I have found that when undoing brass pump valve unions, the tighter you squeeze your grips the union becomes impossible to undo because it becomes slightly oval in shape, using your grips backwards tends to prevents this and can often make the union much easier to undo, not saying it will work every time but has done for me on many occasions.

jaxmar88. I noticed this too. If you squeeze like mad it docent undo. Larger grips mean a better fit so less squeeze. You said something I thought for years!!

At high level with no other means thats bullshit. It will never vent with 0 water in it. I think they mean it will push out a small airlock. I have turned them around and all sorts to get circulation. In the end I put a old pump in (working) and left the bleed screw open with a bucket under it and just waited. 10min later job done.
@Shandybrother

yes, I agree at high level the install there should of had a bleed pipe installed higer than the pump

@@HeatingGeek Careful planning how you mount the pump. Directly above mine is the water feed and the air vent. So it's self-priming.

How do you unscrew the electronic part(black bit) from the red part?
@HaggleLad
@HaggleLad 8 месяцев назад
It's not screwed in, it's just a tight sealed fit. I was able to use a flat head screw driver to prise it off the pump.
@Rimdana
@Rimdana 3 года назад
Mine was fitted years ago and I'm pretty this would work for me if I could get the electrics off. Maybe bigger hands. I'm tempted to pry it off with a screwdriver, but reckon I'll damage the head, me being me. Why do these things conk out when its snowing 😭
@Rimdana
@Rimdana 3 года назад
Omg, yessss!!! I got it off!! All thanks to your feedback to comments 😁 i used a narrow wallpaper stripper with a bevelled edge to pry it off. My screwdriver couldn't get it started. I'll leave another comment in a few. I was right about the age. The screw is here.
@Rimdana
@Rimdana 3 года назад
Right, so I took the screw off (the washer was fine), turned the impeller back and forth and popped the screw back in. Had a wad of Plenty under the screw to catch any water trickle, as mine's mounted upside down and I didn't want to wet the connectors. It was hard to get back on, but carefully, between my bodyweight and a rubber mallet we got there eventually - I didn't hit it very hard. Now it sounds like it's moving, it's very quiet anyway so its hard to tell. I'll let you know if the rads downstairs finally heat up.

Hi there, can you check my channel, I have a video of a similar pump Grundfos Alpha 2 L. It hasn't been working for a month or so, when I started the heating yesterday it started to make clickng noises. No errors displayed, but doesn't work as well. Thanks
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 2 года назад
Sounds like the pump is seized and trying to start. you may be able to free it off once the head is off. Unfortunately this requires isolation from the heating system and removal of the pump head, then you can try and free off.

I just wonder how did ya pull this head off ? I was trying 3 days and at the end i called plumber. He came at home he saw i was trying to do something with pump head and he asked me what i was trying to do ? i have explained to him and he said most probably you was watching some funny guy who dismounted the whole pump and there after you dont know how did he take off the head! Seriously mate if you going to state " I just pulled off the head " not bad idea to show how you've done it eventually . After i spoke with the plumber at home and showed him your video he was actually right. The whole pump is disconnected ... He just mention until somebody dont show you how he done it better dont try your self because most probably the person in the video is not showing how he done it with reason ? Anyway useful information but not full
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 4 года назад
You can clearly see in the video the pump is in place and still on the heating system. I did just PULL it off. I have done this on several pumps to check and some are a lot harder than others. I'm sorry you couldn't do it but this isn't staged. I was replacing this pump anyway and it came off in my hand when I went to undo the nuts. I have also mentioned in another video that later pumps just have a blanking plug instead of a vent now. Anyway, I'm glad you got your issue resolved and you used a plumber. Watch the first 10 seconds of the video again to see the pump is clearly still attached to the system. NO BS here.

They are pumps 2 and 3. 1 burnt itself out one morning when it failed to start. Speed control was via a valve rather than switch. 2 replaced 1. We ran that on speed 1 - it wasn't powerful enough to burn itself out ! 3 replaced 2 - which was flushed out - then worked fine again, so kept as a back up. 3 never failed, was taken out because a new crap pump was installed under 'warm front' grant - so 3 went straight into storage. The crap pump is still providing a satisfactory service on speed 2.
