On the USS Stennis, pilots prepare for another mission over the Pacific. It s all part of Operation Valiant Shield, a demonstration that America is present , explains Capt. Bradley. No one here will admit it but the deployment of 30 warships and several hundred combat aircraft is aimed at making China take note. It s the biggest show of American power in the Pacific for 30 years. Along with Operation Valiant Shield, Washington intends transforming the island of Guam into a 21st century fortress. This is the largest transfer of forces in the history of the military , explains Cpt. Robert Lee. The base will cost an estimated $15 bn.

@@xeji4348; If they're so angry why do they still Serve in our Armed Forces?. Guam, The Philippines, The Marshal Islands and PR were ceded to The USA after The Hispano-American War of 1898. The Philippines received their Independence after WW2,(and We still have bases and forces deployed for their defense). The Marshal Islands sometime later as an "Associated Republic",(wich still use our currency and their defense is under our Armed Forces), however Guam as the Island of PR are currently territories of the USA, their population are Citizens of our Country and have made extremely valuable contribution in times of War. Their Sacrifice won't be forgotten. Guam are very dedicated Servicemembers while PR has provided some of the best Infantrymen in our Armed Forces and for that We're extremely grateful. We'll Protect these territories to the best of our ability and then some, they are our Citizens and they've earned it. While any person serves in our Country's Military are all Brothers, it doesn't matter the branch of Service. The enemy ammunition doesn't discriminate between branches of our Brothers. Semper Fi!.

Guam is truly a super base but being a super base its also a juicy target. That's why US military is introducing a new concept of small dispersed bases or outposts which will be relocatable and not easy to target and destroy. But that aside Guam is strategically extremely important since it can only be targeted by ballistic missiles, any fighter jet force would be annihilated way before it got an opportunity to fire its weapons upon Guam.

The commander of the carrier,,,,,,,,,,who does he think he is kidding. Also the carrier is not defensive, it launches air craft to attack, it did in Iraq, Afghan, and everywhere else it has engaged. If war were to break out with China or Russia, do you want to be on a Carrier? It is used in the commanders words,,,,as an intimidation tool. In reality it would go down , horrifically.

Guam is part of what the PRC called "Di San Dao Lian"/"The 3rd Island chain", according to an article I translated published in the PLA magazine "Naval and Merchant Ships". This was way back in 1990. They consider it part of their outer sphere of influence. They are patient and believe in long term planning. So take your pick Guam, the USA or China? Guam has NEVER ruled itself unless you want to go back to pre-Spanish. It's been a colony one way or the other for 500 years.

I do not think that China would be foolish enough to engage with the US on a large scale front. China's behaviors in the SCS are very worrisome, mostly for the bordering nations that are being "colonized" . The US is trying to shore up these countries, and that almost always spells: military assistance. When diplomatic entreaties fail, limited hell will break out. I do not think the US is foolish enough to engage with China on a large scale front. I am relying on cooler heads to prevail in this (these) situations.

All this talk about a US China war that is never going to happen. Both of our economies would collapse. China would suffer bloody internal revolt like they have never seen and the US would have to declare martial law and start from scratch. it would get so bad in each country, we would be too busy trying to survive internally to be fighting wars externally. There will most certainly be a trade war, that is a given but a military war? nope. not happening. The most likely major world conflict to come anytime soon will involve Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Russia. The US is going to set the stage for that one, then sit it out and Russia will be the country who comes out on top of that one.

In today's asymmetrical war paradigm USA is no more superior. In fact there is not much difference between the 3 big powers - Russia, China and USA. The reason is missile technology and nuclear war heads had already made all the other hardware obsolete. The relatively cheap and low maintenance of aircraft carrier killer missiles had practically neutralise the USA 10 carriers at 1 millionth the costs. Missiles can reach Guam base in minutes. even with a missile defence system they can be overwhelmed. And the satellite killer missiles will take down all the navigational satellites at the start of the war rendering all the high tech navigational system of USA fighters and ships practically useless. That is why Russia and walked into Crimea and all USA can do is to make some noise. Better learn to live in a multi polar world. USA can no longer tell others what to do if they do not like to do it.

seriously? thats the choice of words they used: 2:25 - "... serves just one purpose. To impose Washington's will..." 2:44 - His choice of words are a little better but still Military presence in aggression. An aircraft carrier represents aggression. 4:11 - Such an ass. These guys do not represent my interests at all as an American citizen. Look at his smile. So naive and foolish. That's a captain speaking? Thats the commanding officer? Its like bringing rottweilers to somebody's house and telling them you want peace and security in the region. A show of force is a request for submission from the other party. Peace is not the message they are delivering. You don't bring a gun if you don't intend to use it. You don't point it at anybody if you don't intend to shoot. A dog barks when its scared. To me bringing in 3 carriers means the Military is scared. Its barking and barking.

quest 34667 I guess Washington is not representing me, its acting on its own. But still the strength of an officer comes from the soldiers. The obedience of a soldier is weights a lot more then a vote on a valot. If the soilders there are doing things against their will I guess more serious issues exist. You are saying we don't have a volunteer military. You imply that Washington is controlling you and your fellow soldiers. If that is sooo I recommend you file for conscientious objectors and leave the military. I'll tell you what, you have my pity. You and your fellow soldiers got yourselves into a muddy situation. I understand that sometimes it takes more courage to leave the military then to obey orders. hopefully God takes charge and dissolves any potential bloody situations before you have to do your job.
