@@capybara9521 they have already delayed the game multiple times. They release it to make it to the financial year. They were just over their head about how much they can do.
@hell there's no real reason to run higher. I have 75fps limit set in rtss because that's the sweet spot for smoothness vs hardware requirements regardless of title on my setup
I'll never forget when I went onto a forum and asked why my camera was constantly shaking, and they all called me a pirate etc. Except, I wasn't. I had bought it legally, and was too young at the time to even understand DRM
When I was 12, I went on the wikia chatroom for Skyrim. I responded to a message from a guy talking about a bug and said "Yeah, my copy does that all the time." Some mod absolutely went IN on me for piracy because they thought I meant a literal copy. I was confused as shit. Got banned, lol.
@@user-cg8zi2wk3l I remember when my father bought me this game and I had all those issues, specially the drunk camera part. So yeah, more people who bought it were more affected by the anti-piracy measures than the pirates themselfs.
I played the EFLC before the main game back in 2011 and I did run into the Police Car problem. The same happened with the main game in 2012 but I never had the drunk camera or damaged cars. Only the cop computer was my problem. Fast forward two years later when I had the Steam version of both games installed and they were performing worse than the pirated ones. Classic Rockstar.
@@teslashark Is it the Steam version? They kinda fixed this problem. That doesn't mean the game's all set and ready to play, though. My friend has a 2070 Super and he can't run the game.
@@Needformadness2the first versions were released a few hours after release, I was there as a poor teen lmao. Some of the anti piracy issues were there but it seemed random because some people were effected and some weren't
Thats kind of the idea in all honesty. The most sales for AAA games come in the first few days or first week. The hype is up, people buying their pre-orders, stores running out of copies on day 2 or 3. Even R* knew they couldnt defeat the Warez scene back then. It WILL get cracked, but wanted to delay them as much as possible atleast for that initial profit boom.
Its kinda ironic because Notch said himself that piracy help the developer as more people play it and vill be inclined to buy it. Same with the music industry.
@@xL1PEx exactly. and if they get to try out the game first. its more likely that they will buy the game. Now that we dont get game demos like we used to. I can understand why people pirate games even if its wrong.
@@selectdevotee6810 Media piracy is very poorly documented and does not factor in lots of variables such as: Do people buy the game after pirating it, do they pirate it to demo, do they react negatively or positively after pirating it and recommending it to people that are able to buy it, or would they buy it if it was possible to otherwise legally acquire it on their region. Without taking all of that into consideration media piracy still just takes 4.4% of profits from the companies, most likely less if all of those variables are taken into account.
"In general, we think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem. For example, if a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable." -Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve (the company behind Steam), in an interview with Cambridge Student from 2011
@@grosdoorne I'm not sure whether this was an anti-piracy measure but that's what happened in my version of the game. During the last cutscene at the end of "Burning desire" mission Denise went to her house's door said goodbye to CJ and then, for some reason, ran to the nearby car took the driver out and started a fight with him. Cutscene never ended. Also, it's pretty much impossible to complete "Key to her heart" with hot coffee mode installed because the "pleasure" is somehow broken, so you always fail to make Millie CJ's girlfriend and as a result all Caligula heist is inaccessible from this point. However, it might be due to frame limiter
Then play the so-called "remastered version" on the Consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, & Xbox One). It has tons of bugs and glitches that makes it look like anti-piracy measures, lol.
"Big losses due to piracy" Citation needed. EU study showed inconclusive but neutral results from piracy. Meaning if it was conclusive it would've been neutral or even positive. But because error bars exist it was inconclusive.
Actually piracy is very popular in modern world, you can go on any torrent and see how much time GTA 4 was downloaded from them. It's like millions downloads. I hate DRMs but I understand that game developers couldn't survive on PC without them.
When CD''s were still a thing, if you stole one from a store or say an 18 wheeler carrying 10 thousand physical CD's of the game crashed into a lake, the company would take a loss. Now, there is Zero loss with digital copies. People who are prone to buying games will still buy the games. People who pirated the games that don't normally buy games will often buy the game after pirating. Pirating is a Win Win for everyone.
will you make a video about rdr2 piracy protection? The game took a solid year to be cracked, and in my opinion, there should be a bunch of silly protections in that game.
There's only one, the game keep trying to connect with the internet when you are playing so mr goldberg found a way to play off-line and empress did the license it took a year bc of that
I'd just like to thank the pirates, because I literally can't play the game that I own due to Windows online and Rockstar launcher shenanigans otherwise.
