I remember I had a friend who may not have been conventionally attractive. It's interesting because I didn't notice it then. When you like someone, you don't notice those things. I tried to understand where his problem was and why others didn't give him any chances that I did. I guess knowing someone since grade school makes you face blind. Not anymore.

I want to share my experience as an ugly person in the school time. I don't really consider myself ugly, but most of the other people often see me as a creep and avoid me. When I was in school, I was quite nice and often helped other students. However, the girls didn't want to be friends with me. But when they needed help with schoolwork, I always helped them and then they avoided me again, until now I realized that I was being used. The boys were no better, they made fun of and bullied my appearance all year long, making me the class clown. I had very few friends and most of them were deformed or weirdos in class, at least they didn't treat me like the others. I also had a worst enemy, he was the most outstanding and attractive kid but he acted like an asshole, but he was still loved by the girls and teachers. I don't know if it's different where you live but that's my past story where I live. I learned one thing even if you're mean but handsome people will still praise you, even if you're ugly but kind still no one will care about you.

I'm not sure how it is now, but I feel like when I was a kid in the 90s and 2000s young people were not as superficial or shallow? I remember having guy friends who were not physically attractive but who had hot/attractive girlfriends. I don't know how it is now for young guys today, but this insecurity wasn't there. Maybe it's also the internet. A lot of young people seem to be obsessed over things like looks maxing in the media and online. People didn't seem as lookist as they are today. When I was a teen and a young man, there were attractive couples in the media of course, but there was also the trope of not so attractive dude with a hot girlfriend. Also, we didn't really have online dating. I haven't actually been on an online date, but I do have profiles on some of the apps. That said, I think that online dating is really bad for society because it encourages people to be superficial and it also commodifies and gamifies the whole dating process which should really be a social activity driven by desire for human connection and attraction. I dunno. Maybe people who are experiencing these kinds of isolating mindsets and self-esteem should step away from the internet, social media, and dating apps because I think they give you a skewed view of human interaction. I'm saying this as someone who is introverted and notices this trend in myself. the only difference is that in my youth, I did have a window where I experienced life without the added pressures of the things I mentioned previously. I think it is still possible to live a more connected life today, but people are more likely to lack the skill sets to do so than before, and so one has to actively go about learning these skills on their own. It's tough but it can be done.

The most annoying part is when they're treated badly by everyone and when they express their struggles of not being attractive, people think it's all in their head and gaslight them with unhelpful advice. It's a tragedy. They say "Beautiful on the inside", in order to avoid the obvious truth, what really matters. The truth is, it's how you look that determines how your personality is received. It's an unfortunate, cruel truth, that being born a conventionally unattractive person automatically puts you at a disadvantage. Growing up being someone else's punching bag to increase their value in the social hierarchy, being told false lies. The people don't want to come off as shallow, or do something that can negatively impact their PR score in whatever social hierarchy they're apart of. Giving false hope to someone who never had any in the first place is a cruel joke. "Beautiful on the inside" is just something these people tell to avoid a topic that THEY feel deeply uncomfortable about. Someone who's unattractive being in these people's presence makes them uncomfortable, which then makes them see you in an awkward, negative light. The truth is, Nathan never had a chance. No matter how hard he tries, there are simply some things that Nathan will never be able to do or achieve, simply because he drew the short straw. You see all these movies or shows about "the underdog", a story about going from "nothing" to something. But the thing about these characters is that they had the potential to be great from the start, it just needed to be realized. But what about someone like Nathan? Someone who never had the potential or hope in the first place? It's tough to write a character like this because it forces people to realize the unfortunate truth of reality, that REALITY IS NOT FAIR. And because reality isn't fair, these people constantly try to reaffirm their position that they got to where they are because of their own efforts and not because life didn't give them as shitty as a hand as others. They falsely delude themselves in order to avoid seeing the other POV of what life could have been like had they been given the wrong combination of genes. For people like Nathan, it's not about Perseverance, because you have to persevere for something, a shining hope, something to cling to, an expectation, but for Nathan, that's not the case. It's about Endurance. Enduring a pain that many people will never truly know about. They can try and understand, or feel a shred of sympathy or empathy, or simply partake in schadenfreude, but there will always be a gap between people like Nathan and normal society. Reality is often viewed in terms of filters, filters that have been imposed on the person by their life experiences, and how reality has treated them. Nathan has a lot of time to think, to introspect, and this is because the only thing that awaits Nathan in the external world is nothing but false truths, awkward interactions, and the cold truth about life. Nathan then starts to view life through a negative filter, that anyone in his position would have eventually developed. You could say, "just try to change your mindset", "just be positive bro", or "just put yourself out there", but all those years of being tormented by reality when they were a kid, the time when your worldview is forming, will forever leave a permanent scar on the psyche. Reality is perceived subjectively, so is Nathan's view correct? Yes and No. It's just one of many interpretations, a path, but it's a path that no person should have to walk. Being ridiculed, avoided, tormented, having a body and mouth but no voice or presence. You just sort of "disappear", a walking anomaly. Only ever being acknowledged for the one thing that you can never change, it's a curse. Positivity just ends up being negative, and Negativity ends up being the interpretation, the reality of the situation. It's a sad, dark, and lonely story that's being told, but one that needs to be said.

I think the most relatable part of this is being bitter towards everyone else because they have something you just can't get. The fact that you are less valuable just because of the way you look. Having nobody be attracted to you means if you're naturally shy you lose all social skills and withdraw. With this, seeing normal looking people enjoy themselves pisses you off. You dont want to be in any pictures or even see your own reflection. You just don't have a sense of belonging. Especially when you do everything you can to try to at least fit some semblance of the beauty standard. Hopelessness turned into hate basically.

The best thing about being not attractive is that is gets more easy with time, in my youth no girl ever approached me or even considered to give an answer. Now that i am reaching my 30´s i finally understood that girls(for the most part) are shallow and only wishes to have the best of guys. So even when i talk to girls nowadays i feel much more relaxed because i know that they will never flirt with me or even giving me false hope. I will definitely die alone, still i have my friends and family so i feel blessed in that regard. There are no-one for me, and to be honest i don't think that everyone has a chance of romance(especially if you are a man) so trust me guys, with time you will redirect your attentions somewhere else. I don't even want to use the word "Nice guy", but you know what? Fuck you. I was a good person. I treated people with respect; I never made fun of people; and if someone asked me for help, I would if I could. since high school, I started to get this feeling that everything I say or did was always taken in the worst way possible. People never give me the benefit of the doubt. I started to overthink every interaction and, when possible, try not to speak for fear of saying the wrong thing. I grew up seeing my friends just go in and out of relations as if it were something normal to them. while for me it has always field like an impossible dream. They didn't have to "Improve, bra", "go to the gym, bra", "learn to talk to women, bra", "work on your personality, bra". People just wanted to be around them. What really got me bitter over time was my sister from my mother side. Unlike me, she won the genetic lottery. Is insane how much my dad F*** me over in the looks department...... Back them she was a total B to everything and everyone. , But guess what,She always has friends, boyfriends, and people around, while I was almost alone. One day I even broke down crying in my break from work cuz I truly didn't underhanded what was I doing wrong. it was almost as if I had The Plague from in the dark ages. At best people pity you, at worst they almost have a irrational hate to you. It's the hypocrisy that gets to me. Sure, some people are born with good genetics and some with bad, and that's just life. But we pretend like you just need to act differently, talk differently, make more money, work out more. I am basically Nathan. Well kinda because i accepted my fate while he still has hopes and dreams. After 40 years of being ugly i learned a lot about people and how shallow and dumb they are.
