Hey SwitchUp Family - here’s a dive in to the absolutely free ARPG Guardian Tales. Hopefully, this will give you some indication of whether it’s worth your time or not! Mark
@@thegoodtalk283 I.... wonder if you watched the video? He mentions his original comments on the game several times. He also said he originally played for about 45 min, and this dedicated video is based on over 5 hours of play time. Not to mention, it's not like this is some gushing tribute - he just said, with some extra time spent with the game, seems like it's more enjoyable than originally thought. No need to question their honestly here.
This game came out of nowhere back in 2020 and it was awarded as the most popular game by Google Play awards. The story is such a rollercoaster. The drama and the comedy are insane. They also have a lot of references to pop culture. My favorite is the Magic School where they reference Harry Potter a lot and it was hilarious!
Irchagaming and switchup are my favorite channels for honest, reliable reviews these days. This freebie game being a perfect example of things I wouldn't have known about unless I was a fan! Keep it up!
Your channel is doing so well because you make quality content, and quality content creates word-of-mouth. Any time I see you guys mentioned outside of RU-vid it's always positive.
I've been kinda hooked on this game since watching this video a couple of days ago. I'm honestly blown away on how much content this game offers and I've yet to pay a penny for any of it. I think it puts a lot of other games to shame. You put out real quality content and it's these types of videos keeps me coming back. I really hope you continue to experience success and growth. It's well deserved.
I'm playing in mobile for 7 months now, I've maxed out more than 10 units(uniques) without paying real life money. Plus the story only gets better. Probably the only game that made me tear up lol.
You guys are gaining fast traction because you're honest, down to earth and look at games as they are as opposed to "what they should be" or as a comparison to other games in a similar genre. You are fair to developers too, which is sadly a little rare right now. Watching your videos is like sitting down to chill and just talk about video games with friends.
I played the heck out of this on mobile. Totally f2p, and i really enjoyed it! The devs give out enough free gems so you'll still be able to gacha some of the good characters. The story is quite good and funny. And there's a lot of retro game references
Just a heads up (SPOILERS) This game may look cheery and happy/peaceful like at first However towards the end chapters, it becomes absolutely depressing/distressing and upsetting in a beautiful way (think Attack on Titan x Nier Automata level of depression) Trust me, this game goes very deep into your feelz like no other game does and thats what makes this game truly a unique experience
@@sundaymorning4488 it happened in your house, too? I'm sorry to hear that, but honestly I'm not surprised. Just look at these comment sections on RU-vid. Scammers and thiefs are all around us.
This game is actually pretty fun I must admit. I think in the late game it becomes less fp2 friendly but im at world 4 now and its still a blast to play
Well I finish story mode as f2p in mobile without much issue (except for world 10 & 11, that was before they nerfed the enemies couple of times), but you gotta be strategic in forming your team, managing your resources and saving up your gems for meta heroes as f2p.
just gonna say it here: since the switch version (i believe) does not have the entirety of season one, and this is a review of the switch version, the story does get much, MUCH darker later on, season one very much transitions you from the silly rpg mood the game shows on the surface to the truly deep and dark story that is hidden underneath
You should definitely give this game a try, I decided to try this game on a whim and then i got hooked on it and now I've been playing the game for 2 years daily. Pretty good story, cheery at first then it gets pretty serious.
I have played this game on android a couple or years back, and is currently getting back to it! It still is very pleasant to play. But later in the game, grinding for hero fragments and other power increasing components is needed. And the writing is brilliant!!
I wonder how much the f2p model shifts when you hit the late game. Early game they often keep the f2p minimal to lure ya in! Would love to hear your thoughts if you have time to get even further in.
It's a gacha game and it's sole purpose is to milk your wallet. A lot of free stuff early on and the more you progress the more likely you are to spend Money. As much as I like Switchup don't bother with this one and don't listen to anything in this video as it's a sponsor.
I have only spent 3 dollars on one monthly purchase so almost 100% free to play and the game is incredibly free to play as long as you don't care about pvp. They have given me hundreds of rolls throughout playing so far. Gacha games are only as evil as you are dumb enough to spend tons of money on them for no reason. You can easily get over a hundred hours in this game with no money spent. As long as you don't go for stupid meta characters. tldr super free to play
Been playing this on mobile for years and it’s one of my faves. Immediately added to my Switch (didn’t know it was on there until this post) Thanks for the heads up and in-depth reviews as always
I love this game, some of the dialogue cracks me up. It's awesome. I bought some gems because it's worth paying for they have done such a good job with it and i wanted to support them. It's probably right up there with my favourite games of all time its highly amusing. I've got my daughter to play it too, she also loves it, I just think some of the language wouldn't be suitable for very young kids.
