Watching this makes me really appreciate what Ceb said the other day about who he thought was the goat of dota2. He said for him it was puppey and his reasoning was "way back when i was a kid puppey was already puppey" - and you can't argue that. it's truly insane how he's always been in the top tier of the sport even after pretty much everyone we see in these documentaries has long retired. whole teams, orgs, and regions have risen and fallen but puppey is still puppey. I can't imagine the scene without him.

Everytime I watch this I can't help myself but cry. Especially hyhy's story. Passion is a funny thing. It puts you in a tight situation where you have to sacrifice some things to push through, but once you break through, you will then realize something in yourself you haven't realized before. Some of us are too unfortunate for having their passion known, but cannot pursue them due to challenges in their lives (financial situations, family matters, unorthodox status quo, etc). But I really, truly do hope that we can find this balance in our lives - a growth paired with your passion which is somewhat challenging the norm, and a comfort where you can relax once everything seems a little bit overwhelming.

Grubby made me go back and play some dota 2. For the past year or so, I've been playing the game less and less. Especially since there were lesser tournaments and lesser hyped-up content (because of the pandemic). But this guy, seeing his genuine reaction to learning and loving the game made me remember why I loved the game. Especially, that he is someone my age made me think that you are never too old to play the game.

Quake?!?!?! Hello?! The founding four competitive games are Starcraft, Counter-Strike, WC3 and Quake. These are the games that built the foundation all other games stand on today, if they want to be competitive. Plenty of games CALL themselves competitive, but are not competitive at all, like LoL or COD, where both are based on the exact opposite of what the founding four was based on, equality, no one having more or less than others. In both the aforementioned games, a person with 1000 hours played will have access to more game changing content than a player entering the first time. The founding four however was about skill, everyone is equal at game start and all that matters is skill. I hate that people call games like COD or LoL for competitive games just because they are played on a separate server system with everything unlocked (only accessibly for LCS players), the regular player is playing a game where the one that invests more time/money will have more options, and the favor always lies in the hand of those with more options. Yeah, I ranted. I really dislike newer games trampling on the legacy of real competitive games by calling themselves competitive when they are not. It's disrespectful.

@@OriginalPuro imagine legitimately saying league is non competitive because you are advantaged if you own all champions LMAO bro by the time you get to LCS LEC you've got time to buy them 3 times league's prob less impressive and deep than the 4 mentioned but it of course is as fair as dota, most of what can be done is achieved through draft

It's mesmerizing seeing all the care Valve employees put into portraying and bolstering the life stories of their community while they behind the cameras probably share similar stories of hard work, passion and creativity leading them to their success as a game studios and digital marketplace, I know a big chunk of them have understandably moved on to other projects and the ones that've decided to stick with Dota continue exploring new concepts through the game but I have nothing but gratitude for them.

I started playing dota 2 after watching the film in 2013, mostly at the net cafe. I still remembered me keep practicing DotA allstars instead on my home potato computer and sometimes partying Dota2 with my friends and scrimming with my junior/seniors in highschool. In 2016 I won my first university tournament, Esport was barely recognizable there back then. I met a lot of great people especially my teammates. In 2017 we made a small community in our faculty and decided to register 2 teams instead. I won it again, and our 2nd team got the 3rd place after unluckily met my team in finals. After a long year break, a lot of things happened and esport kinda being restricted for a while, campus tournament cancelation etc, I ended up rarely touch my account, and in 2020 I decided to focus on my study. Choices has to be made. It was a pretty short time but dota definitely changed my life. It was a lot of fun, I can't help but still watch dota pros until now. It's a good feeling watching you play dota and bringing the community back to life. Looking forward to your content.. Thanks man!

This documentary makes me feel happy and disappointed at the same time because It's really awesome to see the stories of these players who had it rough with their parents for not supporting their choices for gaming, but yet, they fought through and held on to what they believe in and got through with a big payoff. It's also devastating for some people, for those who couldn't fight through because of how strict and demanding our parents are, thus we're stuck in confusion, regret and betrayal for being robbed from your childhood. Now you're over 30 and the words "it's just too late now" never lets you go.

Its CRAZY how the notion of Drafting being the deciding factor in Dota has changed in a decade! Back then the hero kits, the tools and strategies available were lot more limited (smaller map, simpler spells, less items, no neutral items, less objectives) so you were truly locked in to your picks' niche, nowadays it's not a rarity to see the less favored team steal a win or players choosing their comfort pick over the 'correct' one.

The final thoughts of this documentary, when they say how we will look back at players that risked it all and gave esports a future, applies so much to Grubby as well. Actually they did at one point. But their age didn’t allow them to compete anymore. Vigoss-one of the best dota 1 player actually did played dota2 but vanished after awhile. 820, Burning, mmy,QQQ, Xiao8, Chinese legends, they all played Dota2. Sport in general are crucial, if you aged, you’re out. Ronaldo, Zidane are the same. But the best part of it is the legacy they leaves to the young generation. For example, dota exist since 2001 or something, and the burning anti mage build is still not replaceable. Ppl still make the same build regardless 20 years have passed.

She is saying "it is your choice" yet she says that "gaming is pulling you down" If you are providing for yourself, no one has a say on it. Understandable from an elder perspective, but it does not give them an excuse to belittle what you love and not see it from yours. Better to regret doing what you love and be hated for it than regret not doing it and hate those who pulled you down more. A once in a lifetime chance comes once in a lifetime for a reason. team navi is most entertainment team in the history of ti.they enjoy the game, the classic final game in TI 3 and also the hook to the base(dendi's pugde) in TI4.though I am a chinese dota fan, still injoy it.

33:39 so funny to see how much the heroes got buffed over the years, NP with a pitiful agility gain of 1.9 back then, where as now he has one of the highest in the game at 3.6.

01:04:50 It's not good to force yourself into a black hole of emotions after a failure. But it is also not ok "to be ok with it" and just let it go. After a failure in life there has to be mourning, pondering, meditation, and learning, among other processes, so we can learn and get better. It applies to most things.
