My dad told me the meaning of success when I was a teenager. He said "Son, you will know you are successful when your friends or family asks you if you can help them move, and you can pull out your checkbook and say, 'Sure, how much help do you need?'". Unfortunately, I have found an updated definition. I will be successful when I can purchase every guitar you showcase on this channel. Such a vanishingly small chance of success though...

The High-resolution secret to that Guitar's beautiful Sound is the exact NECK RELIEF and the perfect FRET-CROWN Work. 99% of the Time I could only hear Clear Notes without the Distracting Fret Crown Buz on most High-End Guitars.

That Flammang sounds great! I first heard of him about 10 years ago. He lives a few towns from my in-laws. I have also been awed by how many different styles he builds. I first saw one in the wild about 5 years ago on American Idol.

I bought a Roger Schmidt Brickhouse Bridgeport guitar because of you. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!!! I'd thought me Yamaya L16M was the finest guitar I could buy, all in, for < $765. Roger showed me I was wrong. This Bridgeport sounds like multi multi thousands of bespoke luthier gutar!! I'll never not love me Yamaha's, but Roger's axe now rules me life!!! So abover and beyond. Not even close. Thank you, Sean

Great episode. A couple of years ago I purchased a custom guitar (12 fret dreadnaught) from a local luthier in Cumming Georgia. His name is Rick Gunn and his brand is Rose Creek guitars. Mine was the 61st guitar he had ever made and it is a family heirloom guitar. It plays and sound fantastic. When people come to my house that may not know a lot about guitars, they are amazed by the sound of my Rose Creek. I really identified with your admiration for small luthiers. They can produce the best guitars on the planet.

I am living proof that GAS can be controlled. I haven't bought a guitar for at least 4 months! And more important, I started playing guitar 59 years ago at age 10 but I have only been on the brink of BK for about 49 of those years. Sadly, those have been the 49 years since I moved away from home. That Flemang you just demo'd is, to my ear, the finest guitar I have ever heard you play. And you have played a plethora of practically perfect plectrum picking piece projectors. I first heard a Flemang when Jorma Kaoukenon played his on one of his on a pandemic lockdown youtube show at Fur Peace Ranch. It was another J-45 copy and it is amazing. Jorma quickly purchased a 2nd Flemang. I have been a believer ever since. I also watch Tony's Acoustic Tuesday show and he told his side of the "Flaming Incident" on a recent episode. Wish a Flemang was in my budget. I would be overjoyed to play and own one. BTW - I found you from one of Tony's shows where he demo'd the original JP Cormier Signature Bouchez - a 12 fret small body beauty. Fell in love with that guitbox also and looked you up to find the man who inspired it. My first exposure to you was your video of Hometown Battlefield. Been hooked ever since.

J.P. I watched you on that video with Chapman trying out all those acoustics- when you picked up the Flammang’ and started playing your expression was obvious!!! And the tone was obvious. I could tell that guitar was killer. Side note. With minimal Tools. I have crafted just 5 Flat tops since 1989. Labor of love for me. All 5 guitars were created using my small stash of Very old seasoned woods. I have 3 sets of old Brazilian left. 2 sets of old Flamed maple a d 2 sets of Walnut left. Handful of Old Adirondack, Engleman’, and Sitka. The woods been seasoning for decades now. I’ve restored countless vintage Martin,Gibsons. I might get around to using up my stash of woods. Takes me almost a year to craft one. Getting up in age. Labor of love

The back and sides certainly sound like a typical Mahogany instrument absent the mass-produced homogeneity. It sounds wonderful. The most stunning guitar (and yes, stunning) I've heard or seen on your channel is the Boucher Jumbo you played and purchased. I expressed polite envy (intense envy) at your good fortune to pick up such an instrument. This instrument is very nice and what many people wish Gibson would build.

If I'm not mistaken, the fingerboard and bridge are made of Ziricote. It figure looks a bit like Rosewood but the grain structure tells me it's Ziricote. Check with Mr. Flammang and I'm confident he will confirm it.

Trying to fight GAS myself. I finally learned what it meant. I think I'm getting it. Still I only have one great on. Don Musser who had never built more than 10 a year & is down to about half that now. My bridge is Ocelot Ear (Pau Santo/ African Blackheart)& it can resemble Ziricote but it is on the Janka with Ebony. I'd agree the bridge esp does not look like rosewood. Would lean toward Ziricote. I have seen is used for fretboard & bridge.

That's outstanding, slope shoulder dreadnoughts are fantastically versatile and comfortable to play, there are so many builders doing better versions than Gibson, don't get me wrong you will find the odd Gibson that sounds great but the odds are against that, I have an Eastman E6SS-TC that is an understandably great slope shoulder and I love it 😊

G.A.S. - Guitar Acquisition Syndrome - hogwash. No such thing. I have been playing since I was 14 years old. I own just one guitar (if you ignore all the other guitars) and don't suffer from G.A.S. I can stop anytime I want to. Being a guitar player, thankfully, I am not one step from bankruptcy (Bank account balance $0.46? Who needs to eat? Ring up that guitar, please). I don't have a problem. I play, I purchase, I starve - no problem.

You always taunt people about the expensive prices of the big three. But this supposed quiet builder in the countryside is more than a challenge to them price wise. I don't care if he stains it with his sweat. 5K + for a guitar is beyond the reach of the average guy. Unless you're a youtuber who gets a sweet deal. You always seem to leave out the prices on these guitars you rave so much about.
@patpuckett240
@patpuckett240 7 месяцев назад
He doesn't taunt anyone. Some of his shows are about high end instruments and some aren't. If you feel like you have put in the work and deserve a nice guitar then make it a priority, sell your other stuff and save some money. That's how I got a Boucher.
@starfighter2952
@starfighter2952 7 месяцев назад
@patpuckett240 it's $5000 for a guitar. No matter how you spin it. And yes he does go on about the prices of the major three.
@paulwidener5691
@paulwidener5691 7 месяцев назад
do you watch he started reviewing guitars under 1000 dollars for years recording kings alvarez even a fender and cheap yamahas. Jp always wants the big three to build guitars like they used to. I don’t comment on here much Jp is the reason I bought yamaha’s and alvarez guitars. Just know what you are talking about.
@The_Robs
@The_Robs 7 месяцев назад
I think the reason JP is hard on Gibson, Martin and Taylor is because the prices are so high, and the consistency just isn’t there. They are not being built by a single luthier who has them on his bench from start to finish. They are essentially mass produced, for around the same price as some of the independent small builders are making them. Based on JP’s review, I bought the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird, and played it side by side with the Gibson Original Hummingbird. The Gibson did not impress me at all, but the Epi is amazing, for about 20% of the price. JP knows whereof he speaks, and I trust his reviews, as a hobby player of nearly fifty years.
@paulwidener5691
@paulwidener5691 7 месяцев назад
@@The_Robs I have owned gibsons and taylor’s and martins no longer do or will in the future. The excellente inspired is a good guitar as is the hummingbird I have owned both. And to my point both are under 1000 dollars american.
