Are we just not going to talk about how the actors for Micheal and Franklin are basically friends because of GTA5, and how Steven Ogg is actually a pretty well off actor now?
Yeah I was actually think about it today, I looked him up and it seems he didn’t do much acting before gta 5, now he’s done so much. Walking dead, and now he’s in the new show snowpiercer.
It's sucks that Niko's voice actor had that money dispute with Rockstar. He did such a nice job of voice acting Niko. Niko's screams when he's angry are terrifying and Niko's screams when he flys off the car's windshield are hilarious.
@@_wanted_outlaw3007 As much I love Niko, I think R* shouldn't mess with his character anymore considering how they treated Johnny from the lost and damned in GTA 5. Killed him in such a pathetic and pussy way.
I met Franklin’s voice actor almost a year ago at a event in Culver City and he seems very happy about being in GTA V. We did talk a little bit and he’s appreciated about my opinion on his performance.
I’ve talked to Ned Luke on Instagram and when I told him how I loved the game he told me how much he appreciated me telling him that. Plus I found out that he lives in Illinois just like me. I hope I can meet him in person one day.
"You know they always say, never work with children or animals. Well, I wanna add to that list. Never work with directors or actors." ―Solomon Richards
@Hamood Habibi Solomon Richard is a character in gta 5. He basically said a message that rockstar wanted to deliver from their experiences with actors and famous people.
hynd quart even if the game somehow turns out to be a big disappointment, it'll still sell millions upon millions of units just because it's a GTA game, plus they still have GTA Online to fall back on.
I honestly think that if GTA Vice City and San Andreas came out at the time GTA V came out Rockstar probably wouldn't have had a problem. My assumption is that in the early 2000's a lot of famous people and people in the acting industry really didn't understand how video games had grown from Pong and Asteroids.
Well we say that but really other than movie tie ins there's still not a lot of big names running to gaming. Like the current A list celebrities aren't doing them, it's either has beens or niche actors trying to stay relevant. Robert Downey Jr. , Johnny Deep, Chris Pratt, etc aren't running to go do voice work. I know Keanu Reeves has but hell he was doing it back when no one did so I'd chalk that up to him being weird.
It was also the beginning of voice acting in video games. At this time, for this part of game development, R* wasn't as professional as they are today, and actors used to work in Hollywood movie industry could have been a little disoriented.
@@darthbigred22 They're not running off to do voice work because they're not voice actors lol, they're different kinds of acting that require different talents.
To be honest, Ray Liotta was cool as well,he had problems specifically with Rockstar, not everyone in the cast. This is also probably the reason that he did take part in another game: call of duty as Billy Handsome, call of duty was not a Rockstar game. I am sure that he understands videogames, and only hates Rockstar.
Could not agree more. Aladdin started the trend of having celebrities voice characters and I believe it not only can takes the Emerson out of the experience, but it truly is just an excuse to throw their names up in the trailer.
It seems like a lot of these actors got screwed over by simply not being well informed on what they were working on. I mean I doubt Rockstar promised royalties to voice actors and then not pay. It must have been in the contract a x sum of payment, and once the game(s) came out and they were massive, they were upset they didn’t get paid more. At least that’s the way I look at it.
@@dennisthemenace3695 yeah u did the work but no one expected the cut content and ray liotta did actually TONS of work and ended up getting too small pay, it's your fault if you make a man work and still don't pay him for the cut content
Fun fact, when gta 4 was in development I sent a question to danny dyer (Kent paul) who at the time had a column in a lads mag (basically a magazine with boobs, sport and weird shit in it) on if he or any of the other characters from the 3d universe would be returning and he replied and it was published nationally here in the uk.........his answer from what I remember was he had no idea if his or any of the other characters would be returning but that he and some of the other voice actors had signed contracts that if a gta movie was ever produced they would play their respective roles.
Dave Chappelle would make an amazing GTA 6 radio station. 📻 He’s already super knowledgeable on music, a legend in comedy, and an all around interesting dude to listen to. 🤘🏽 it’d be the only station I’d listen to. 🎶
Burt Reynolds was a random mission given npc in GTA. In saints row they basicly worshipped HIM as HIMSELF. When talking about Ego its no wonder he didnt complain about SR.
@@FreshPrincex4 It's so sad what happened to Burt Reynolds, his last several years were hell on him, he looked like he was in a lot of misery. Through the 2000's he was still very active and doing very well.
