After installing the car kit you would be able to listen to your iPod or iPhone through your factory stereo speakers and control your music through controls on the factory radio along with displaying the song name. The kit will charge your iPod/iPhone. The kit supports iPhone 5 through original Apple Lightning adapter.
You can use these instruction for removing Mazda Protege (Mazda 323) stereo unit.

An easier way to remove the radio in that type of Protege is to take out the glove box. Just open the glove box, push in the sides, drop it down more and pull it out. Stick your hand in the hole where the glove box was and you can reach for the back of the radio, and just push and wiggle it out. You don't even really need any tools.

just a heads up. i took my stereo out of my 2001 protege and instead of using the "mazda stereo keys" i just clipped hangers and bent them to look like the mazda keys and it worked great. also, thanks for the instructions on how to do this!

you can either fit it behind the radio, or underneath the centre console plastics.

So could i just grab a bunch of peaces of metal the same thickness as the keys and shoe them in and pull them out that way?

I had to remove the glove box and look back there before I realized that the entire locking mechanism was outside of the frame. I had to push it in with my hand while I inserted the keys to grab hold of the spring bar thingy. Before I did that the din tools were completely missing the spring bar. They were just sliding under it.

It’s most likely the stereo and frame has just shifted over time. Can you remove your glove box and look back there? All of the keys fit fine for me except one. And when I finally was able to look back there I saw it was just misaligned so the key wasn’t sliding into the right spot. When I got it lined up they worked no problem. FYI it was awkward to try and see back there

Hi, I don't have a cd changer only radio, will the method work for me as well. Put another way: Do you know if the Mazda Radios without CD Changer have the socket needed for installing GTA Kit?

I went to advance auto parts to bought that removal keys 2 of 2 pairs trying to remove the Mazda Protege 2002 I have. I try to wiggle the key after inserting them to the holes according to your video, the radio still stuck in there, and I try to apply some force on it, it still not working. What should I do, or what did I do wrong?

lestat Chow I have the same problem; I found out that the radio is attached with two phillip screws after taking the glove box out and looking inside. I'll try to take out the screws and redo the removal process again.

@@306_Zai I eventually was able to take it out, though I don't remember the details since it's been 7 years and I've since sold the car. One thing is for sure, persistence is key.

Just remove this standard shit radio to have waaaaay better quality of sound! I changed it to a regular Kenwood with an aux and USB port, you can’t imagine how much better, louder, and also with more bass the speakers sound! Mine also didn’t wanted to come out at the beginning, but you just need to use a little bit of mans craft to get it out. And I didn’t had those keys. I just put a thin metal sticks inside those holes :-D
