This game was absolutely revolutionary. I remember being in complete shock looking at the graphics as a kid, thinking graphics couldn't get any better. The story was incredibly emotional.

Crazy to think that, of all other GTAs, GTA IV feels to be a story that could perfectly happen in real life

This mix is literally perfect, as in fully relating to the dictionary definition. This is Niko's story, told without words. 0:00 - Soft tones. The war is over, but the ghosts never leave. One more man left to find. 0:32 - Warmth and percussion. Liberty City fades into view, cousin Roman is waiting with open arms and a whole load of make-believe. 0:59 - Tone change. Niko breaks a promise to himself. He's taken a life in his new city, and meets Vlad Glebov at Comrade's Bar. 1:06 - Core motif. Vlad is dead, Mikhail Faustan and Dimitri Rascalov appear. 1:19 - New instrumentation. Now part of organized crime, Niko continues forward doing what he knows best- loyalty and killing. 1:25 - Return of the soft motifs. Betrayal. The ghosts of the past still haunt him. 1:39 - Fuller tones. Niko begins his ascension up the ladder. 1:52 - Traditional European strings. Above all else, Roman is still his family, and must be protected. 2:05 - Full score. Niko is fully established in the criminal underworld as things escalate further. 2:18 - Tone gets less intense. His career of choice is routine, and he's good at it. 2:42 - Ascension. Niko is at the top of his game, working with the highest bidders in the city. Many want him dead, many more want his services. 3:11 - Drop in intensity. Darko Brevic is dead, but the old ghosts still linger. Life continues, as normal as Niko looks for a way out. He accepts one last request from Jimmy Pegorino. 3:24 - A further drop in intensity. Dimitri is dead, life is exciting. In time, the past will be washed away. 3:48 - Another rise. A loved one is killed, as a history of betrayal repeats itself. One last revenge mission, must calm down. 4:29 - Pegorino is dead. One final bullet marking the end of a lifelong career as a killer. Niko's family, or what remains of it, remains by his side. 4:35 - Drop in intensity. The victory Niko fought for, Roman's dream, is at hand. 4:43 - Strings play alone. The ghosts still remain. Or, maybe, I'm just overthinking it.

without the soundtrack being as good as this, i probably wouldn't have given GTA IV a chance. i heard this a while ago and i thought it sounded really good, it made me wanna actually play the game. so i decided to buy GTA IV like a month ago and i'm having so much fun with it, the story is very dark and it interests me a lot. it just goes to show how a really epic soundtrack from a certain video game can tempt you to play the game.

I loved how this game shows you that nobody cares about your intentions but your actions and consquences. Even if Niko was trying to help his cousin, doing the dirty work for others and playing with the mafia has a big cost. I dont think this is the darkest GTA, it's actually the most realistic.

That dual ending is so brutal it really hits you in the gut. Like Nico deals with a personal loss either way.

68 years later and this still rocks. Hope they remaster it for the upcoming GTA VII.

The reason GTA 4 theme sounds so dark and depressing compared to those of the other GTA games is that there is no happy ending to Niko's story... *Spoilers*: If he chooses to be a criminal forever, his love interest dumps him and his cousin gets killed from one of his associates who betrays him (Dimitri). If he kills Dimitri, to cut his connections with the underworld and live like a normal person, Kate will finally accept to be his girlfriend, but she will end up getting killed just few minutes later by the mob boss Jimmy Pegorino, as a payback against Niko. Niko will eventually get his revenge on the killer of his cousin/girlfriend but he will still lose one of the persons he cared the most in the game. Either way it is a tragic end to a tragic character considering all the dramatic events Niko went through before the game (the war) and during the game itself. And that's why GTA 4 is by far the most serious and realistic game in the series, not to mention the best one for the story.

Love the beginning. It starts out with sounds of hope, joy and love. Then the start with the heavy music at 1:00 is a wake up that every days a hustle, and each day is a chance for more opportunies

Man Rockstar had to make me feel like shit while i played this game didnt they? Theres nothing cool about war, theres nothing cool about crime. No matter how hard you try, good things just wont happen. The games story just highlights that fact through the portagonist Niko. Liberty City is the best map in any video game, not because of its physical structure, but by the fact that its the real antagonist in the game. LC doesn't just kick Niko down the second he gets there, it makes sure Niko stays on the ground. The whole game isn't trying to make the American Dream, it's to survive in a hostile, alien place, full of danger, death, and misery.

I love GTA IV especiallu Niko, almost every GTA Characters becomes a Criminal because they wanted to, and they enjoyed it, but Niko is different, he's the only character in the series so far that had no choice but to turn into the life of a criminal, he didn't want any of this, but he was forced to, he cleary is trying to leave the life of a criminal and try to live a happy normal life, but he just can't, his past would always haunt him and try to drag him down, and this Music really pictures it, especially the name of the song itself being "Soviet Connection" He is the most human GTA Character in the entire series.
