GTA 5 - San Andreas Mercenaries DLC - HONEST REVIEW & Rant 

While i do like some of the changes they did like nerfing jets, adding to the Avenger and the Career rewards, Rockstar completely dropped the ball on this one. They took one step forward then fell down a staircase backwards

This is the first dlc I've seen in any game where there's more content taken away compared to what we get. Limited time events are perfectly fine, but removing this much content in exchange of mediocre missions and payouts is purely unacceptable.

Idk what you guys are talking about. I for one am glad that Rockstar took the time to give us a proper April Fools update, granted it was 2 months late but an update is an update. Much better than just giving us snow for a day which ruins the driving experience. Overall i give this April Fools update a 10/10 they really got us with this one.

You know for a military themed DLC, you would think they would add more weapons or at least expand the weapon customization from the doomsday DLC but we only one weapon.

I totally agree. The New plane, the stinger TT, the monsterCiti and the Walton despite being random seem to me the only good thing about this DLC. The rest is a Recycling or too random that nobody asked for. and the worst thing is that almost 200 cars have been taken from us and that they cannot be bought

You forgot to mention that the Raiju for some reason is immune to normal bullets. You can only damage it with explosions.

They removed “lesser used” vehicles but they leave vehicles like dump/fire trucks and busses 🤦🏾‍♂️🤣😭 Edit I’m so confused as to why ppl can still lock on to you if you’re in stealth mode but when doing the mission flying through the canyon the SAMS could not. You have to purchase the weaponize conada as to upgrading the one you already have.

Agreed. Cars in the past few DLCs have always been the saving grace for the most part. This DLC has nothing interesting Also need more DCA rants lol

The crazy thing is the 3 Freeroam missions pay more than twice as much as the actual Heist missions. Oh and one of those Freeroam missions is of course lore-breaking because they have Merryweather operating out of Madrazo's Ranch. I sometimes wonder if anyone at Rockstar is fmiliar with their own game's story, using Madrazo to shill races was bad enough.

This dlc is the embodiment of "I expect nothing and I'm still let down."

Another bug that wasn't mentioned but it's affecting other players (including me) is regarding the vehicle rewards by completing final missions like getting Agatha's Paragon R, Dave's Weevil and recently Friedlander's Virtue. Yesterday i finished the Last Dose missions and got the call from Dax to pick up the Virtue but didn't spawn in the map (even though going to its spawn location it was still not there). Restarted the game and still didn't spawn. I'm not even mad at this point, many people wrote to R* support regarding this bug where some got the money to buy the Virtue but many got those stupid automated answers where some ahole tried to get on our nerves stating that it was a limited time event in march that's now expired and that the car can't be redeemed, like bro... At this point i don't even care anymore nor i will waste my time writing to R* support about the Virtue bug, me just seeing from multiple sources, youtubers, etc, stating the problems, laziness and greed that this "DownGradeableContent" (DLC) is, just makes me even more to stop playing this game completely (the reason why i finished the Last Dose missions only now).

I am personally very happy with the Ratel and the Clique Wagon. The Ratel is a lot of fun to drive, and the customization is great (the Trophy Truck and Desert Raid were always cars I wished had more options). That said, I see the arguments against them, and I agree that this update brought more bad than good. And Rockstar somehow managed to make the PC ingame chat even worse, with most people being unable to read each other once the session surpasses three players (sometimes with just two)

Almost everything else pays for itself, but NOT the Avenger. The nightclub pays for itself, the biker businesses pay for themselves, the CEO office and businesses pay for themselves, the Kosatka pays for itself, even the hangar pays for itself. The Mercenaries DLC represents an investment that you'll never so much as break even with. It's ridiculous. Even the Arcade pays for itself.

One more thing you didn't mention about the MonstroCiti: There is no option to customize the license plate.

I hope the insurance bug is fixed soon because if your a car guy in GTA and have several garages full of cars you might have to give check every single garage and car so it doesn't get destroyed permanently

I feel like a DLC should at least pay for itself in the end. Like the missions should cover the cost of the upgrade required to start them, or at least with 2 run throughs like heists.

