Ok so it seems like a lot of people are missing the point of this comparison, which is probably my fault for not making it clearer. The point is not to say that "Terraria is better than Minecraft, you shouldn't enjoy or play Minecraft because Terraria is more fun". I'm saying that Terraria is the perfect player experience, it does everything that people want a game to do, while Minecraft misses those things pretty hard. Terraria is cheap, there's basically no monetization, it's on a convenient launcher (steam), there's a small team of loving developers who respond to the community, the game has continued to get free updates for over a decade, and modding was made as convenient and accessable as possible for free. Like I said, Minecraft is not impossible to download and play (and mod), but it has enough annoying barriers that will keep far more people from fully enjoying the game. Whereas Terraria has basically none of those barriers. And to take things a step further, Terraria's development team is practically nonexistent compared to the massive team producing Minecraft, which ultimately is all backed by Microsoft. It's Bill Gates Vs. Redigit and somehow Redigit is able to absolutley demolish Minecraft in it's accessibility and ease of use. As for why I chose to contrast Terraria's perfection to Minecraft's flaws, I mean c'mon I think the best selling video game of all time backed by the ultra giga-corporation Microsoft can handle some criticisms. P.S. Making Minecraft models is easier than making Terraria sprites, fight me
I tried making sprites for my terraria mod and it was actual hell Terraria sprites on paper look really basic but make it look super good like how re logic make it is super hard not to mention sprite for block and armor
I disagree, neither are perfect player experiences really, not exactly it has flaws too, not really it does what it is supposed to do. True, those annoying barriers do suck but Minecraft's price is fair. You act like Microsoft it self handles all of Minecraft which isn't really true. It really isn`t Bill Gates vs Redigit. Except A. Teraria itself can be criticized for it's actual in game flaws too B. it is also one of the best selling video games of all time and C. Microsoft does not handle all of Minecraft themselves. You got proof of that final claim? Because I doubt it is true.
in a nutshell Minecraft and Terraria are both good games but they have their own flaws they are perfect in their own way and every update that Minecraft and Terraria gives will have it’s ups and downs, also ignore the name I don’t really care about RU-vid besides watching and learning enjoying myself and not stressing about making video’s besides posting art and such rarely on other social media platforms.
i had a world years ago and on my first seed within the first 10 minutes i found an enchanted sword! i was new so i didn’t think much of it and i quit the game for ages. I start the game again thinking of all the memories i created and i went to a new world and started another terraria adventure and im glad it has still got popularity thank you and thank terraria
while Terraria is only 9.99$ I still managed to spend 50$ on it, not because I bought it from a wrong site or anything. No the reason I spend so much on it is because, I can't stop gifting it to my friends! Like no one deserves to miss out on this masterpiece of a game!

That’s a big difference between big corporations and a small team of devs. Not to say Terraria has a small team of indie game devs, but it certainly feels like they still have that mindset
The developers of Terraria are legends. They interact with the community often, make cool events and even add fan suggestions into the game, while Minecraft devs barely take a single peep from the community into account.
That's completely natural for a small indie dev team. For how corporate and conservative mojang have to be because of microsoft and delicacy of the game's systems, they still do a commendable amount of fun things

As a game designer and programmer, I absolutely agree that making minecraft is a lot easier than making terraria. What I liked about minecraft was how wacky but cohesive it was. As a kid I found the world and mobs super interesting because they were sort of all over the place and unique and funny looking. Nowadays minecraft only adds animals. Terraria is like old minecraft, it's got sniper riffles and magic staffs and wings, things players really want, while still feeling like it's one really thought out game.
Made me think of the statement: "We won't add any hostile mobs that are real animals" They prioritize animal protection and becoming Peta over actual fun.