You need to thank Rockstar and take 2 for wasting si much resources into pranking a small group of people. Not the poor people living in shacks that can barely run the game on their old parts PC.
It's truly amazing that to stop piracy R* caused issues with paying customers with customers who made the mistake of not wanting a rootkit (SecuRom) on their computers. Made those pesky pirates wait a whole week instead of having the game cracked within the hour. 🙃
Oh yeah the drunk camera! I was still a kid back then and I was playing it in an internet cafe so I didn't knew what was that about.Eventually i fixed this problem somehow but here's the thing. The game was moded, to be honest the only reason I started playing TBOGT in a net cafe was the fact that the owner put real, licensed cars in the game BUT there was a mission where I needed to pick up 2 passengers with a Landstalker. Problem is that in its place there was a 2-door Hummer prototype so one of the passengers couldn't get in XD
I finished GTA 4 and EFLC on xbox 360 using bootleg discs that were super cheap. Looks like Rockstar games forget to add anti-piracy measures on consoles HAAA!!
This also started the anti boobytrapyness for copy protections as well. Even some threw themselves on the bandwagon later, Bohemia with Flashpoint bragged of FADE, but FADE never existed in the base game. It was introduced with patches later, however it's lifetime was quickly squashed when it did surface and a lot of pirates never saw it appear. But the triggers for regular users eventually made most developers shy away from this practice as they did burn quite a few legitimate customers, and in the grand scheme of things back then, protection for 3-4 days wasn't really worth it. The slowness of the supply chain meant that even for legitmate users, you couldn't get it on day 1, so unless you secured a month it wasn't that worthwhile and as such they often got the pirated version before you could get in the store. This was before fast internet was a thing too, so as a result downloading also took quite a bit of time to do.
this game took 3 days to crack...and more than 4 years since its release in 2009 to 2013 when the steam posts from the video were complaining about the anti-piracy measures for rockstar to fix🤣
Did anyone else notice the steep drop-off in quality of games the more advanced the copy protection got? Seems like piracy actually resulted in people choosing the games they buy more wisely and rewarding only the better quality ones. Today, you can't do that anymore, and people still want games - so now all the games are either terrible quality or remakes (with only a few exceptions, mostly by independent devs).
I always tried to call police backup when I had to kill enemies. Mostly all police officers were busy, but sometimes they came and started shooting with other guys. But I had to call them a bit far away from the enemies and try to luck they will arrive from their side. Than I just walked in, gangsters started shooting to me and police reacted.
All these measures taken, yet I remember just copying the GTA IV folder over and easily playing it without steam or a cd. (had license but copied it for modding)
The ironic thing with these anti-piracy measures is that they're usually solved within days and then pirates have a version of the game without the measures, then legitimate customers suffer from accidental triggers for years to come. Absolutely unjustified, and when pirates get a better experience than paying customers you lose any right to be taken seriously about your "losses due to piracy".
The fact that you can combine the weakened cars AND self driving to turn them into land torpedoes, means the pirated version has features that weirdos like me want to play with, like the serious sam scorpion.
I remember buying the base game when it first released on PC. It was so badly riddled with bugs that I had to return it. It was unplayable. So no surprise that their anti piracy measures affected legit customers.
I always laughed at these attempts as when I bought the game legitimately I couldn't get the game to even start on my PC even with rockstar help, but sure enough I just downloaded the cracked game and it worked perfectly because the anti-piracy caused the problem in the first place.
Huh, I just downloaded cracked Episodes from Liberty City last week and it is working pretty well till now luckily. Its frustrating actually, I actually have original disks for this game my dad bought about 6 years ago, but it never worked. I tried to install from it this time as well but there are sooo many problems that it is practically impossible to do so. I even tried contacting Rockstar, but got no response.
They should of messed w the story line and killed off the main character by a rival bicker gang for pirates and close out the game and if you reload it, it would keep happing
the police backup is helpful because the specific police that go to u wont care if you shoot a Glock in missions (just dont use AK47 or Assault carbine or anything other than the glock)
Calling all pirates freeloaders is a little disingenuous, yes I get why you call them that, but there are reasons to pirate the game especially today with rockstar not giving a shit about their old titles. And recently I wanted to play an old game and was willing to pay for it and I tried to but it was removed from sale everywhere, so it was either pirate it or forget about the game.
@@jp73987 piracy definition “the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work.” Emulation is the UNAUTHORIZED reproduction of a piece of software because there may not be an AUTHORIZED equivalent within reach or available to someone. Emulation IS piracy. There is no way of separating the two unless it’s an official remake or remaster.
