Visit the weekly market in the Santa Tere neighborhood. I believe it's twice a week...can't remember. Oh, and not sure if you're both into clubbing anymore but visit Monica's bar for a big ole' gay party night. : )
it's a fun day-trip. Great local art - not imported stuff from China...REAL ART AND CRAFTSMANSHIP! Awesome street food. Skipped the restaurant scene, it was out of my budget. Overall a fun time.
Did you hang out at the Templo Expiatorio for Sunday evening? The plaza comes alive with vendors, food, and dancing. It’s a great spot any evening, but Sunday nights are magical. And you found one of the best rentals in Americana! I’ve stayed in that building several times and have already booked for July.
I spent 3 months in Guadalajara and I also feel like I just scratched the surface, lol. I definitely think that exploring all of the public art, sculptures, and monuments is one of the most enjoyable things to do there. Some places I recommend to check out on your next trip are Bosque los Colomos, Parque Mirador/Barranca de Huentitan, Zapopan centro, Chapalita, and a day trip to Lake Chapala.
Just beautiful video guys on so many levels. 1st. because like I told you before Guadalajara was my home for ten years and it was the city where I truly felt comfortable being gay for the first time after coming out in college in California. 2nd because the videography is awesome in this vid...such amazing editing! 3rd, which is really 1st on an intellectual level is that as a political science and Latin American Studies major you took the time and the effort to read or simply look up historical facts to narrate the video as you visited the different locations in the city...fuerte abrazo to you both for that because so many travel youtubers are too lazy and just post useless crap. Keep it up!
Aw thanks so much for those kinds words! And yes - we love educating ourselves (and hopefully others) on some of the cool stuff we get to experience. Thanks again for watching and glad you're enjoying them!!
Guys, I was born there and am currently in the process of tying loose ends to move back to gdl, you should totally move there! The weather is generally amazing with rain in the afternoons, the biggest lgbtq+ community is in gdl and the food is ahhhmazing! Trust me, you won’t regret it!! Especially in the area you’re in. Also try the empanadas from Tlaquepaque 😉
Love love this video! My husband and I just sold our home and are moving to the Baja! Your an inspiration and we have been watching your videos from the beginning. You both Rock! We both look forward to your videos on Thursday. Thank you again and keep up the great work. You both are wonderful together.
I was in tlaquepaque in día de muertos! It was gorgeours and had many Catrinas all over, I recomend going to tequila, if youblike to drink (tequila) it is actualmente legal to drink on the street
Guadalajara is a 6-million-people vibrant lively metropolis. Modern areas with huge malls and skyscrapers, subway lines, and good highways are blended with history, art, beautiful old architecture, food, music and more. The people are almost always warm and frienly. There are tons of places to go within and around the big city. Chapala, Ajijic, Tequila, the impressive zoo, to mention but a few. Guadalajara is cosmopolitan and traditional. Has it all.
Loved this video. I had no idea that Guadalajara had such an arts scene. Enjoyed your bike share rental story. I like Merida but it seems like it’s too small for a big arts scene. (Then again I did buy some great art there. 😀)
We live in Puerto Vallarta and just came back from a trip to Guadalajara. We fell in love as well and are looking at rentals. Thank you for your videos.
Awww this was such a heartwarming video. I’ve never thought about using a bike share system there, thanks for doing the hard work for us. I hope that you return to making videos (a LOT of people like to travel to SoCal - you don’t have to jump on a plane to make videos for us 😉)
Looks like a perfect sized city, not too big, not too small, and also not too hot or cold. Plenty to see and then there are day trips to places like Lake Chapala and not too far for a bus ride to the coast either.
wow - you two just hit the best of the city. I love Guadalajara because I tend to meet people from all over the world, who are attending university. Making it such a great international destination. I love Mexican food, but not every night. Great Korean food and Ramen joints to try. And all the wonderful urban coffee joints. I'm enjoying your lens of Guadalajara. You're enjoying the full city not just the touristy areas. Being bike friendly, and what I would call a very progressive city, reminds me of home, (the good parts of Portland Oregon). It's my favorite city in Mexico!! And you two highlight it so well. Great vlog! The cathedral you're standing in front of at the end of the vlog (I should remember the name) has a wonderful weekend market and food vendors on the weekend. It's a great place to hang out in the evening....dancing, family friendly, did I mention the food? It really comes alive.
Thank you so much for the MiBici tutorial! I'll be in GDL for a week next month and I hadn't really thought much about how I'd need to set that up. I'll definitely get an annual pass before I leave so I can set it up once I arrive.
