Jose Marti was born in January 28 1853, when he was 17 years old, he was exiled from Cuba, for being in the Cuban librarition movement, He was the greatest writer in the Spanish language, he wrote over 70 books and poems. In 1894 he came back to Cuba to frigh for independence from Spain. Guantanamera was his last pome he would write. for within a year, he would be killed in a filed uprising. In Guantanamera, one of favorite verse is, a mountain stream pleased me more then the ocean. Thank you Sarah.

I probably have watched this video 20 or more times over the past few years. It is so rich in flavors of talent. I just love every part of it. Playing for Change has so many videos I love and it has such a wonderful purpose.
I loved seeing you get caught up in the rhythm and the melody right away. It IS a very catchy tune. The lyrics mostly were written by Jose Marti, the gretaest poet in Cuba and one of the biggest in the Spanish language world. Verses have been added since it was made into a song (it is, originally, a poem) by people improvising as they sing . I never get tired of listening to this and this video always brings tears to my 76 year old eyes . One day Cuba will be free again ,
I love "Guantanamera" and sometimes when I am in the kitchen cooking dinner for my wife I sing it to make the work flow along. My wife does not speak Spanish but she likes the song too.💫 Another Cuban classic is "Cuando Sali De Cuba", could you make a reaction video of this song also. Thanks🌹🌻🌼
This is a Cuban folklore song, Guantanamera is a girl/woman from Guantanamo. This is a nice cover, you should check out Bésame Mucho by The Beatles, a Mexican folklore song.
I’ve never heard this version or about the people who arranged this; this is all new to me. Of course, I know the song: I grew up with the Sandpipers version and loved it. This is very impressive too.
Guantanamera is almost entirely improvisational. The only constant is the chorus which is about a girl from Guantanamo. The verses can be whatever you like. It is most common to sing poetry written by Cuban national hero Jose Martí. And because what Martí wrote was so patriotic in nature the song itself has become a patriotic song. Almost like a a second national anthem for Cuba.

Growing up, my best friend was Cuban. His Family fled Cuba when Castro invaded. So at a young age, I was exposed to this song and the resilience of the Cuban people. That man is still my best friend 60 years later. This song is so positive and optimistic despite all of their toil and loss. I have always loved it. Thank you for doing this!