I think that Minecraft really lost its original soul. The newer updates feel super empty and bland. It’s either nostalgia or the ruining of the game. For me, it’s probably a mix of the both.
yeah the updates are so mid, it doesn’t give me motivation to get back on my hours gone world especially since if your world was pre update, you have to travel far to find the new content generate
Red actually responds to and treats terraria’s players as friends, and MANY terraria items and changes are because of that. Overall, I think there is some skepticism about this "rivalry" and it is kind of mind-blowing how these communities forget that these games are totally different experiences, this two are literally besties and search a totally different game loop, terraria is mare about the excitement of all the things that you can do that will always keep you doing something and minecraft its more about doing your own thing and find your own way to enjoy the game while just living the moment, I kinda get it terraria always has been kind of an underdog while minecraft has been EXPLOITED by content creators and I think these communities should just enjoy this games as best as they can
It’s two different players who prefer either game. For those who want to play on their own terms, are creative, are technical and doesn’t need strict game progression, Minecraft is a lot better. The kind of players that prefers Terraria are those who need strict game progression, doesn’t have too many things to do at the same time and really likes PvE.
While u are right, i find terraria way more fun, playing both since they released on the 360. The only thing i find fun at all in minecraft nowadays is what other people who actually care make. Minigame servers, modpacks, etc. Without them i doubt a lot of people would still enjoy minecraft. Ive had some of my best memories on the game as a kid, but now it doesnt feel the same. Ever since microsoft bought minecraft its only gotten worse imo. Terraria has an amazing base game with so much to do with hundreds to even thousands of fun and viable mods that are right there on the steam page instead of risking ur accounts or even worse because of some RAT or virus on a sketchy site.
that's certainly fair, although i'd definitely agree with the main point of the vid, even if i personally prefer terraria way more, i can't help but also be massively disappointed by how SQUANDERED Minecraft is in terms of it's updates, and the general handling of the Minecraft IP. Where as it is utterly insane how good and consistent the terraria updates are. I really wish i can enjoy minecraft more than I do right now, the two games certainly aren't trying to compete. but damn. I feel like even if I prefered Minecraft I'd call Terraria the superiorly made and maintained game.
As a lifetime veteran for both games, the novelty wears off after a while. First minecraft satisfies simplistic needs, then terraria offers a lot more seemingly unique experiences, but then becomes very limited where you start appreciating minecraft more, in part specifically FOR the emptiness and what it allows
@@orihiho2978 First i don't owe anyone an explanation, plus when the hell did i say terraria was empty, it's MINECRAFT's emptiness and freedom that lets you do stuff outside main game that you just can't in terraria

What makes Terraria super good is its replayability. Not only do I unlock new content within the game for playing it and defeating bosses. but I can play the game multiple times over and have a different experience each time. Including the fact multiplayer is that easy to access, and mods are such high quality compared to Minecraft. Just showed how loved of a game it is by its community and developers. Truly a game I will miss, and one that brings a greater sense of satisfaction compared to the many times I've attempted to get back into Minecraft.

1.4.4 is still not the final update, 1.4.5 is coming out soon, which will include a crossover with dead cells, supposedly 1.4.5 will be the final update, but they've been calling updates the final update for like 7 years so who knows
Minecraft is a lego set that tells you to explore your limits whereas Terraria gives you a living world with limitless ways to reach its limit. If that makes any sense to anyone else
@@ultrazombieYT This is an incredible example, and a good explanaton for how people with different tastes respond to games differently. I would have much more fun and satisfaction finishing an hour+ lego set than I would having a bucket of assorted pieces I would have no idea what to do with/make something ugly with. Terraria's fun comes from progression, Minecraft's comes from imagination.
I regretted not speaking up when the devs made 1.4.4 since the devs were taking in a bunch of community feedback. But despite 1.4.5 not being meant as a community update, they've gone back to adding tons of community ideas anyway, so I have a 2nd chance to get my ideas into the game. The fact that the Terraria devs "unintentionally" listen to the community significantly more than the Minecraft devs really speaks volumes about them and their games.
This is the video I believe many Terraria players wanted to make but never did because they are afraid they will get flamed in the comment. I agree with every single point in this video and wouldn't ask for any more, thank you so much for making this.

Except terraria is at the end already. The final major update is out and none will come after. Just remember how it started to really fall out of cultural relevancy years after 1.3. With no 1.5 to save 1.4, the game is bound to become more niche and somewhat irrelevant to the masses
One of the devs at Mojang was basically responding to all of this with “Minecraft is a game about expression and that’s what these updates are about” People wish Minecraft had more ambition, more bosses, more dimensions, more progression and things to do that aren’t limited by their own creativity, but Mojang wants to move in the exact opposite direction it seems
Minecraft **kinda** cares about the communities voice, Terraria delayed 1.4.4 repeatedly to add more community ideas, they genuinely care while Minecraft pretends to care
@@doginpillows20 I usually see this argument as "Minecraft doesn't have content, because the point is to not have content." Thanks, that will completely change the way I play Minecraft now. Anything more and it would've "bloated the game", lol Sometimes it feels like Minecraft is on life support, and these sparse updates are just enough to give the impression that it's still "being developed" Personally, I don't think that improving the game with more variety is "bloating" it. I mean, look at Terraria itself, the way that the game grew and expanded over the years, and the way that it reflects on the game progression itself: how you play the game and approach obstacles completely changes as you progress. Even building improves with the tools you acquire. In Minecraft, you pretty much only get better quality gear, with a few exceptions. In Terraria, everywhere you look, there is a new thing: a new NPC, a new block, a new biome, a new enemy, a new weapon type, a new trinket, a new event, a new mount... It's like a Kaleidoscope of content. And whenever you think you've reached the "end" of what it had to give, it comes around with more stuff. And almost none of those hours were wasted on main title, but playing and enjoying it. Defeating the wall of flesh, getting the rod of discord, listening to wacky jungle rock while beating a freaking plant, then defeating a moon god is unmatched and every time feels like the first. It's truly an amazing game that makes you feel, you'll get angry when a Wyvern spawns out of nowhere just because you got a block too high while fighting a boss, or you'll feel like you've just finished a shift at work when farming for said rod of discord and immense joy when you finally get to clap Moon Lord cheeks and idiot drops an item you've wanted on the first attempt. And the fact that the game is going to be updated and every update gets called "THE LAST" will always get to you and make you laugh, saying to yourself - "The madlads at it again! They're again lying about the last update of this beautiful game!"