Loved Your Tour of GDL! I used to have a place in El Centro, near Mercado Alcade. Mibici is a lifesaver if you don't have a car. If you do have a car, there are safe pay per hour/day garages everywhere. The cost of living is Guadalajara is HALF of what I pay currently in Vallarta...from living expenses to food to travel...super afforfable big city living. A great day trip is to San Juan Cosala ln Lake Chapala. They have numerous natural hot springs on the lake! Day passes are available and reasonably priced. Also, Guadalajara is home to a major International Film Festival every year on/near the University campus. So much talent from around the world gathers to showcase their films. You'll never run out of things to do there. Make sure to go to the gay club 'Babel' in El Centro...a great mix of people and good times. ~Salud You Two 🙏🏼
I guys, I'm happy to see you continue to enjoy Guadalajara. If you think Tlaguepague has crafts and artisans you should try to get to Tonala. The tianguis market there will set your hearts a flutter and the artisans there must be some of the best in the world. Enjoy you stay here.
It clearly looks like (both) your entire beings resonate with Guadalajara. 💡DO IT ALL! You had me at cooler weather. I say move and give us all the vids you feel like in 4-6 months (about the lifestyle there & stuff). Then move back IF you want. No kidz No pets = WEEeee MOBILE!✨👍🏽😊🎶✨❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✨👍🏽😊🎶✨❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 'go anywhere do anything at anytime' ....
gdl looks so fun and I love how y'all are adding more editing tricks as you make new videos. really liked the historical voice over info! some of my fave youtubers either never say what they are looking at or they say "over there it looks to be a church, not sure what it's called..." ha! still love em, but is it so hard to read a plaque and then tell us what we're looking at? great job as always, fellas!
Great video, you should try to visit next time, Tequila, Guadalajara Zoo, Metropolitan Park,Colomos Forest, Barranca de Huentitán, Chapala, Ajijic Tonalá, take the subway, see the murals of Cultural Institute Cabañas, Chapalita, Providencia and the luxury part Andares
Just discovered your videos.I really like your presenting style.I’m planning on going over to Mexico for 6 months next year so doing plenty of research before I go and your vids have been very helpful. Thanks guys!
I was born in a place where personal preferences were respected, so people were able to express fully. It wasn't a perfect place because it was colonized, but i got the best vibe. I know I am never satisfied with just monochromatic way of living here in the US. How I wish you are in mainstream TV! You are so delightful to see. You tell the truth so gracefully and are just fun overall. Thank you.
There was a restaurant with ample seating in the back where I had some of the best, most flavorful shrimp stew / soup ever! I have forgotten the name. Tlaquepaque was gorgeous! Next time, please show the sculpture of Miguel Hidalgo leading the people to freedom! Loved this vid, thanks!
Thanks for another interesting vlog! I really liked seeing Tlaquepaque! I need to do some serious research on it as a possible place to live. Glad to see you enjoying yourselves so much!
I hope you guys are visiting Tequila while in GDL! It’s a must even if you don’t drink so you can appreciate the Tequila making process & the very unique landscape!
We hope to retire in Queretaro, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Morelia, Puebla, or San Cristobal de las Casas. We hope you make videos on all those cities please ! 😉
Thank you so much for this amazing video of my hometown! Haven’t been there in so long it almost feels I’m not even from there anymore! Lol. Trying to decide whether moving to beautiful (and reportedly “the safest city”) Mérida or just going back to my so big (and maybe not so safe?) but so fantastic Guadalajara from the US. Puerto Vallarta is also on the list. So hard to decide! Subscribed. 🇲🇽👍👍
Your hometown is amazing! And yes - there are so many great places here, it's tough to decide where to end up (which is why we're going to keep traveling for a bit!)
Fun fact guys (talking about age): Mexico in general is a very “young” country with a median age of 28; in CDMX it’s 27. My guess is that since GDL is an economic center, it also attracts the young ppl just starting their careers. By comparison, the U.S. median age is 38, Western Europe ~45 and places like Germany & Japan with a rapidly graying population-> 47!!
How are you guys managing without knowing much Spanish? As you travel from place to place it would be interesting to hear about the differences of where it is easier to get by with English and where it is more of a struggle
Thanks so much for the Bike tutorial! Got frustrated the last time I tried and just gave up (focus/details are not my strength :( ) ... Plan to head back to the city next week ... look forward to using the bikes this time!
Hi guys. I lived in Gaydalajara for 8 years. I missed very much GDL. I am glad you liked what is considered by many Mexicans to be Mexico's gay capital.
