Park Junkie took the opportunity to drive to the Williams Ranch during a recent visit to Guadalupe Mountains National Park in West Texas.
The Williams Ranch Road is gated and locked, but a key can be acquired from the National Park Service at the Pine Springs Visitor Center.
The route to the ranch is pretty straightforward, and the road was in pretty good shape as of February 2021. The park service requires a 4x4 for travel on the route, and the Toyota Tacoma faired well on the journey.
For a complete guide to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, check out the Park Junkie Guide to Guadalupe Mountains.

If you enjoy touring national parks, consider subscribing to the Park Junkie channel. I have currently visited 57 of 63 parks, and am hoping to hit the remaining 6 in the next year and will be documenting the journey.
Thanks for watching!

I'm a Guadalupe Mountains junkie. That Western face of the Guads is so awesome. I havent been out on that side of the mountains in a few years. Such an underrated part of the park. Thanks for the video. For sure the best video of Williams Ranch Road.

Hey thanks! Agreed, that place is spectacular! I always enjoy a sunset at the sand dunes too. It is an underrated park all the way around. I make a trip every year. Thanks for watching! Cheers

Thanks for the feedback... I often wonder if I should recruit Snoop Dogg to do my music... but he has not replied to my requests... yet.

That’s a great rig with the Toyota & the truck camper- would love to see how your set up works. Great video 👍

Thanks for watching! I love the Tacoma combined with the FWC for nimble overland travel. There are more comfy rigs, but they usually can't follow this one... I'll do a home tour video at some point when I get some free time!

Cool part of the park I've never seen. I been on top of Quadalupe Peak twice. If memory serves there's a monument on top courtesy of the founder of Southwest airlines and an ammo can with a summit log to sign.

Yep, cool summit for sure! Top of Texas... & that monument, while not natural, is actually pretty cool. Here is a video of my trip to the summit! Been up there three times! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ut5k8e6QvYs.html

Did Black Bear Pass, Imogene, & Clear Lake in a stock 17 Taco so this should be easy. Those views are amazing!

You got this... it is easy... but it’s a great getaway from the hustle & bustle of Pine Springs. 😎 Enjoy

You were probably one of the last few people to drive Williams Ranch Road. It's been closed since the summer of 2021 after it got severely washed out by rain. NPS claims it's currently impassable even in a 4x4. They aren't even allowing hikers to use it. May be a long time before it reopens. Thanks for the video.

No kidding? Hmmm I would say hike it, but it's a long day, that's for sure. I think there is a trail down from the mountain to the Williams Ranch though. But that would be a backpacking trip, for sure. Thanks for the update!

@@theparkjunkie From info I read on NPS website, it's closed to hikers too. Closed to all public access.

@@wtxrailfan Weird… I wonder what is going on out there. I often find it frustrating when hiking options are limited due to “hazardous conditions”… I mean, how bad can it be on foot…? 🫣

@@theparkjunkie I hiked the El Capitan trail from Pine Springs out to Williams Ranch just last month (April 2024). You ARE allowed to go there by THAT route. Yes it was long, about 11 mile of a hike one way and I backpacked it staying at Shumard campground. The house looks exactly like it does in the video and locked up. I saw another video of the road in and it WAS severely messed up in several places - the ranger I spoke to also confirmed that, so the ROAD remains closed to everyone on foot or vehicle. Thank you for the video though! Do you still have the same Tacoma/camper setup?

Do you know if dual-sport motorcycles are allowed out to the Williams cabin?

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this road is now closed to all travel. I wouldn’t expect it to be open any time soon. www.nps.gov/thingstodo/gumo_drive_to_williams_ranch.htm

Was 4x4 really necessary? Or did you just stayed in 2wd the whole time? Lol really curious to know
@theparkjunkie
@theparkjunkie 2 года назад
I would say that in my truck, 2x4 would be good the entire way, but the high clearance is definitely necessary. Don’t plan on driving it in 2x4 however, as the NPS requires 4x4 in order to issue the permit, which gives you a key to the gate…
