One thing that also gets overlooked is track knowledge. Knowing *where* the common overtake spots are is one thing, but also *when* you can overtake is equally important. It's a reflection of a driver's decision-making skills & great drivers know they have a limited amount of time to make a smart move unless they want to lose time with their target.
To be fair, being aggressive and going for the gap is probably more beneficial in F1 than GT sim racing. Getting clean air helps with cooling and tire management.
Really good points in this video, especially about tire management and strategy. The only thing I will mention is that with you being in top split it is a lot easier to follow someone and stay in their slipstream because almost everybody is has very similar pace. You don't lose time staying behind someone and waiting for an opportunity. But for the majority of GT7 players there is a much larger gap between you and your opponents - whether they are faster than you or slower than you. Both in daily races and even in league races. In the case that you are faster than your opponent by a larger gap, it makes more sense to go for the move and just pull away on pace. They will not be able to keep up because of the pace difference even in the slipstream. If you are slower than your opponent, it makes more sense to use the slipstream to go for a move early, then try to keep them behind for the rest of the race even if it loses you overall race time. Because if you don't then they will just pull away from you and you're not fast enough to keep up.
idk, maybe its just me, but in lower A+ almost the same as in top split. People mostly have similar pace and think little bit further. I remember on B and A rate that was chaos lol. Everyone wanted to overtake whatever it takes, even if it will ruined race for both. I passed B and A rate only with best quali time and driving ahead alone.
This is how I tend to race. Like you said the gap in speed is sometimes so large that my conservative approach waiting for the clean overtake opportunity sometimes leads to me getting ran over from behind or someone diving in on what essentially isn't a passing zone which normally leads to someone getting ran off course.
Thank you for this interesting video and for your clear explanation on how correctly racing. The reason why this game is almost often a mess and impossible to enjoy is because of the questions you got. Many people think that races can be win at the first turn, they don't use their brain (and neither their brakes) and don't understand that you have to build your win lap after lap. You need to have a strategy, study your opponents and avoid problems. It is not sufficient to say "I'm faster". I saw many people starting first and not finishing the race. Watching you I learned a lot to improve my driving skills and racing better. This is the main reason why I decided to follow you. Beacuse I consider your driving approach, your driving mentality, as a model for everyone. But from these questions, I would say stupid questions, I realize that many people watch your videos/streaming just to spend time. And of course they are the main reason of the big mess that we see everyday in almost each race. I hope this video will do its job but I don't believe in miracles! Thanks anyway for your effort trying to sensibilize people of how racing better.
I wish more GT7 people would watch this and learn. Too many people are too impatient and force passes after knocking other drivers off line and don’t get penalized. I feel like if the penalty system was harder on sideswipes there would be a real change in peoples driving. Currently only a full on rear ended seems to be penalized
Thanks Mihael. Lots of deep useful thoughts here. Even though I'm only at the beginnings of my simracing journey, it's good to hear and remember them now. 👍 Allow me to support you a little bit to keep Universe in a balanced state. 😉
Slipstreaming saves fuel. My biggest gripe with your info was your spelling on "brake" the air. That is the spelling for the device that slows you down. "Break" is the spelling to disturbing the air causing the following vehicle to save fuel by slipstreaming. Hey, I don't speak, read or write your native language, you do an amazing job. I know English pretty well, but I took 3 semesters of college Spanish, yet I can't speak any Spanish beyond "Taco Bell." I know guys, that's a joke...
