even with a lot of experience 1 week is phenomenal! That test was definitely robust. I finished it in 2 weeks with zero experience or background knowledge. . . but now I'm going over the material over and over again.
Congrats!!...and thank you...but like what i said i would never do it again like that. also you not done....dont forget you have to renew it in ever 3 years. Im here to help with that too :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7o3uYQ9w-1k.html
Thanks for the advice. I just passed the Sec+ exam (first try!) with just three weeks of studying and I did it by studying from multiple sources (study guide from Amazon, videos, practice tests, attending live study groups and reading Wikipedia articles).
I am studying to take the Security+ exam. My online university has provided the ucertify material. As my second learning source I bought the Comptia Certmaster Practice. Comptia makes the exam, so I figured I would go with them. :) Thanks for the tip about the port numbers.
No problem. Make sure to do the practice questions. Doing two materials will really help bring it all home and make more since. If you give yourself a lot of time you should also check out some of the free materials out there to.
Go through Comptia and keep up on your CEUs and it will maintain your certification without having to retake the exam again. Thank you for the tips as I'm now retaking the test after letting it expire.
Thank you for this information boss. Your tip about having multiple sources is the best tip I have heard from anyone I have listened to. Thank You and I will make sure to do it.
@@TheGamersKitchen I will let you know :). I am planning on taking it with in the next 2 weeks. I will use those practice test links and some other ones I have found as well
@@TheGamersKitchen Hey man, here to let you know I passed the exam today on my first try with 780. I ended up taking the test much later than I had planned because I didn’t feel comfortable enough and I was a little scared to be honest because of so many horror stories I read online😅. I used a multitude of resources like you said which I know helped me soooo much. Again thanks a lot for that advice. I appreciated your content.
@@yosephguta4983 CONGRATS!!!! Yes I know...I also seen all that horror stories. I am very happy that I could help. BUT your journey is just beginning...in 3 years you will need to renew it.. Now i made a video to help you along as well...but dont wait to the end of the 3 years to renew... My video to help you ---> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7o3uYQ9w-1k.html
I just passed SY0-501 a few days ago. I studied for about 3 weeks. That worked for me, but like you, I've been working in IT for a very long time. I think for many people (most people?) it would be better to spend more time prepping. I can't agree enough on the "don't just use one source" thing. Since nobody *actually* knows what is going to be on the exam, or how it will be structured, you really, really, really need to hear this stuff from different angles. I used one book, one book of practice questions from Wiley/Sybex, the Professor Messer videos on RU-vid, and the Security+ course on ACloudGuru / LinuxAcademy. The online quiz builder / practice exam feature that came with the Wiley/Sybex practice questions book really helped a lot. For anybody doing Security+ in the future (it would be 601 now, BTW, as 501 was retired as of last Saturday), I recommend getting the Wiley/Sybex practice exams book, register it on their website, and use their practice exam facility. I also bought some practice exams on Udemy, but I ran out of time (see above about the exam being retired) and never got around to using them. Luckily it didn't matter in the end and I still passed with a comfortable margin.
Refactoring, that has been explained completely different in every single place. They all apply, but everyone leaves out what the other site mentions. Watch more than one source. Great advice.
when i was doing the training and training to understand for the first time it was hard...when i started to watch a 2nd source more lights were coming on and it was getting clear.
Thank You, I haven't taken the test yet but I'm almost doing that, I haven't taken any Comptia Test and i didn't know what to expect, now I have a clearer picture after searching and ultimately stumbling across this video.
Good Luck, make sure to try out the Practice Test Questions. and if you a time try to use a different source it will help even if you don't get all the way though.
@@TheGamersKitchen Update: I passed! I definitely checked out Professor Messer and bought his practice exams and study notes. It was well worth the price.
@@MayBird97 I was on thinking about this as well since $100 seems like a bargain for what you get. I am getting ready to start my journey on this, as I am almost finished with my first bachelors. I have Darrell Gibson's book as well. Any other suggestions that lead to your success?
Congratulations To you, I am studying for it now and I have dyslexia. It's been very challenging for me. So any advice you can give is good for me. Thank you.
