Oh how beautiful this is!! I love this kit so much. I love the grunge of it, the colors and the faces. They all have the look of people who have worked hard all their lives. I love all of the fabric! I REALLY LOVE this journal, your best one yet!! So grungy!! You put your heart and soul into this one. Yes, this journal, along with the one from your art retreat and the little booklet you made for that exhibition, are the most...you. Just stunning! Printing on acetate was genius - the way light will reflect on the images, the movement of some clouds or leaves when is windy, will give life to this book. My favourite i can say. Yet another fascinating journal! Just a tip for making sewing the signatures in a bit easier on dark fabric - you could use some fabric chalk (which comes off) or even some gold paint to mark the holes as you make them, to make them easier to find when trying to sew them. I think Harriet & Helena Scott (the sisters who became renowned Botanical & Entomological artists in the 1800’s in Australia) would have enjoyed meeting these artistic sisters & sharing letters, stories, art & ephemera with one another

This is a quote from a letter by Helena Scott on 22 October 1862 regarding Ash Island where they moved with their family at age 16 & 14 and created many of the images that went into their father’s beautiful book of butterflies. It is also where the Scott sisters really began their lives as artists, naturalists & scientists - “How beautiful the native flowers are at this season! Our railway line is positively resplendent with the yellow dog-wood, blue campanula and scarlet bottlebrush. Somehow the scent of native flowers is always associated in my mind with the days when we were tiny little children, and Mamma used to take us, in the early morning, for long rambles in the fragrant brush (then) around the Botanical Gardens. It is wonderful how these early recollections, associated with the sight or scent of peculiar flowers, cling to us. Some wise man says it is because our olfactory organ is immediately connected with the brain, and one acts on the other - perhaps it is so.” I like to think your sisters read this fragment & it inspired them to create a beautiful painting in honour of their fellow artistic sisters From: The Scott sisters of Ash Island by Jodi Vial - Hunter Living Histories

Liebe Barbara, danke für diese wundervolle kleine Serie. Dieses Journal ist so einzigartig geworden und ich liebe es sehr. Es ist voller Schönheit und Tiefe. Und die verschiedenen Zitate, die du ausgesucht hast, untermauern dies noch. Du hast ja schon viele unterschiedliche, großartige und wunderschöne Journals angefertigt, gestaltet und dekoriert, aber dieses hier, neben dem Jeans-Traveller Journey, ist mein absolutes Lieblingslournal. Ich bin überzeugt, dass es dir gelingt so zu arbeiten, wie es für dich richtig ist, ohne zu überlegen, ob es mehr oder weniger gefällt. Für mich bist du so ein wunderbares Vorbild, und ich nehme dich immer als meine Lehrmeisterin, weil ich mich oft verbunden fühle mit deinen Gedanken und vielleicht auch weil wir ähnliche Farbvorlieben haben, wobei es bei Gold dann aber nicht hin haut, weil ich Silber über alles liebe;) ... Oder das Beige dem Gelb vorziehe. 😊 Aber das nur so nebenbei. Ich schau dir jetzt seit etwas über einem Jahr regelmäßig zu und ich bin so beeindruckt, wie du dich immer weiter entwickelst und wie schnell. Das ist so toll. Well, i have had this completed since you posted this video, other than the binding….for some reason this binding method intimidated me, so i set the whole thing aside for later. TODAY is the day! When you have small pieces of fabric and can’t sew it try putting paper in the bottom and sew it then rip the paper off it with water. It works

Good morning Barbara the journal is so awesome! Struggling with seeing where your holes are - I have sewing embroidery pens you can mark in any color then use a hair dryer to make the marks go away it really helps

It's funny how we can Love both grunge/rust and shimmer/shine. You find the coolest stuff 😍. I've started saving the binding spines from books, they're awesome. Lol yes it's the decisions that take the time! Ah, my favourite gold paste! I keep mine soft with a little glycerine in my water spray. I'm terrible for overdoing.....well, everything🙈. Lol my favourite paper bag! Gotta love Amazon freebies🙊. Lol yes, the right way up 🙈. I absolutely LOVE her 😍😍😍 the colours and mix of styles are perfect and the story makes it so special. Do you journal the stories inside so you don't forget? I couldn't live without art and all the wonderful rabbit holes it takes me down lol. But junk journaling is definitely my home!
