"He is the master of ROC, but I am the Master of Warcraft" Jesus Grubby, you don't have to cook him this hard. It's hot in here... Jokes aside😃, great game, half an hour like it's nothing!
Funnier when you think that Grubby still played tournaments such as WCG 2003, which were in RoC setting despite TFT being out at the time. Though I cannot blame him since not many people played TFT at the very beginning and it had only released for like a month so it was still a bit random.
its so obvious. they want to feel like theyre good. then they get bodied by somebody who hasnt played for 10 years and they say "OH IM NOT AT MY BEST" This is the exact personality of somebody who just wants to be #1 with no work at all. No innovation in 10 years. Just rolls over and dies and makes excuses. @@nikolablagojevic253
@@nikolablagojevic253 its the memories and his attachment to the certain game. Maybe emotionally where he finds comfort when playing at his times of low or some memorable past that he never forgets.
@nikolablagojevic253 i much preferred ROC to TFT but I mostly played 2v2 and 3v3 and unfortunately there is no more team ROC and very little 1v1 ROC anymore. I'm mad reforged didn't keep ROC multiplayer. Only W3C but very little base there
At the beginning of the game, he was telling: "I wanted to play you at _my best."_ :( That ship has long sailed my dude, but better late than never. Thanks Grubz, was nice to remember that days, and feeling that we're playing the best games in the world, made by the best developer
wait, what do you mean: *"That ship has long sailed my dude, but better late than never."* ?? Do you *KNOW* him personally and can thus testify that he was MUCH better *AGES* ago ? :O .
@@kurzackd I doubt it. I can personally tell you he (booster) was pretty bad 10 years ago and he was super active back then and ranked somewhere in the top 10 of ROC ladder because nearly the entire community played the same mass creep style with no understanding of micro, positioning or scouting expansions; fast forward to 2023 and you can still see those areas being a weakness for him. Grubby is on a whole other level. His first ROC game in such a long time that he had forgotten most of the basic mechanics and wins anyway .
So many things can be said about this game, but in short it really just highlights Grubby's elite level and understanding of the game. He beat the guy who played ROC non-stop years without even remembering the basics of ROC mechanics, such as what's sold in shops or that you cannot web a zeppelin, etc. Just amazing, bravo Grubby.
More realisticly the interpretation is that, for better or worse, RTS games are greatly about player speed (APM). A lot of "knowledge about the game" can be countered by just being faster. Grubby was very fast to recognize the differences between ROC and standard TFT too. For example, realising that he can't buy zep with units costed him like 1.5-2 sec, if that happens with someone else it could take 10-20 sec to register and being acted upon. As I said, we like it or not the genre coming down to quick hands and quick decision making.
@@CraftyF0X it only took him a few seconds to realise, sure, but the actual time he used to employ the strategy that wasn't possible was far longer. Grubby's 150 apm compared to someone else's 60 doesn't really matter in this instance either: Grubby's banshees were out of the picture for about a minute longer than they needed to be. That Grubby can click faster doesn't factor into the decision making about what clicks to do, which I think is the point that you were actually making: He has over a decade of experience in this game, so he was able to quickly register and remember what was happening.
More realistically its like a strong foreign player who played original starcraft 1 for years playing a korean broodwar pro on vanilla original starcraft 1. Yeah there are differences but wouldnt come close to bridging the mile wide skill gap
It's funny how with only 3 heroes for each race there's only 6 different variations of heroes you can have (dk1st/lich2nd/DL3rd vs lich1st/DK2nd/DL3rd). Meanwhile in TFT there are 12 different heroes each race can chose from which increases the amount of variations from 6 to a staggering 1320.