I also have a form of dyslexia. My advice is to take your time. Read the questions slowly and a 2nd time to make sure you understand and that you read the question correctly. Mark the LAB questions to do last....they eat up most of the time. When you get there, you will start to feel the pressure before you start just close your eye and breath. You got this...just beath and take it slow.
Thanks for the tips Arch! I actually took the test 3 years ago but failed. It was very discouraging. I'm also in the IT field (specifically support) and have now got the motivation to get back on the horse. I am committing to really study and soak in the material. I will definitely check your recommendations with Linkedin Learning and Udemy!
Nice...my advice take your time. Study the way you learn the best, is that watching videos or reading and then find a 2nd source. You will start to see it all come together and good luck.
@@trapOrdoom I've been in support purgatory for the longest time and finally got into a different role. Never been happier career-wise. Passing the Sec+ definitely helped. Good luck in your journey!
im going thru total seminars at the moment and will look into professor Messer. Only thing that is concerning to me is where to practice the simulation questions/ performance based as total seminars doesn't have it but it does go through the multiple choice. Thanks!
well...for the retake sometimes you can buy a combo voucher that comes with 1 retake. When i was looking at it...the combo voucher was like $200 on top of the $350. so i didn't do that. I did the voucher that was only good for 2 weeks, so i saved money. Its up to you...if you fail you saved if you pass then you wasted money.
Great...thanks for asking.. And yes i have renewed. I actually renewed about 2 months after I passed the test. I made a video on getting it renewed and i hope it helps you too... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7o3uYQ9w-1k.html
@@TheGamersKitchen I totally understand but the point I’m making is if the person already in the field or doing a cyber security course they can do this quickly . Some people like myself who doesn’t got the experience or in the IT world got to take the exam at a later time in the year . Not making you look bad or nothing . Glad you pass it and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors . Blessings🙏🏽
@@tonyasmithe I agree with you...even in my video i said i do not recommend anyone doing what i did. You need to take your time. The only reason i did it in a week was my voucher was only good for a week due to i didn't pay full price for it.
Can't you just earn CEU's so you don't have to sit for the exam again? Every other profession is like that. Currently, I am a registered dietitian getting ready to switch careers and us (RD's)/nursing, etc just have to use professional sources to keep our education current. I have to earn 75 credits over 5 years in order to NOT have to ever take that horrendous exam again. You should look into that - I find a lot of free CEU's through government agencies as well. For my profession, we also have conferences that might last 3 or 4 days and we can earn all of our CEU's sitting through those courses. Bam!
Unfortunately in I.T. its not like that. There are many classes out there but the Certs show and prove that you know it. Many Certs cost a lot due to they are good in many countries.
@@TheGamersKitchen Google "do you have to take the Comptia exams every three years". I tried to screen shot the answer but my phone isn't allowing the paste. There are several ways to earn CEs so you don't have to sit for the exam again including earning a higher level cert if you want. I remember looking into this because these national exams are too stressful for me to have to do that.
@@gibsonnutrition9319 Your CompTIA Security+ certification is good for three years from the date you pass your certification exam. Through our continuing education (CE) program, you can easily renew CompTIA Security+ and extend it for additional three-year periods. I stand corrected.... www.comptia.org/continuing-education But most people here has not even gotten it once like me...this was my first time. so the continuing education will not work for them.
@@TheGamersKitchen understandable... I just didn't want YOU to think you (or me) had to go through that stress every three years. I bet there are other ways to get CEs without Comptia prices as well. 😉 I would NEVER want to take the registered dietitian exam again and this exam sounds like it's set up the same way. Thanks for grabbing that excerpt!
I was trying to buy the entire course on Linkedin Learning. However, I didn't see how to purchase it other than the price for each individual course (section). Could you tell me how you were able to watch all the videos or did you have to pay as you watched them?
they don't have a pay per video or anything like that. they only have a subscription www.linkedin.com/learning/subscription/products if you have not used it yet they do have a 1 month trial.
What is the name of the course???? I see that Mike Chapple has many many Security + courses on the LinkedIn platform. which one is is being referred to in this video? Thanks in advance.