Interestingly, Rockstar seem to do a way better job at negotiating with actors through the production of GTA V and RDR2 than they did before in 2000's. Aside from becoming more experienced and learning from mistakes, it also seems like they finally got big enough to create a proper media advertisement and give actors the credit and recognition directly by the success of the games, instead of hiring those who were already famous in the first place. Ned Luke, Shawn Darnell Fonteno and Steven Ogg had an immense recognition boost thanks to GTA V, and the RDR2 cast seem to be gladly in touch with each other and their fans till today. Needless to say, the Rockstar's casting couch is what they haven't yet disappointed us with in any way. Lets hope that GTA 6 will do just as good in that regard
the reason the RDR2 cast is so prominent in its fanbase is social media. it's not on rockstar's part, it just happens that social media exploded since 2013.
Samuel L. Jackson playing Tenpenny was probably my favorite performance in all GTA games I've played. He did carry a lot of weight in the story and set the tone until the end.
I still think artists like Kenny Loggins add a lot of realism when they're added to radio stations and such. Do I think Kenny could really play a GTA gangster? Of course not. But it's still amazing how Rockstar can make someone like that feel like such a realistic radio DJ when to my knowledge, he's never hosted an actual radio station.
How about both Danny Mastrogiorgio (who voiced Toni Cipriani in Liberty city Stories) And Dorian Missick (who voiced Vic Vance in Vice City Stories) ? Were they really mad at Rockstar ?
Neither of them have ever said anything about their experiences, and Mastrogiorgio was in Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, so I think it's safe to say that at least he's fine with Rockstar.
Frank Vincent was also happy to be part of the rockstar team all he said was wtf I this and once he was explained what was required of him he had a great time according to rockstar staff
As an actor myself I can say that working with actors can be a dream come true or hell on earth. Some are the loveliest and cooled people you ever met and then there are others who are just narcissistic pieces of shit. In the end, they are just people, and some people are just assholes.
Well put and thought out man, Karl as a DJ is a great nod from R* that you dont have to be an expert in the area. Badger have you seen Anthony cumia's interview with joe rogan about how they talk about RDR2. He's another voice actor thats had great experiences from R*.
There is a thing that all old time actors know - and not a lot of them understand - but they know it - is that doing voice acting work for anything is a career killer. After you do one that's it, your career is done and over with. That is not true of course, but it comes from old time actor's codes from back in the old days. Even Ned Luke still gets pretty touchy over this, he makes it so clear that "I am not a voice actor".
@@HuskyGamersUNITE Actors are a bunch of imbeciles man lmao They should snap out of their big ass ego because they are not actually important people. Nobody needs those motherfuckers. It's not wonder the romans considered everybody in this profession to be at the same level as prostitutes.
Can't believe that Roman's voice actor didn't get ANY residuals from GTA IV. Now I really feel bad for not going bowling with him all those times that he asked.😩
I heard that Phil actually enjoyed being part of the game and never commented about the pay, if anything, it sounds like he did it for fun and the money was a bonus.
If I’m remembering this right, he used to have his own website where he posted some of his things and if I recall it correctly he had an entire section on his appearance in VCS, so I’d say he probably enjoyed it!
Because young is a bitch. I dont like him anymore..its one thing to go at rockstar but to go after fans of him and not give a fuck because he dont care is where I lost all respect. He deserves what he gets if thats his true personality
@@MysticalReaper Consider in his position when your instagrams are filled with autistic kids asking about the next GTA installments, be mature and understand the whole situation
the reason the modern actors like the ones from Red dead 2 & gta 5 don't complain about their pay like CJ or Niko did is because the laws changed in regards to royalties received from video games
Honestly, we need Claude's actor back. Not only was his performance top notch, but he did it for free because of how much he loved the character. A shame they replaced him in Claude's appearance in San Andreas
Seriously, San Andreas Claude overdid the sex moans over the phone when Catalina calls Carl. The focus was on her being a crazy bitch but he tried to moan over her and make it all about him. It was late in production so they only did one take.
@@HuskyGamersUNITE I vaguely remember hearing something like that. Also apparently he played Soap in the original Modern Warfare? It's honestly pretty cool that he got more gigs after GTA. Def one of the better VAs I've seen.
Omg I love the end song! That’s DataDyne Extraction ! I LOVE Perfect Dark, a game way way ahead of its time 💜🐻 thank you for bringing back those memories 💜🐻🎅
Axl Rose was in GTA: Sanandreas and I think that’s cool af. Especially considering when the time period that game was based in (1992) was also still Axls prime years.