Absolutely spot on and well said! All the cars add to the game and collected through dlc over the years, just thanos snapped into oblivion in an instant. 😮‍💨 Multiple dumb decisions, removing of content, and countless bugs and glitches. The new jet, avenger stuff, 2 or 3 of the several cars, and quality of life stuff are really the only highlights of the update, and the QOL stuff should have been added a long time ago! Overall, I absolutely agree. Just pretty bad and disappointing, my dude. 😅😔

The other negative with the 9 cars thing is that from what ive seen of dripfeed stuff were not getting anything new again until christmas so theyll be dripfeeding those cars to us until the winter update so its probably gonna be one car a month

You also forgot that we can get those removed cars in Auto Shop. Plus the missions are just lazy reskins from previous updates (invading NOOSE Server building was in Doomsday) and sneaking is pointless when enemies come for you after killing all of them. Rockstar started to hate Friends Reunited method.

I’ll say this again I feel bad for the devs, being overworked and forced to make changes like this to the game by the higher ups/suits

I love how the community has been asking for an LFA for so long, so rockstar chooses to remove the ETR1 which was the most similar thing. It’s clearer and clearer each patch and update that rockstar cares less an less about the community.

The poor payouts on the new missions are strange considering how much it costs to access them.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they increase the prices of the removed cars when they rotate them back in the game and label it as “making the in-game economy more consistent”

Best thing to come out of this update is the fact that you can now call your avenger, moc and the others more often and not have to put them away. The new jet is alright but it has the same issue as the B-11 where if you shoot it with even one explosive the back steering flaps fall off and your jet becomes unusable.

In some way I understand that they are using the majority of their resources in GTA 6, but also, the last 2 dlcs were a slap on the face with what they are doing.

I sold my Stinger TT because of its proportions compared to other vehicles.

gonna keep my eyes open for the comet at my auto shop. that is a sentence I never thought I'd ever say.

I enjoy more missions to do, but i really wish Rockstar would make them worth doing. You should be able to break even or at least come close to breaking even on the terminal by completing the missions the first time. Im not grinding the missions out to make up for the loss on putting a 1.5 million dollar dust collector in my Avenger. Logged in, saw the price on that, looked at my 2 million in funds, and bought the S10. No regrets.

With the 200 cars issue, instead of having them as podium vehicles or Rockstar + only, why didn't they make a classifieds page where 15 of the old cars appear randomly each week? They were old cars anyway and it didn't really make sense that they were all available all the time. Would have been fun to check the classifieds pages for a car you've wanted for a while each week and more realistic.

I think this is one of the rare DLC where it would have been better if we didn't get anything at all, mostly due to the cars removal.

I actually did want a standard looking truck in GTA because it's based off of the same one from San Andreas most of the vehicles in this game that were added to this DLC we're basically in GTA San Andreas or GTA 3

We'll never see the same R* again. From a company that makes ambitious games with passion, to a company that follows the dark side of other greedy companies to milk and break a single game title as much as possible. On other notes, this DLC has officially given the final nail to the coffin to all car collectors, race creators & to all racers. R*'s finally giving GTA Online the Red Dead Online treatment, no doubt.

I remember back when day one content saw more cars than nowadays in total with dripfeed

Usually I find the “who asked for this car!” people annoying, because there’s at least a few highly requested cars mixed in with the more niche stuff (which I personally like, I enjoy getting surprised) but this update I kinda get it. Aside from the Charger and maybe Roma, none of these cars were being requested by the community at all, and just feel like filler vehicles from GTA 6. There’s also the issue of day 1 being kind of 2 hours and done, when it used to be a big event where there’s loads to do.

Agree with everything you said, plus still annoyed that PC doesn't have next gen features and the Cayo Perico-killing glitches remain in tact from the Drug Wars update. The hold to sprint sucks too. Let me help you on this R*: Tap, Tap + Hold. It's that easy.