@@TheGamersKitchen Got a 657 today. Studied for about a month and some change. Going to buy daryl gibson book and listen to professor messer vids for about 2 months and see if that works.
Hey man, Just curious did the certificate get you anywhere, Are you now in an IT role. I'm currently training form my compTIA Security + and just need some reassurance that this is a good move in terms of progressing my career.
I have been in IT for over 30 years. so did getting this cert help me? well...i only got this cert due to the job. I work for the government and you have to have S+ to work there. You need to look at what part of the IT field you want to go in and look at the job you want. Certs will always help you out as long as you have the experience to back it up. if it comes down to two people for the job one with the experience and one with the cert and experience which one you thin is going to get it?
@@TheGamersKitchen well I know I definitely am going down the cybersecurity route I have previous experience with IT in terms of what I've studied (Btech) I'm just looking to get my foot in the door and trying to make myself stand out to everyone else. But thanks for the info and video man I'm following your advice and going through mike chappels series of videos on linked in! :)
@@TheGamersKitchen I will :D when i'm through with the linked-in i'm going to watch professor messers videos aswell to make sure I have full understanding of everything I need to know :D
You are fine. You will need to be able to read everything on the test. On what level I would use the Practice Test Questions to see the level. Also I would look at trying to get it all in the language is best for you. But if you are unable to take is in the language you want use the Practice Test Questions to help give you the level you need to be at. I hope this helps.
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything that would let me try some. if you go to simulation.comptia.org/ it will show you what to expect. My advice when taking the test. mark them and skip them and do them last. On test I had 3 and one of them was reading hash logs and fingering out witch file was hacked.
you have to take it at a testing center..I'm not going to lie, it is stressful. you need to get a voucher and once you buy voucher you call the testing center to setup when you take your test. I got my voucher from getcertified4less.com/ look around you may get a deal. Also when you go take your test....breathe...don't stress...mark and skip the performance questions..come back to them last....and breathe.
@@TheGamersKitchen great, I've been working desktop support and recently completed the google IT cert, learned a lot, but wouldn't really recommend it. Now studying for the security+. You should make some more videos on your progress or something along those lines, would be cool to see.
It depends...Like if you want to work for the government where i am at they will not even talk to you unless you have it. its around $60,000 and up depending on your experience. There are other jobs i have seen that want you to have it but it will come down to your experience.
@@TheGamersKitchen Thank you for reply. Last year in March I started technical IT school. They had us started with Microsoft Certifications MTA 98-366 networking and 98-367 security, both books by Darril Gibson. So far I finished first and second certificate, and two weeks ago we started security+. SY0-501 book has almost 600 pages and what I think I would like to have at least 300 hours to prepare before exam, read book, udemy, cybrary and proffesor messer videos. However my teacher says I should already look for a job with first two certs and meanwhile study security plus. WHat do you think it's better way to do it? What teacher says or to complete security+, get rid of school and just focus on job after? Thanks a lot by the way, I appreciate you!
@@omicronceti6063 You cant not beat real world experience. You will find that what you learn in school is not how it really goes in the real world. This is something only you can answer. I would first look at what jobs are open around you and what they are looking for. If you find one you like and If you need money and real world experience I would get a job. Also talk to the hiring person and let them know you are working to get your S+. You may find that they may pay for it...or you may find that there is no need for it on that roll. Remember this...Certs may get your foot in the door but experience will take you farther.
@@TheGamersKitchen Btw, I forgot to ask you, would you mind if you explain the difference between school and real world experience? I knew it ain't the same, but since I don't have working experience, for me it's hard to figure out. The only thing I can say, after all this studying even though that I know all the terms, port numbers, protocols, ipv4 and 6 addresses, CIA triad, names of attacks and so on, I only feel confident to come out for the interview. If someone would put me in the cubicle, I would not know to do anything. I don't wanna say I feel like complete idiot, but I'm sure experience will change me and bring me confidence. If you can just give me some tips for the interview and once I start real life job, I would appreciate it a lot, and this can help others who ever read this. Thank you!