Royalties are still crazy, even nowadays songwriters and compositors don't earn royalties from their own work and labels own everything. It's goddamn crazy
Most of the things you said was correct but I would really love if you uncover more about the other side of stories like why exactly Ray Liotta had problem or the other voice actors such as CJ or Niko. Actually all they wanted was some extra pay since the game did really well and in Hollywood movies they did get extra cut if movie performs well at the box office and it's nothing wrong to ask for it since they did most of the main efforts as the actors they were the main attractions and video games generally takens maximum effort in terms of mocap and acting plus don't forget that games always year after year generate money were as movie is just a one time go. So all and all I believe actors were right asking for extra cut and Rockstar as a billion dollar company could've easily effort. Our favourite characters like Tommy or CJ or Niko didn't appear in future entries simply because actors ask little bit more for the squeal or just some extra pay and Rockstar refuse because they can.
GTA 5s voice actors are just of a generation that understands video games, like know Cara Delevingne plays GTA so she was probably just happy to be there. I know a lot of people (if not all) who play games would love to voice act in a game even if it meant they only got paid in chips.
I coulda swore Ray Liotta was actually happy about working with Rstar, he just jokingly said he wished he asked for more money and Dan Houser got super butthurt about that cause he cant take a joke. come to think of it, do they have to pay every actor again for the remastered Trilogy?
To be honest, Royalties are an important topic that NEEDS to be addressed properly. If the actors you hired MADE your game a huge success, at least have the decency to let them have their piece of the action as well. ESPECIALLY when your game literally makes so much money, it basically finances your next 3 games and keeps making money like crazy. I love actors and respect their talent a lot so i'd forever be grateful for their participation in making something a huge success.
I generally don't put much stock in people bitching about not being paid enough, but the guy who made 100k for 15 months of work while being the lead(?) in the game making about a half a billion dollars IS pretty shitty. The dude was probably living in California, with a top tax bracket of 13%, plus crazy high cost of living, and all the other income taxes, he could probably barely afford rent. That's only 6 grand PRE TAX. probably like 3800 a month after taxes. It IS pretty fucked up that you could be the lead in a half billion dollar venture and not even be able to afford to make ends meet in a shitty apartment. Dude is valid af.
Well I would imagine that hypothetically if I was the voice actor on any rockstar’s games I would’ve had a royalty clause in the contract because I know how popular the game would’ve been
I wonder what Axl Rose felt being a DJ in GTA SA. Especially since he plays sort of a self parody and at the time he was a huge recluse who never left his house at the time.
The dude who played CJ only complained about rockstar because suddenly Rockstar was this monster company because they wouldn't give him more money then he originally agreed to. You signed a contract, if you didn't like it you should have asked for more money up front or not took the deal. Greed is a powerful contributor to hate.
indeed. the actors would have to be idiots if they thought the game wouldnt sell millions and millions of copies too.. their own ignorance to accept a tiny payment and then complain if you ask me.
I never heard about this. Source? I remember reading interviews where he said he was really grateful to R* because it gave him ways to bust the door open for his rap career. Then, more recently, he's not happy about SA anymore because everybody sees him as "CJ" and apparently that's a big issue for him.
I personally think Rockstar should have paid the guy that voiced Niko more. Rockstar knows their games will make millions no matter what. GTA 3 did, Vice City did, and especially San Andreas. With how much San Andreas made they knew GTA 4 would sell well. $100k is pretty low imo, it should have been like $250k - $500k easily since he voiced the main character. That's just my opinion.
Surely when you're offered a job you either accept it or refuse. Moaning later on that the people who employed you are making lots of money is not your concern. I think it would be great to be part of such a massive game. I'm sure many unknown but talented actors would be happy to be involved, with or without a vast pay cheque.
Well its more they don't get any information on the size and scope of the game since all the information is on lockdown and they all sign NDA's prior to work. Impossible for them to properly negotiate. Id be pissed off I was only paid 100k to be the main character in a game with a development cost of 100 million which then made 500 million in its first week. Which you couldn't have known since rockstar wouldn't have told him anything. Voice actors in games get stiffed
This shit that pisses me off is the fact that Nico’s character has more than less voices recorded in the game compared to CJ on gta sa. If anyone should complain it should be Young Maylay.
I notice there is no mention of Katt Williams if whether or not he bitched about getting paid less at all. Plus at the time he was at the top of his game as a stand-up comedian and actor.
Insane that you just ignore all criticism towards Rockstar and blame it on Hollywood. How is it Hollywood's fault that Michael Hollick didnt get a good contract? Rockstar was really scummy for that
Danny Trejo is my favorite actor that my dad got me into watching him my brother who is a couple years older than me had bought a PS2 and Vice City from gamestop got me into video games that resemble the ideas for some of Trejo's movies