Not exactly. Absences of 2nd or 3rd herp is also a choice so 15 options = (3 + 6 + 6) if orders of picking matters. If order doesn't matter for TFT selecting of 3 from 12 without repetitions gives only 220 options. In this regard, MOBAs has ultimate power with around 150_000_000_000_000 combinations (150 Terracombinations) for current DOTA2 hero pool
@@uaua-qm2gp the order you pick your heroes definitely matters a lot because WC3 isnt just a bunch of decisions being made in a vacuum or singular point in time, it is a game of imperfect information that happens over a period of time
I loved roc. No one ever believes me, but I beat the #1 guy on the ladder back in the day. I was the minimum level required to be able to match up with him. I think I was level 12, he was level 17, something like that. Nit2 was his name. His strat was to rush to priest/sorc. I fast expanded with footmen, creeped around the map a bit, found him, and killed his base just as his first priests and sorceresses were popping out. You don't know how happy I was to win. I still congratulate myself 20 years later, haha. Everyone on ladder was night elf, and it was so hard to beat hemon hunter with huntresses rush. Felt super good to win that matchup too.
This type of content brings me back a lot of years back... Back to times of 4K, Spirit Moon, Tod, and of course one of the greatest, Mr Grubby. Thank you dude, brings back nostalgia of some... better times. Damn, we are getting older... GGWP Grubby.
The Undead in RoC always felt incomplete to me, which is why I struggled so much to find the best strategy to destroy all the bases in the last mission (deciding not to bother with expensive Aboms and going for Skelly spam). From watching this it's clear that the problem was that I suck lol.
Not sure if this still applies with the current patch (including whatever W3C might have done to it, but originally in Reign of Chaos, Undead Banshee's Anti-Magic Shell worked the way Night Elf Anti-Magic Potion does in TFT (except that the latter does not grant immunity to Web/Ensnare), so you could use it as a single-point Dispel that (I think) did no Dispelling damage to Summons. This would have helped a lot when you were getting hit with Curse and Sleep, as well as Frost Nova.
@@TheTriangle444 According to Liquipedia WC3, Possession became channeling with Patch 1.13, dated 2003-12-16. While looking this up, I also found that Patch 1.35.0 (dated 2023-01-19) changed Anti-Magic Shell so that it always takes damage from dispels -- it used to only take damage from dispels if it was protecting a (summoned) unit susceptible to dispelling damage, and not take any damage from dispels if it was protecting a unit not susceptible to dispelling damage.(*) Not sure whether this means that Anti-Magic Shell protecting such a unit takes double damage. (*)This would actually be not a bad for other buffs and debuffs -- have them have a certain number of hit points and take dispelling damage rather than being auto-hosed (although in some cases a dispel would do enough damage to eliminate them in one shot anyway, although currently no dispel does enough damage to one-shot Anti-Magic Shell, but Purge comes close).
Your heroes had better items and a lot more mana. Also, I thought heroes did medium dmg in RoC. Great macro game though. I remember getting burrow tower rushed nonstop in RoC ladder or NE cheese with moonwells DH lol
Everyone (even Grubby himself apparently) thinks that heroes do Normal damage in RoC. You are confusing RoC balance and RoC campaign balance. To help you understand, RoC campaign uses 1.01 patch balance. RoC uses 1.06 (or 1.10 RoC, not 100% sure) balance. Heroes were doing Normal damage until 1.05, meaning that RoC ladder matches have heroes with their own damage type.
for roc dk/lich/fend build you need to stay @ t2, with 2 crypts pumpin fiends and then if it makes it to late game, t3 for 3-3 upgrades with web, heal scroll/protection scroll/wons vs banshees for ams. and dreadlord to get to lvl3 asap for strongest nuke in game.
