Brilliant Chris! I’ve always just concentrated on the distance from the flag and not thought of the hazard or back of the green. These extra distances give you a clearer picture.

Good solid advice, how often do I take dead aim but I know I should aim to the left of target to allow for left to right flight🙄

True Dion, the theory is easy to understand...... but doesn’t stop us all being too aggressive from time to time 👍

Love it pal. Best thing I did a few years ago is start to do my gapping distances at the start of the season for my carry distances. So like you, I use my Bushnell to zap the flag and then I’ll use Arccos for front, middle or back but the beauty with Arccos is I can gps over any hazards I may need to take into account. Us amateurs really need to know our carry distances for hybrids down to wedges, and it’s something that’ll save us so many shots,

Chris, you are referring to spin on the ball in approach shots. We gals so not get as much spin so please address what club we should use at a typical airtight for us; 65-80 yards out. Super common distance for us.

Once again, are you looking at my notes for next year? To play more intelligent golf? Do you think it is wise to aim for the larger part of a green where it is open and then try to draw or fade it towards the pin? Or just try to hit it to the safe part and let the chips fall where they may?

Happy new year chris , having read 78tags comment & your response i think the best thing i can do is get myself down the range and look at my dispersion rate , the fly in the ointment for me being how slope plays a part in increasing the diameter of the dispersion , great vid
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 3 года назад
Thanks Robert, I can see his points and always take on feedback. The title is a little different for me, but that is because I 100% believe that this would help every single golfer hit more greens. Most people don’t know their typical dispersion, understandably as it’s hard to figure out, but that knowledge alone can be huge when trying to hit more greens. I would absolutely do what you said and try to establish your dispersion with various clubs, that into on the course it so so key.... can often be more powerful than a swing change 👍

Sound advice Chris, got any advice on how to estimate wind and assessing what club to hit? Hitting into, wind behind etc. I often get uncomfortable hitting 3 or 4 clubs more and thinking i'm going to overcook it!

Best part of this vid is that it applies to all. No matter your skill level. I really think this builds on confidence. I am certain that the guys I play with, 6-28 handicaps do not go through this drill, perhaps better phrase, "prep-up". Gives you a mental bubble--you're not trying to play someone else's game. You're playing within your skill level, and focusing on what YOU can do, not the other guy. Thanks again, Chris. Cheers, and a belated Happy New Year! Rich

@@ChrisRyanGolf how do you decide how much the wind (particularly) will effect a shot, and how much to compensate? Is it just through practice and experience? I played a hilly course recently in the wind and I hit a 7 iron that my Garmin watch tracked at 217 metres with roll (it was on the fairway and it’s summer here in Aus so plenty of roll downhill). But that’s close to 240 yards! My regular 7 iron goes about 165m. Thanks

At my course only 2 holes where I am within 110m for second Most of other holes second shots on par 4 holes are around 145 to 195m. Means I am hitting hybrids or 5w in. Am I better to lay up short and chip on in these, rather than go with longer club into bushes or bunkers.

Hole19 is a great app for yardages to the front, middle and back of the green. It also has a pointer you can move around to get yardages to bunkers and ditches or rivers on any part of the hole.

Plenty of golfers out there in that situation, best option is always to head to the centre of the green, as soon as you begin to see some patterns then you can adjust this 👍

If your goal is to hit the green in regulation, why scope the flag at all? Why wouldn't you just look at your GPS watch, use the middle of the green distance, and hit toward the fattest part of the green?

Sorry, Chris - this is the first video I've seen you make that is a waste of time for me. All of your videos to this point have been very helpful. I'm a good enough golfer to perform all the tasks you have just described, (and I actually do all of those things) but I don't have the skill to pull off the shot. I think anyone that can hit this shot with some regularity, probably doesn't need to be told any of this. Your title on this one was a bit of clickbait. I've never seen you do that before.
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 3 года назад
Thanks for watching and appreciate your views. It’s great that you already do all of these things on every shot, you are certainly in the minority. I’ve coached for over 20 years and don’t think that I’ve come across anyone who can hand on heart say that they do this on every shot. Can I ask out of interest what your shot dispersion is in yards from 125yds?

@@ChrisRyanGolf 78tag doesn't have a clue what his dispersion is! That's why he hasn't responded to you for his negative post of your video. I appreciate the process that you have outline, and while I know my iron distances, I really haven't focused on completely understanding my dispersion. Something I will work on!
