Hi GT Content. What do you think about 2017 or 2018 GTR transmission? If I just keep engine power with stander, this transmission is this ok to use for track day and daily drive both? Thank you.
Nice vid, I just diy'd this service last weekend. Very easy to do. I have some suggestions. #1 Use a different hand pump ($10) for your diff fluid from your transmission fluid (just my paranoia with mixing fluids in an expensive trans) . #2 Replace your fill bolts and crush washers, and use a torque wrench set at correct ft/lbs. #3 Most of my bolts holding the under panels were rusted, so I replaced them all, picked up painted carriage bolts from lowes for the panel under the transmission (M8x1.25 16mm long) diffuser took (M6x1 20mm long and M8x1.25 16mm) I used stainless steel bolts and make sure you pick up washers that have the same footprint as the oem. #4 the trans takes 7qts-8qts if its a drain and refill, no need to buy 10qts unless you are changing sump and line filters. I used jacks transmission fluid $28qt has extra detergents and the change intervals is changed from 18k to 25k.
Ya. Fantastic video! Really excellent to see someone wrenching on a GT-R. Your presentation style is calm, your facts are well researched, your speculation is sensible... I can see this channel hitting the 100K subs with content like this.
ALWAYS confirm you can remove the fill bolt before you drain the fluid, this is more important on older vehicles regardless it's great to get in the habbit to perform such services.
J Low it’s not really for that your supposed to undo the fill first cause if you drain the diff and you can’t get the fill open you can’t refill the diff. and it drains better and faster if u open the fill first
@@donny303 doesn’t matter the age of the vehicle. It’s a PRO tip. You can damage a bolt or it was cross threaded. Either way always secure that you can fill it before emptying.
When you are standing in front of the car, it looks like a tank compared to you. lol Love it! GTR for life and I want to personally thank you for helping me decide on the car I want to get as my next car. It will 100% be a 2013-16 GTR used... perfect for everything that I am looking for.
I asked for this in your last maintanance video.and you delivered..Thanks man great job.almost time for my GTR fluid swap also .Thanks to you I will be able to do it now..Thanks you from one GTR owner to another..
Again thank you. Not a lot of diyers in the gtr community. I will be attempting my first trans fluid change because or your thorough video. Very detailed i love it.
You have the best GT-R owner content by far. Keep the vids coming. I have been watching them like crazy because I have been thinking about trading my 700hp Camaro for a GT-R.
thanks for the vids man.without them i would have been stuck and it would have been a trip to the garage.these vids save me hundreds of pounds.only thing i would add is that i spoke to a chap at ian litchfields ,uk he said that you should change the pan filter and the inline filter everytime you change the trans oil.once you have done this then only the pan filter needs to be changed as the inline can be washed( if you get the right one). cheers
Ok just had this done and it did cost me a huge amount...just following up on how well the transmission fluid worked with your GT-R...thanks! Great video by the way
I just did my oil change, I run stage 1 trans. trans was done at 60k mark, now 82k, car sits from time to time.... had it for few years. I changed the oil and the oil looked pretty good, BUT nope, after changing it, the trans is even smoother! i dont even hear the trans shifting into first gear when coming to a stop like before and shifts are sooooo smooth. :) got 8qt of amazon - they had sale going oin $137 for 8qts of motul.
Thanks for the Video...I'm kind of deciding now, what I should buy as a first real performance car (I only have a JCW atm). The R35 always fascinated me, but I've heard horror stories from people who "know someone with a GT-R" that had to spend 3-4 grand just to get all the oils changed and that there was no possibility to do it on your own. Obviously that scared me out of the GTR, but this video made me interested again to look into the newer models with the new interior. Maybe I won't be buying a ZL1 after all...
That was an option for me as well, but doing all the fluid changes yourself really saves a buck along with getting to know your car firsthand :) besides gtr or go home
That was a great and very helpful video...I was a little nervous when i got my own GTR but i think you have helped me over come some of my fears... so now that you know how to change the the oil and transmission fluid when can i drop off my car...lol
Nice videos dude, I think i've watched almost everything you've put out. Side note, you don't have to hold down the start button, you can just push it once and it'll start up.
Do you have any part numbers for the diff oil and trans oil? Also did you replace the washers on the diff plugs? I'm looking to do this flush on my 2014 and just want to make sure I get everything I need. Great vid!
Hmmmm the Transmission, Front and Rear diff fluid locations look extremely similar to my 2009 Infiniti G37XS. I have a feeling these cars share alot of common parts
Really enjoy your video's you should do a transmission valve body clean it's quite easy and should be done every 3 years as build up stops the pistons traveling there full distance.
GT Content yeah it's straight forward and there's no good descriptive video on RU-vid showing how to do it. It can also save big money on main deal or independent garage prices.
You're welcome. There are some Grade A donkies making RU-vid videos these days (I'm one of em, so don't count me out!). You are one of the few creators out there that is making high quality, professional content. Thank you for all your efforts. I really enjoyed watching and I must say you have a very nice GT-R! Awesome color and it looks like you do a good job of keeping her clean. That's what I like to see.
I made a video on GTR maintenance costs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gCCWg7MVyM8.html You can daily drive a GTR because Nissan originally designed it to be the everyday supercar (dry, gravel, rain, snow). Just be aware that the more wear you put on the car, the sooner your maintenance intervals.
Only problem with changing from OEM fluids is the threat of being denied warranty claims down the road. I have heard Nissan is ruthless when it comes to claims. Great channel man. Subbed!
