Grubby's Journey Through RANKED DOTA 2 [Herald to Immortal] 

here i am, being around 3k since over 10 years, relating to almost all the herald moments

Its a journey to climb the ranks in any moba. I started dota 2 when Grubby started league. 4-5 months ago i was herold and now im Archon 3 as a Mirana pos 3 and 4 otp. I learn and practise everyday, just recently really did get a clue of stacking camps and going for crucial roam timings. Even tho i reached top 1-3% in League and Hots, you still need to learn the details of a new moba, there is no cheat code. Hey grubby I have discovered you randomly few years ago after searching to play wc3 again after many years. I have loved the content, the plays, the style, the commentaries, everything, like I had found an old buddy I did not knew I had even if you have no idea I exist, been watching most of the things you sent to youtube about wc3 for years, often the first thing I do when I wake up is watch your new content. I have been one of those who commented sometime to push you to try dota wich I played for like 20 years now, I never was good netheir at wc3 nor dota, I am average, but I loved it very much I am glad and happy you liked it too and mix and kinda remerge and reshape in some little but real way those two communities. Nice going champ, it's crazy how good you are at those games, how a good person and showman you are, I thank you for all, I love you and wish you the best. ggwp

After playing for so many years I can confidently say that the secret to gaining mmr and breaking past your plateau is to master 1-3 hero’s and a maximum of 2 roles and to play absolutely nothing else except those 3 heroes and 2 roles until you dominate that lane/role and understand how to do well with that hero no matter what

But what did Grubby lose on the road to immortal...?

Grubby I am a huge fan, have been since WC3 times (we actually did an interview together once, I was a caster in the days of WC3) and I was SO stoked to see that you joined Dota2. And then I was so sad when I realized you already quit again :( Can you please come back? It was such a huge push to my motivation to see you climbing the ranks in Dota2.

I haven't been watching you for a while and I had no idea your peak was 6.4k! I can't even hit 6k! Welp looks like that's another goal I should strive for this time. Thanks for the motivation, Grubby!

i started climbing when the news of Grubby reaching immortal came out. I was 2,1k mmr for 4 years. with pma and all mute i reached ancient 3

With all the coaching and tips from pro players, grubby improve so much, what a journey!

The key to winning mmr in the early game is always having a better lane than your opponent, through better hero picks or by out playing them. Then, to close out the game, never die, through tank items and good positioning. For positioning, If you draw a line through all 5 of your allies, and another line through your 5 enemies, a vertical line towards a horizontal line loses because the horizontal dps gets concentrated on the vertical end hero resulting in an early death for the vertical positioned team, and it ends up being a 4v5 for the remainder of the fight. That's why blinking/forcing forward is almost always bad; it convert's a defensive horizontal formation into a vertical formation.

It's wholesome to see your journey. thanks for the video I have only reached Ancient 1 (~4k MMR) as a support before quitting. (believe it or not, it's easier as a support to reach there, because you can actually carry the game from that position)

I started playing in 2015... finally got ranked in 2023... still in herald 😆 i only have like 300 games played in all those years.

2 to 4k is the constant "look qt what are my team is doing. I have been revealing for some time now..."

But how did you Grubby climb ? What did you figure out works in Herald, what in Crusader, what in the other ranks ? Because in Herald, right now at this moment, you get matched so that half (or more) of your team seems like they are playing Dota 2 for the first time (not using courier, stunningly bad item choices, afk at base etc.) and the other half actually plays the game. P.S. : I have 1k hours in Dota 2 and I suck a lot

dota 2 is such a strange game, i was stuck in herald for years due to the rampant amount of smurfs, i finally got to crusader and realized that herald was actually way harder to climb out of than any other rank, now the behavior score system is so broken that ive had to uninstall the game as I would lose a few hundred BH points go into turbo for 15 games and win them all back but then my BH started dropping and I wasnt even communicating in any of my games, I went from 11 k BH to 4.5 k even after i was on a winning streak playing support.

I was in ancient for like 8-9 years could never get out of it for the longest time. I finally hit Divine , and then took me 6 months to get to immortal. crazy stuff

I started playing Dota 2 in July 2013 , right after open release. Then stopped playing in 2016 at Archon(two years after college). I restarted playing in November 2023, presently at Guardian. (I should be atleast Archon but my communication score went down to 2000 and I lost many many MMR points. I regained 10000+ score and steadily clinbign the MMR ladder. At this rate, I'll reach Immortal in the next 10 years. Thanks Grubby.

I can share My lowest has been 700, and now i am 3100 Sometimes the difference is abysmal between players, but some game you see people that play SO BAD that you wonder how they got so high in the first place

No idea how it is possible to get from 1 to 6 k in 2 years. I have been playing for 10 years, started around 3k, then fluctuating up and down from 3500-4500... then once 5050 mmr, then again 3 k, now i am 4500! But not 8 k lol....and i am nob being negative or toxic, i just play for team every time, trying my best, being positive, i find this impossible lol. To win? even if trying my best and doing for team, to win with whinning and crying teammates who dive fountain with divine?

Pity he cornered himself by skewing the exploration/exploitation ratio. Keep the exploration always going people, otherwise if you stick only to the roles and heroes that you are best at, there may come a point where you are bored of them but will have no other choice but to play them.