I think at most my favorite part of the dlc is the career menu & the ability to *eventually* get story character outfits

Theory: All these "unwanted" dlc cars are all cars already made for GTA 6, so they're basically giving us "new" models which are technically pre-existing models for GTA 6 without having to create new models for GTA 5 Online🤔

this might be the most tone deaf dlc I've seen in quite some time which is remarkable considering the company we're dealing with. The fact that said company also will be responsible for the release of the single most anticipated game doesn't make me very hopeful

I absolutely do not care for any of the missions and probably will not play them. However, I LOVE! the jet.

I think they had the Raiju and maybe one or two of the new cars as well as the avenger missions for a new dlc and the rest of the vehicles and the gun were just random stuff they have been kicking around for years. This has to be one of the last dlcs and they are just clearing out whatever they have laying around, putting in as little effort as possible, and one last blatant cash grab before the gta6 release cycle kicks in and current online updates end.

The aircraft and hangar features are the best think about this updates. However, we still can't store more than 20 aircraft in our hangar. That's one of the biggest disappointments for me. How many cars and bikes can we own, like 250? Planes and helicopters need more storage.

Ngl the missions were pretty fun and kind of unique-ish (except mission three). However, too many bugs and no addition of tactical/military clothing makes this DLC bad imo

honestly GTA online is so old where its at the point where we don't even need missions anymore they need to give us better character customization and more quality of life updates but instead they think about how they can make as much money as humanly possible

At first the dlc's were absolutely amazing like the doomsday heist, casino heist, Cayo perico and others but now not so much like the criminal enterprise where you can be a IAA agent that one was pretty good/decent but mercenaries dlc it was ok plus I was kinda hoping we would get those ceo vest in the dlc like those heavy tactical looking vest you can wear like the one you wear if you click on ceo style and go to El jefe and the other outfits I do hope next time rockstargames will do a dlc that's just as good and awesome as the doomsday, casino, and Cayo perico dlc

honestly the clique wagon is probably the best car out of the update

I was excited about the Walton and Clique wagon, and the Eudora becoming available again since I missed it the first time. That's...really about it for me with this DLC. Custom mod options are pretty useless if they're all terrible. I end up leaving my cars visually stock or try to make them as close to their real-life counterparts as possible. I would have preferred a non-lifted Walton myself. I ended up lowering it to a more stock ride height.

To Be Honest, I agree with you mike. Again, Not Going to sugarcoat it. Rockstar just removed almost 200 Vehicles Which is the OG & Old DLC Updates. A Lot of people say it's absolutely awful.... yep. Terrible always because glitches happened during the update, drip feed cars are less than Older DLCs before & also the fact that Rockstar wanted to streamline the browsing experience, i think it's a horrible thing in my opinion since every DLC Vehicles released like 2 or 3 years etc..... and also we always complained about the "Slow Handling Flags" but that's for another discussion to do. Anyways, according to my personal rating for the San Andreas "BROKEN" Mercenaries Update, I Would Give It a 4.5 Out Of 10 because the vehicles, changes & improvements are okay but i don't know about the "streamlining". It always reminds about the removal of the older DLCs & OG vehicles which is TOTALLY Insane.

As much as I actually like the Walton (s10). With them really pushing these electric vehicles. It was a perfect opportunity for us to get the Rivian. Could have been the first electric truck in the off road class.

At least for me, I LOVE the Ford Woody Wagon, and I wanted it in GTA Online, so I LOVE it being in GTA Online.

With the ‘hold to sprint’ option, my character couldn’t walk at a normal pace anymore… only run or sprint… could be only me, but I changed it back to ‘tap to sprint’ (or whatever it was called) 😅

Not to mention all the updates to the hangar feel half baked, and they should have just given the option to have two hangars to increase space. The staff source for the hangar coulda been useful too if they woulda just let you choose what type of cargo they get, but no, it's random. The whole "DLC" is one big joke...

