Barbara that blue journal was Gorgeous! I'm sure the new owner will cherish it. You had the right ideal using a hammer,, For the future, you need to get a cheap, hand,, eyelet setter. It's a short, silver, metal stick, that has a "nub" on the end, it splits apart the back of the eyelets. Or as some have suggested, you could invest in the big bite. 🤔 after years of the hammer, I went straight to BB. 🤩

For the eyelet you can get the cropodile big bite for long reach or you can get eyelet settting kits that have a tool that you bang and it makes the edges curl around to secure the inner bit.

Barbara: although you don’t use blue a lot in your color schemes, it is still the favorite color of most people. This journal is quite nice. The person who will receive it will be overjoyed to get it, especially since it was created by you. I loved the fact you used a stained table cloth. Good going! Carol from California

I love both of your fabric covers. I kept yelling to you to put blue on the butterflies. And you heard me. But I never thought about the stamps from the Field Notes. That was such a cool thing to do!! These two Journals you have are so full of inspiration. I love them both. One thing I did with my ribbon and bead was I used my awl. The tip of the awl was small enough to push the ribbon through. Then I just trimmed up the ends of the ribbon. Can’t wait to watch the Upholstery Journal come together. I love both of your Journals.

On such a thick cover you might consider using a grommet instead of an eyelet. They have a front and back piece so they'll look nice on both sides. You can get them in the sewing department of your craft store, and they come with a tool for setting the grommets. Someone somewhere probably makes decorative ones too.

I am so sad we won't see the adventure you have with her, she is going to be an awesome chubby baby, she is beautiful, the colouring and the cloth are lovely. Your 2nd little cover is cute too, maybe we will be in on her adventure with you???? Hope so, it will be fun to see how she turns out. You have inspired me to try one, (I have soooooo many bags I keep collecting!!!) as soon as I am finished a Journal for a friend in USA entitled Ode to Africa. They make a "big bite" crop-o-dile that has a very long reach, or another option for the eyelet is to get a hand setter. Sometimes they come with the larger eyelets.

I hope you remember my book I made after seeing the one from Hanni. I emailed the video to you. Anyway, I will admit one of the hardest parts of making that journal was the beads and holes for the closure. I didn't use eyelets but just my awl and since it was a canvas base, it healed around the ribbon that I put through those holes. It's held up for over 5 months now. I still love the sound it makes when I give it a hug. I think what tool you needed was either a Big Bite Cropadile or a silent setter hole punch/eyelet setter. The Big Bite is on my wish list for this very reason. Great video and now I'm curious as to where this cover is going! Don't leave us hanging....
@wandaspencer9523

I agree the crop a dilemma big bite works beautifully! That’s what I prefer to use. However a more affordable option could be grommets. There are multi sized and the tool to set them is very inexpensive. I use these for home decor projects like shower curtains, draperies, chair of cushions etc.

Barbara… I want to try this so badly because it’s so beautiful and I need a new journal! This is so inspiring. FYI you can avoid the eyelet issue you had with Fiskar Eyelet setting tools. I love them so much better than a crop-o- dile and they are relatively inexpensive. You can set an eyelet anywhere on a page and they cut through fabric, cardboard etc. Great Video!