Just did this about a week ago. The front differential fill nut was a pain in the butt to remove...I did hear from other GTR members that the rear differential fluid amount changed to 1.3 L instead of 1.55L. But I also have been hearing that the factory is still putting 1.55 L when shipped to dealership. People said they are still finding 1.5 L or more when they drain their rear differential. I decided to fill mine like you did..hope it’s all good. But the car has been running great!
taegukgi510 Yes, mine has been doing great even though I didn't follow the 2012+ procedure. The idea is to just to fill adequately and thoroughly bleed the fluid and you should be fine. Car was able to do a 10.8 1/4 mile recently which is documented in my recent import Faceoff video.
A true rite of passage with DIY’ing a GT-R transmission service is to remove the oil pan and valve body. Clean valve body pistons/cylinders and change the line filter. Also, the shifting from 1st to 2nd is old CBA refill procedure. It was changed for DBA GT-Rs.
+GT-R Marine Yes, another method of doing it consists of what you mentioned which is more thorough. I discovered the DBA procedure after I made this video. My transmission shifts great doing it the way I did.
GT Content I also get 3 liters of diff oil when doing the service because I have found the front diff can hold around .8 liters and the rear around 1.5. So that comes out to around 2.2-2.3 liters required. One caveat is Nissan recommends to not fill the rear diff all of the way and only to about 1.3 liters. I have confirmed with a reputable GT-R tech however that filling the rear diff all of the way is fine and I haven’t had any issues in 37k miles.
I'd use the recommended oil since that's what the engineers intended, unless someone else did the experimenting on something else for me lol - if it works it works, can't argue with that haha.
It's totally crazy that the description doesn't clearly list out the materials necessary like: - 10L of Motul xyz for transmission - 2x washer X - 1x washer Y - N liter of diff fluid Also, why not make this super simple and clarify. "The vehicle has 3 fill points, 1 diff at the front, 1 diff at the rear and 1 transmission".
I don't own a GTR.....yet. I have owned various other cars and have used Amsoil and it's a great product. I even sent a sample of my oil to Blackstone Laboratories and they gave me a rundown of how the oil was performing they even gave me an idea of how much longer I could run the oil before needing to change it. Thanks for making this vid. Just a thought if you ever want to get an analysis on your oil here's the link.www.blackstone-labs.com/
At what mileage are you changing out the trans and dif fluids? Awesome video by the way! Love how some people say it can only be done at a stealership... Looks to be like any other car with AWD, right? Just the extra steps of getting the proper level.
Nissan's recommended service interval for the GTR is as follows: 2009-2011: 18,000 miles (due to smaller tubing diameter) 2012+: 36,000 miles Yups, just make sure you have the right tools and it's pretty straightforward 😀.
Hey man thanks a lot for your videos. I am considering a pre-owned Gt-R to purchase, but the only thing that concerns me is the warranty things- are these cars reliable over time when properly cared for, as opposed to let's say an M3, etc... Id assume they are since they are a nissan product but I never hear anyone discuss their reliability over time.. Wouldn't want to finance something that becomes a huge money pit after 50k miles on it.
Toyota has a procedure where if you do that with the ATF Plastic Red leveler that if you need to take it out, you require a allen key or hex socket. Toyota requires that it'd be i think 95F-113F i believe for most vehicle, i'm surprised Nissan just allows to just pour in Fluids and not be at a temperature for the transmission. CORRECTION:** I saw the end of video, it states 122F :S I understand it would make very little difference but to Toyota's eyes it makes the world of difference i guess and yes typically its where the fluid comes out from the drain tube is when its good. I've done these procedures in school and man pain in the ass. If you go over temperature you'll literally have to wait friggin hours or after lunch to do this all over again. I hate this part of this, if it was just to pour fluids in it'd be pretty easy. Guessing because Fluids expand the fluid wants to drain out more than if it were cold, like I said i think it really makes very little sense but always go with FRM. Also another way to do it GT Content is to get a Lisle Dispenser or any dispenser with ticks for measurements and w\e you get out from the trans, mark it on the dispenser then put the drain plug back in the transmission and then pour out old fluids then pour in new fluids in the dispenser to the tick mark and then pump it in transmission/transaxle. Also i believe Stefan's Garage is correct about that statement with the fluid measurement, but I'd just go to where it drips from the filler and also the statement about AWD.
can you please tell me what weight and brand again the gear oil is? I'm seeing the Amsoil gear fluid online but it doesn't say diff fluid. thanks again
Hi great video, will be attempting mine this weekend. Can I ask why you didn't change the two filters within the trans sump whilst changing the oil? Thank you.
Brother I have to ask you something. Repairshops hype up the fact to take of the transmission shift board and clean it, would you recommend that...or in other words...have you ever done that on your GTR? Obviously your GTR is in super good running condition but you never did the mentioned, correct? You only changed the transmission fluid, am I right?
After using the Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-140 are you having any chatter? I've read on the GTRLIFE forum that it was recommended to use the Amsoil Slip Lock? By the way great video.
Just did my front and rear diffs and it cost 75 dollars in motul gear oil and 1.5 hours of time... Nissan gear is made by motul and torco buys motul and rebottles it under the torch label...
Any one here ever use the gear 300? I end really upset with it that I didnt not give a single difference on both performance and the fix for my notchy gears. To me motul was just not worth the money. I will be draining it and putting it in my differential and trying the redline mt90 for my trans.