R* better give us a DLC like The Contract but with Michael in December

I think that the random cars are cars that were designed time ago and in this dlc were added to the game. And the worst thing about this dlc are the bugs, it's not so funny now to play GTA online. Ps. Great video my guy.

For this dlc, just make use of the new hangar improvements that is the new land source and sell missions. Don't need to unnecessarily buy the Operations terminal for early grinding, get it after you get settled in the game.

The removal of cars upset me, not enough missions (personally), new jet is cool, wish they released better cars i.e Ram TRX, G-Wagon (new body), a r35/r34 and a 765lt/720s type car, happy they changed the cannons so I cant get strafed by try hard but annoyed I cant use it to clear out area of enemy's and cars in free roam missions and finally I'm worried about loseing my insured cars due to the 1 to many bugs. Keep up the amazing content DCA

after the lackluster that was the drug wars dlc, and this sad dlc that should be called the Deleted and Lost Cars, the December update is really going to be the determining factor if i continue to play this game....2 poor updates is one thing, but if they add a year of bad content i'm afraid to say i'm probably hanging this game up

I appreciate R* added new content and that Dispatch jobs can now be done solo, so was able to do them for the first time, so that was kinda like new content. I knew when R* said they were going to remove cars it was going to be a bloodbath, but I’ll admit it was worse than I thought. I thought they’d replace the old street cars with newer ones to make freemode feel more modern. But beyond removing 186+ cars or not adding more hangar space, is what they did with the sprint option which should be a crown jewel of QoL is that now it takes 3 minutes of lunging and 20 controller movements to just interact with a street dealer. Like when you call a dingy, jump off, and try to swim back to it, R* makes the dingy drift as fast as you can swim. I once tried to time how long it took to catch up to it and I couldn’t capture it in a 3 minute clip. These small, petty ubiquitous time wasting actions by R* are what truly define what POS’s they are.

Now looking at the thumbs of the new Buffalo and Hellfire... They're basically the same car, but with different details and wheelbase. Well done, Rockstar

Had to stop the video to actually look ..why have the classic cars like the hustler , z type , both Roosevelt’s , stafford , Hermes , rat bike , dynasty ,rat loader been removed?? I’m not scared they’ll soon remove the slam van next. Couldn’t they have added a search bar in the websites to find cars easier than just getting rid of some great vehicles?? Add on I love the cars I’ve just mentioned such classic old 1920 to 1950s cars are my favourite designs and wish there were more like them

Rockstar did a really good job with this one if the goal was to get me to play the game less. I haven’t even touched it since last week… nothing worth doing in it. I completed all the new missions, bought all the cars and planes I wanted, just waiting for the next event week. My CEO crate warehouses are all full just waiting for a bonus money week to sell it.

To me, this update would've been ok at best if it wasn't for the removing 200+ cars stunt they pulled. The lack of drip feed is something I could've overlooked because I like all of the cars and aircraft added (not so much the bikes). The missions (or the first couple that I completed were kinda ehh. Even the bugs I could've excused because they're at least trying to fix them (I think and *hope* ). But removing the 200 or so cars is where they crossed the line for this DLC. It makes the FOMO bullcrap they were pulling look like a heavensend. So many of the cars they removed were ones I love/want like the Tigon, Seminole Frontier, Tulip, etc. And the worst part is I know that we're never seeing some of the OG cars they removed again, like the Pigalle, Jester (God rest your soul), Massacro, etc. I'm hoping they reverse the removal once GTA VI comes out and GTAO isn't profitable anymore (oh *God* am I hoping they do that). If Rockstar is pulling this type of crap in V Online, what is VI gonna be like? Really makes my hope for 6 tank. (Also the Renault should've been based off the older one and had the electric version as a Benny's variant.)

I just realized another thing on the website Southern San Andreas they removed Frankenstange, which is a limited time vehicle.🤦‍♂️ Edit: and the sovereign Edit2: the walton is literally identical to the Yosemite rancher Edit 3: If you have the hold down to Sprint option enabled then when you ads and you hold to move faster than it brings you out of aim.