Ooh the good old times of RoC. The game that brought me into the blizzard franchise. My cousin and my uncle were around since wc2 and as like a 5 or 6y old i saw it on their screens. But i guess that doesnt count. However. In RoC the best strat was just economics based. Human in my opinion easily most op race. Fast expansion, mass gryphs. Arch mage and mk or paladin. Or even the 3 of them. With this army comp you'd smash all enemys into oblivion. Incredible mobility, sustain, dmg output, harass etc. Only real downside of this strat was you'd be vulnerable to rushes. But then again, eapecially on smaller maps, do some tower and arch mage witg blizzars clearly helps. But may god forgive their unholy souls, if they go late game against you! In my opinion tft completely changed the game. Of course it was more versitaile and overal more complex. But i never liked it. In RoC i had my goto thing to do. When i reached my point, my economy and some gryphs with 2 - 3 leveles heros, i was just unstoppable and won 80 to 90% of the matches. But tft kinda destroyed that for me. When tft came out, i stopped playing normal mode and went more into fun games. Hero Line Wars and Hero Wars which is basically dotas ancestor. Later dota came as a thing. I never played dota on Wc3 but in hero wars i was quite a ace. Gnark Troll Marksman. That thing was broken as hell. Kinda like drow with a inbuilt crit. Or troll defender that was basically troll warlord. With enough -agi bought in shop, you'd bash them into eternity. Good old times ❤😂
@@DannyBlackburn-e1n Yeah man! That Wyvern fast tech with FS wolf harass was unbeatable for a while. Good old days indeed. What was your account? Maybe I'll remember it.
roc is definitely funny, especially the campaign where heroes have normal attack they completely destroy everything with light armor, which was a lot since unarmored didnt exist either
After 10 years he has innovated nothing! Hes had a decade to come up with some new tech and he has NOTHING. Just rolls over and fucking dies while coping LOL
The real grubby for ke has always been ROC grubby, including Moon. This guy was good, but when grubby and him fought at his first expo after grubby got creep jacked and the guy had to tp, i knew it was over lol
Similar to best player of a region vs a top player in the world. Usually the best player in a region doesn't stand a chance against against a global elite.
This guy has really good micro. He failed at expanding and securing the gold flow on the basebuilding level. If he had a decent level of map awareness, he would have probably beaten Grubby.
Go play age of empires 2 and you will understand better, you need to use control +1 ctrl+2 etc.. To control. Units better, and set building on whatever you like
So glad you're not a game designer. What I loved about Blizzard games is their expansions improved the game so dramatically. Vanilla wow is a game littered with terrible game systems (as is with all vanilla games). Its saving grace was the huge world and quest design and guild system that made it a fun social game.
Have you actually played the original non patched D2? I beat hell as a level 32 barbarian doing 300 odd damage with concentration that did zero % damage it was a joke...haha the expansion made the game waaaay better.
Thumbs up that people still play Warcraft 3. No matter if ROC or TFT! It's still the best strategy game that has ever been made and I hope it will never die. Sad that Reforged is such a bullshit. That made me leave Wc3 most of the time... Maybe I will come back one day!
Ur really good and def has lots of exp, do u remember a player back in roc called angryhuman? really good. I guess insomnia top azeroth main orc, i reach 150/0 random beating him with orc, tech wyvs ftw, he left.
in ROC magic damage was piercing damage for the casters attack type. Im pretty sure heros had normal damage and hero armour. Pirecing beat heavy armour. Normal beat light armour. Pretty sure that was how it was but reforge has messed with wc3 can someone confirm this or am I schiz?
this is why i hated TFT - it put everything on easy mode. you don't have healing... you have to properly micro with dk fiends while creeping. that's why the coil/nova nuke was SO strong in roc. same with coil/nova/carrion. i MISS ROC so much but seriously PLEASE tell me how the hell you got to play RoC on Reforged???
31:05 this guy really thinks not creeping enough is what lost him the game as opposed to lack of micro, positioning (he lost 3 banshees to one creep camp alone) and lack of scouting. But that pretty much sums up ROC players who were always weirdly behind in those elements. For those who don't know, there was a small but very active ROC community that existed alongside TFT through the years, and TFT players would occasionally dip their toes in ROC ladder and it wasn't too uncommon to see top ranked ROC players losing to barely above average TFT players. I never saw it happen the other way around.
