts 2:4 (Pentecost), Acts 8:17, Acts 9:18, Acts 10:44-48, and Acts 19:3-5. Do a search, type in "United Pentecostal Church International", slightly scroll down to just below the red box, and type in your zip code. Then a screen will show a Church nearest you that will do that. If you do the above you will be making SURE your name is written in the Lamb's Book Of Life. Jesus said in John 10:27,"My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