6:17 On the random S10 addition as opposed to something more popular, I'm not complaining because I have a square body S10, although a 2WD model.

While I understand GTA6 is the priority (finally) I agree with all your points. This DLC was shocking for me as I only really play to collect/customise/race cars. So this DLC is basically non existent. While Im happy that a ten year old game is still supported and updated, there is basically no point when this is what you give the community. But hey, heres hoping for the cars to be added back and a better holiday DLC. Thanks for all the content covering this update too. Not all heroes wear capes.

Avenger windows are no longer bulletproof. I don't know if it's because of the modifications in the hangar, but now I just noticed it.

When was the last time we got an update that wasn’t lacklustre and broken as hell, 2013 or something. But we finally got the Monstrosity after 22 years of waiting so that’s a big plus.

@DigitalCarAddict its 1.5mil - operations terminal, 7mil - avenger, 2-4 mil for the hanger to apply the operations terminal so you really need 12-12.5mil to get access to the missions if you dont have the hanger either

Instead of the Walton and the Ratel they could have added a Ford GT40 and a BMW E38 or Merc W124. And instead of the electric R5 a classic R5 or a Clio V6 would have been my choice

There’s storage in the hanger so if you run out of floor space it just goes there. No need to sell anything to make space on the floor

I miss old Rockstar when a new GTA came out every 2-4 years. This has become nothing more than a cash cow.

After ditching GTA Online for a year & a half, I was excited about trying this DLC(but wanted to do some research on it beforehand...to make certain I could do the missions solo.) After watching this vid, I may purchase an Avenger when it goes on sale(as otherwise, I won't touch this DLC.) By the way...that jerkweed that incessantly calls me to try an entice me to buy an Avenger, is really F**KING annoying.

The Desert Raid is the Karin truck you can steal from pelito it's just modified to look like a sand rail. The renault based car is just another freaking Issi mod.

To pay millions to play for thousands is wrong and greedy of Rockstar. Let's all agree not to play the game for like 1 week, the same week, and send a message.

This update was a add 2 things people like and 20 other people don't. For the past 9 years Rockstar has been adding new vehicles, NPC vehicles to buy, hearing player feedback about cars just to add a content-less update that removes all of that feedback over the years. There were people hyping this update just because of a jet, a JET! It's cool to have a new jet but when people just ignore all the other things a updates comes to offer, Rockstar comes with all the bad things and puts all in one package for player to enjoy. I want to send a big thanks to all the people who signed to GTA+, you are shaping the future of GTA6 online.

I agree with the cars being annoyingly and stupidly added randomly, i mean, it's supposed to be a "Mercenaries" update? why do we get like some weird cars, the Eudora, the Clique and the Ghost Exposed (thing, sorry) are fine but what's with all them other cars? tf are they, i wanted Trucks and such. I mean, this update has literally nothing to do with Mercenaries but the missions, maybe, the jet is for military purpose i get that, but the cars? the outfits? tf is that.

See I have no complaints with them adding the Walton. Cause I love that its a s10. Idk its kinda cool. Also kinda scaled weird tbh but cool. But instead of the Walton they shoulda added a Yosemite new version to be a newer silverado.

I'm am lucky with GTA. I probably own >90% of the removed ~190ish vehicles and the ones I don't own ain't worth owning. Insurance-wise, I spent 2 hrs going thru ~30 garages holding 308 vehicles and only 3 had become non-insured: Phoenix in Agency, Ruiner in Nightclub and Sandking XL in Tinsel (no rhyme or reason to the occurence). I got GTA5/O for $0.00 in April 2020. So my only cost is perhaps $20 worth of electrons and hundreds of hours of time. I'm basically content with any DLC a company turns out for a 10-year-old game. AFAIK, no other popular game has ever done this except Minecraft. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is I wish the PC game version would gain features of E&E games, because I'd like some HSW vehicles.
