I can't tell if LS network is so bad because it's meant to mimic US transit or if the devs don't know how a good transit network should look like because they're from US
You forgot the Los Santos ride-share system! There are hundreds of publicly owned cars going around all the time. Simply knock on the window of one, and the person using it will be happy to lend it to you! There's no waiting times, it's flexible, and you can go where you want, all for free!
I could imagine it as a movie - dramatic jump cuts from the squad robbing a bank, and the last guy waiting for the train, hoping it comes soon (kind of like how waiting hard makes you think the elevator doors will close faster). Thank you for the support!
I love how Rockstar put so much effort into designing and implementing a public transit system that's just a shitty as LA's in the real world. Great dedication. They even got the unbearable slowness of it down, and you can't even skip the ride unlike GTA IV's subway. 10/10
As the whole point of GTA is to parody American culture, perhaps the metro system was designed poorly on purpose to make fun of how crap public transport is in the US, at least outside of NYC. You'd have a better time living car-free in GTA IV (reflecting the lower car ownership in NYC compared to the rest of the States) as the subway there is at least somewhat useful and taxis are far more abdundant and easier to find to reach places not on the subway.
That's disappointing to hear. I'm preparing to move to Los Santos soon (found a great deal on a place in Mirror Park) and was hoping to not need a car. Sounds like I'll have to go car shopping upon arrival.
@@TheTransitDiaries same and I wish we could ride the taxi as a passenger and take the San Fierro tram normally that way we have full access to public transport
Personally, I would've also touched on the Los Santos Taxi service, especially since they are the most convenient and useful in the game. The buses unfortunately can't be boarded as a passenger, the tram system has limited use only running through the city, however the taxis can be found all across the map, are nearly always usable, can be requested via your phone, and can fast travel to any destination you want.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the metro is underrated, I only remember using it once in storymode because I was curious and as for the bus they could've used it as an alternative way to fast travel similar to a taxi
The bus could really have been a good opportunity for fast travel. It would have been cool if it dropped you off at the end of the bus route as well, not just exactly where you want to go to. Thank you for your support!
Yk what’s funny. Public transit was so good in gta 4 I found it easier to get on the trains than steal a car, escape the police, and then also hopefully drive carefully enough the cops don’t get called onto me. So much easier to take the train
@@TheTransitDiaries To be honest I’ve never been to New York City. I’ve never in real life had the opportunity to take trains due to being a country bumpkin but always been fascinated by them. Most ammount of times I’ve been on them was airports and such. And also down in Disney world. Also you’re welcome. Cool channel. Just found you today and you seemed cool!
I've played 2500 hours of it and I don't think I ever used public transport. I mean look at it. The dude got attacked because he was going to give a negative review for the public transit system.
Well researched, especially the maps of both and noticing the bus colours. Sad we can't ride busses as a passenger. However, you should've have included the video of you sitting a solid whole trip with the Arrow.
I think GTA 5 transportation is creative, even though GTA 4 had a better subway system. Something I want Rockstar to change is that I want the busses to be rideable as a passenger, since if I get into a bus, I’ll steal it though I don’t want to.
i have been looking for videos that analyze gta from a more urban planning perspective so i was thrilled to see this pop up on my homepage. i liked this video a lot!
I really enjoy using transit in GTA games. I rode the subway a lot in GTA 4. But it's hard to justify using transit in GTA 5 when it is so inconvenient, and cars are essentially free and abundant, and you don't have to worry about traffic as long as you are willing to ignore traffic laws, which I assume most players are.
Which is true for Los Angeles anyway because it is a very car-centric city while its transit systems are lagging compared to NYC or even the rest of the world.
Rode a tram in LS, homeless hobo peed on me, got assaulted on a crowded tram cabin, got beaten up by a random citizen upon arrival. 10/10 would not recommend.
@@TheTransitDiaries Yo can you make a video on the viability of another Train that runs in game? Its Watch Dogs 1 Trains, that actually covers a decent part of the city, and is fast and usable during my playthroughs. The subway cars are detailed, and the elevated and on ground stations are cool.
I'm not familiar with your content (had this pop up in my recommended since I play GTAV) but I would absolutely watch more analyses of game transport like this one!!
I thought about making videos like this for watchdogs, cyberpunk, and red dead. watchdogs starts out so strong in 1 with the Chicago L, but in 2 the ridable transit is demoted to a single slow SF cable car. 3 could have been great with London's tube, but it's diminished to just fast travel markers.
I would've preferred if it was more like fast travel like in Red Dead Redemption where you use a train and it plays a small cutscene and your at your destination.
Hey, thank you for the comment! Unfortunately, my audience view time is very low, so I have to make the videos short. I tried to showcase both types, over and underground to try and sum up the experience quickly. My apologies for not doing more. Thank you for the support!
@@TheTransitDiaries If you are sacrificing quality in the name of getting more views, then why even bother with any originality or unique styling? Not to mention, looking at the way you mae this video, It'd of added a minute more at most.
@@CPorter Sure, that's a good idea! I do have my own style, it's just not something I thought of at the time. I was talking about trains more, didn't know people would care for the stations much. Thank you for the suggestion, have a great day!
@@TheTransitDiaries The stations themselves are just as vital to assessing the true quality of how accessible, practical, and usable that mode of public transportation is. Have a great day to you as well!
@@HenrySavageMode remember its not about quality, but organization, and destinations where each bus or tram goes, in LA its very very limited, ion even know who is using public transportation there, besides crackheads and homeless people.
I've been wanting to make a video like this for a while but you beat me to it and did a wonderful job. I think you would find GTA 4s transit system particularly interesting as it actually is very functional and many players will use it instead of driving because of its extensive coverage.
GTA 3 had a pretty interesting subway system that actually served a purpose gameplay wise and story wise, you could do LCS too since it has Built in Ferry's too.
I played the hell out of that game back in the days, and I've never seen that underground train station at the airport 😅 that's a really interesting video !
By the way, the reason why the ticket booths are behind the turn stiles is because it is for people who just got off the train to pay for their trip before exiting to LSIA. Often in some cities, the fee will be charged on how far you traveled. As opposed to just charging you at a constant fee rate. Depends on the city.
WTLS made a great mod that actaully simulates the busses, you can ride all the routes as a passenger and all the destination displays work dynamically dependant on which route the bus is running
That's pretty cool. I wasn't expecting quite the gta transport enthusiast to see and comment on this video. I like your your old videos. Thank you for the support!
When it first came out I actually was really disappointed that it has just one train. I hope in GTA 6 you have multiple bus and train lines. I know everone will just use it once, but I do believe that it would make the game feel incredibly real.
I wonder how big world size can be with the new engine. Given that they put a huge emphasis on graphics, I'm concerned the game world won't be much bigger. I'm a huge fan of big game worlds and hope for it to be big though. Thank you for the support!
After becoming a coach operator for Spokane transit I had to revisit GTAV and drive the buses around. The buses definitely resemble 40’ Gillig low floors with different rear/front lights