Hey man, been watching you guys for awhile now. Appreciate all yall do. Finally did a little to support....bought eshop credit from your site. Much love yall!!
You've been blowing up? I'm even surprised you don't have more subs. Your reviews are direct to the point with some humor sprinkled in. I guess you guys would click with more mature (25+) audiences though
Cheers Paul, I think review channels typically don't grow very fast as people tend to get their review and then move on. Thankfully people seem to enjoy the content. Mark
2:26 here an advice for you You dont use these to upgrade a weapon , you want to go to evolution and max the stars of 1 and 2 star weapon You want to work on book collection for stats and gems
Yessssss!! I love Guardian Tales so much! one of my favorite mobile games ever & imma definitely try it on the switch now cause thats awesome! Thanks for the vid! love all your videos and you guys are awesome! :D
Amazing game, it's one of the reasons why im a bit slow with my Persona 5 Royal game right now, played it since launch and ive been slow on it and taking my time with the story, really great and i like the gacha since its decent rates and there is mileage for it so you can either choose the hero or ex you want once you accumulate 300 mileage pts. I'm still at world 4 and hopefully i can finish at least until world 6 later on. Highly recommended!
Is this one of those "you can only play for as long as you have energy then you wait for it to refill" kind of games? Or more like play as long as you want kind of game?
You get loads of energy, by time it runs out you probably need a break ;) also you can redo levels for no energy to try and complete them fully so the more you play the more you can go back over to get the stuff you missed as you were trying to avoid dying ;)
@@sarajane5306 Honestly this alone makes guardian tales way better then most of its competitors that have limited energy/stamina based gameplay because the game won't feel like a big f u get lost as soon as you run out
As someone whose been playing this game daily on mobile for 2+ years now; it is a very good game. I'd argue the best f2p gacha game I've come across. And there's enough people singing it's praises in the comments already so I do want to give the other side of the coin. While I say it's the best it still is a gacha game and there are traps and bait they will dangle occasionally such as the sale packages, guardian and world passes. You'll be able to play through all the story and even be fairly competitive as a 100% free player but in pvp you will not beat the whales especially if you're seeing this a long time after release it's not a game where skill can reliably beat stats which are based off the number of heroes and weapons you own in your book, time gathering resources and luck in getting gear like the earth necklace. Now this switch version will not be the same as the mobile servers. It's copying the release schedule and patch data from the Japanese server with some slight variation that means banners are going to be more than 2x as fast as live mobile versions and you will miss competitive characters if you're not a spender while this wasn't as big a problem on mobile where most F2P players could reasonably get every end game competitive unit that won't happen on switch servers. Those will be my biggest criticisms and caveats besides the general complaints people have for gacha games that said the game is honestly best enjoyed slowly with the story and not as an end game competitive player where my criticisms for the switch release come from. So you should still give it a chance as the launch of a new server is the best time to get into this game. Definitely pick it up and play through the story once and every time they expand it (which will be painfully slow wait for new story) Hope you give it a chance and have fun guardians.
Started to get to eshop games and your channel was a no-brainer to subscribe after a few videos. Your videos popped up when searching and were top quality. (eu)
I remember seeing this on mobile maybe a year ago and thinking it could be great on switch. I was really disappointed when I found you need to be connected to the internet to play it. I’d rather pay a bit to have it to play offline. Too bad.
For people who are still thinking whether or not you should play it, trust me it's definitely a fun game. If you like Pixel RPGs then this one is definitely a must play, granted there is a stamina system but you wouldn't have to worry about that in the early stages since they give away so much coffee you can probably play it up to chapter 3 for a whole day. Tons of different gameplay ranging from PVP, to Co-op, Tower Defense, Raids, Colosseum, Farming and a lot more to keep you interested. Story is also nice, first few chapters are definitely "bland" it gets real interesting as the story progresses. The more you play the better the Cutscenes and gameplay get. The gacha system while annoying does have a pity system, and even if it's luck based trust me getting white boxes are easy, played for 2 years and got tons of SSR lol.
This looks OK I guess but a major drawback for me is the animation style they use, where separate parts of the character move and zoom to create the illusion of animation instead of having unique sprites. Several games have used this technique and I guess people don’t mind, but it really annoys me - I actually call this “nonimation”
I love pixelart and sprite animation, but honestly I don't mind. It allow greater range of movement and fluidity without sacrificing fidelity. The sprite is quite small and can be unclear to convey movement with so much detail needed to be put on based on the actual illustration. They also animate nicely and not stiff as you may imagine. There's still sprite based movement here and there, mostly on bigger object with constant movement, but they mostly use 3D model for a full object, such as the big mech in the video. Also, from technical standpoint, I can't imagine making thousand of sprites accommodating all the trash to epic weapon on the game. Settling for just a generic type of weapon sprite won't do when the looks of the weapon is part of the value of having to them. More to it, I can't imagine they do the cute and silly signature dance on this game other than animating it "pseudo sprite animation" style.
I was about to comment on your last video (Lysfanga review) something about this games hahaha, I just love it, played in 2021(android) but stopped and starting again I see more things like cutscenes in parts they did't back in the day, I even remember the pain in world 10 still pretty challgening but no way near as hard as it was the first time, I now play more relax since there is so much to do I think that was that had me burned out
I'm always willing to try f2p, but I hate when it's heavily monetized, i prefer the kinds with the "buy the storyline expansions" to continue beyond the free campaign... I might have to look at this
The only p2w aspect of this game is pvp, and that only matters if you are trying to reach top 100 of arena and stuff like that, but the rewards you can get in diamond/master vs top 100 is barely noticeable until you can get into top 10, but that's only a few hundred more of gems.
If I can only send a screenshot of my account rn. I have logged in for 450+ days on the mobile version. It's a game which I have and still considered a side game, still not bored of it I have not spent a single penny on it. It's very lenient for a gacha game but punishes you if you don't comply with the mechanics properly. The main attraction, the story, is purely f2p. You only need to grind a bit to scale along with it with a cohesive team (by cohesive I mean the party buffs work together according to the team and the chain skills work for at least 3 characters in the team. PvE is tame, advance on it if you want to appease fellow guild members or to assist randoms in Co-op mode. The PvP aspect however needs a lot more patience or a bit of cash because of collection bonuses and easier access to upgrade materials. If you plan on having a high rank as f2p you might need more than just patience. Just don't take PvP that seriously and not mald that much. Overall still a good game to experience, although I am not expecting a lot of new players to stay.
I’m thirty hours into this already and enjoying the events and town building. Not spent a savaloy on it but had great fun so far. Love the pixel Art too 🫶
I vouch for this game! The story is real good (LIKE REALLY GOOD) and the gacha farming is nice too! Also, the art style is amazing and unique! 2d and 3d art style is both in the screen at the same time! Seriously if you have a Switch, GO CHECK THIS OUT!
I downloaded this game not too long ago. It's surprisingly interesting, funny and entertaining. Then I saw it on my iPhone and was very surprised, because on the iPhone the graphics are much different. Especially the drawing of the characters on the cards. Who can explain why the difference?
There are two types of art styles, one being the original and the other from Japan. The mobile version has the default setting for the original style while the Switch version has the default setting for the Japan art style. (The game also came out on Japan a year ago so that's why there is art for that.) The style can be changed by clicking a button on the hero screen somewhere middle top.
Pretty sure based on the artstyle, this game was done by a team that did a mobile game, it was quality, that game had the same feel that you just didn't need to pay anything to enjoy the game.
Actually having fun with it though I don’t ever support f2p type games by making any purchases. It gives you tons of free stuff right up front and I figure by the time it feels too grindy, then I’ll find something else to play. For now it’s fun though.
I don't think the ads portray how stupid in a good way the games humor is but like the stupid side storys referencing chainsaw man like a day after it came out. I only wish you could move the mobile game data to the switch seen as while I haven't sunk money in I have sunk a whole lot of time.
this game is actually really fun! the story is definitely enjoyable... and the game is quite generous. i just got this game a few weeks ago on mobile. definitely a should try! its free nothing to lose
Oh shit this is on switch, I’m surprised. Put a nice chunk of time into this on mobile. Never paid for anything because I never felt the need to. Fun game overall
Out of all the games i have played this is the one where I cried the most, I came here for fun, and I got feels :( and also a lot of fun whether committing genocide or flirting with a nobles daughter
I made this game way too easy by getting 3 or 4 ssr characters for free.. One of them clears screens with one attack lol... It probably helps that I got the ssr weapon that goes with her too... I also love all the references in this game so far (only on the second chapter)
Early game is made easy, but you want to have a little bit of challenge, you can just not level up your heroes. Once you reach somewhere around world 5 it gets a little bit harder, you can no longer just go smash the enemy without dodging. With that said, the game gets better at later worlds that will be released in a future. Also, the sidequests in ths game are really well made, imo, they are very fun. There's a quest in world 7 and it's really sad...Just wait till you reach there.
@@justarandomlol Gacha games aren't usually my type of game, I only really like a few of them.. (Tower of fantasy being one of my newer favorites).. but it's still a good game
@@SwitchUpYt I did get the flower girl, and the weapon when both banners were up. Which she is on my team with your trusted Doggie you get from the story.
I like this game, but they are always doing maintenance. it happens a lot when I get off work and I can't play due to maintenance. On Halloween night they were doing this too. wish they did this some other time