@@Delta_Edits.2000 h player here. Have you tried doing other classes? I used to play mage a lot, played it on release of every major update (5+ times) and got bored a bit. But a few years ago, I tried ranger and Calamity rogue after that, and it was awesome. It was a feeling I had when playing mage for the first time. Just a completely new perspective on the game. How I built my arenas, how I use my armor, which stats are important etc. Fast forward to today I played every class at least 3 times, at least 1 on each difficulty (because of how those were added one after another). And after master mode on every class and Calamity death mode on rogue and summoner, I can now say that every class is equally fun just in a different ways. I still play vanilla game sometimes tho. Just building and relaxing. And if you get bored grinding, install something like luiafk. It may seem cheaty, but I only use it for things and potions I already farmed for a lot before. Generally, using QoL mods speeds up the pacing and allows skipping tedious parts. Pumping up difficulty with mods also helps, since it essentially forces you to either hope for luck and spend tens of tries on bosses or look for stuff to make fights easier and learn something new. I still remember times I defeated bosses on the first try by sheer luck, and times I died even though I thought I was prepared and expected an easy fight. I hope this helps. And remember to take the brakes sometimes. Despite how I love this game I'm rarely able to play more than 2 playthroughs in a row even with different mods.
I just picked it uo for the first time after seeing it arounf for like 10 years. Been playing mknecraft with my girl for about 6 years. Every couple months we start a world and have fun but now we jave beat the ender dragon, wither, and even the warden a couple times, we have several maxed out worlds, with litteraly nothing new, and anything they do add is like "heres copper you cant make any gear, and it doesnt interact with anything else but it rusts over time". And any loot you get is like heres a diamond sword, it behaves EXACTLY like the wooden sword but its just better stats. In Terraria in the first 4 hours i found a staff that summons a bird on my head that fights for me, a magic wand that shoots fire, made a sword out of cactus (that has different mechanics than the starting sword), a mace, tons of potions that teleport, fly, affect gravity, a fish that summons a shark to by my buddy, and fished another shark that acts like a chainsaw, boots thay let ke slide down walls, a necklace that acts as a light source, mines probably 5 different ores, and fought probs around 20 different enemies, found all sorts of other stuff underground (including a giant nest of antlions) and i just killed the eyeball boss. And from what i saw i jave barely scratched the surface of content. Like its INSANE how you fond COOL stuff ALL THE TIME, every chest im like WHOAAA A FLUTE THAT SUMMONS SNAKES I CAN CLIMB, instead of word 2 diamonds and 9 bread and a saddle.
I personally believe that both games are better at different things, like how Terraria is a better survival journey game, while Minecraft is better at being a sandbox. Although I spend more time on Minecraft these days, I often see myself doing more time in Creative Mode, toying with command and structure blocks.
I never wanted to rank either of the games because even though both games have a similar genre, they feel very different to me. The big difference is that Terraria isn't scared to change things. Minecraft is scared to make the game too different. You could be told that Terraria released yesterday and the game does feel like that, while if you said that for Minecraft, there's too much old and outdated content in Minecraft. Terraria Overworld was about to be an official game, but the amount of content and mechanics that has and not so many peoples got interested on it, they had to close this game for good. As someone who played and loved both Terraria and Minecraft, I always considered them incomparable. Terraria is more of an action game, while Minecraft is a more chill game. I never play Terraria expecting a 2d Minecraft, and I never play Minecraft expecting a 3d Terraria, which is why Terraria mods for minecraft never really caught my attention.
For me Terraria is the pixel sandbox boss based RPG I wanted Minecraft to be. Over all the years ive generally lost interest in Minecraft due to the lack of new genuine progression and bosses. Instead they seem to be focused on blocks and just adding more irl animals as mobs while modders can do that and then some in 1/20th of the time Mojang can. As great as the nether/cave updates were ive lost passion for the direction Minecraft is going even as a childhood fan and instead picked up Terraria and its everything I wanted Minecraft to evolve into. Terraria makes you feel like a God by the end and MC on the other hand has 3 main bosses two of which (the wither and the elder guardians) have TERRIBLE rewards with extremely niche uses to the point where they are pretty much only worth doing for the sake of it for most players.
I think the difference is that Terraria is a thoroughly fleshed out game made out of passion and love by a small team of dedicated developers, while Minecraft has become a monetised mess with shallow updates that add features that lead nowhere and don't tie in with anything else in the game, such as copper. One focused on making their game the best it can be, while the other lives off the brand name to sell boring spinoffs to kids.
@@thegrayghoul4638I think it would be perfectly okay for Minecraft to have no bosses if they had a direction for their game. Most of the updates are extremely shallow, lack attention to detail and lead nowhere. The bosses are boring because they just exist for the sake of having a boss in the game. The End itself was always an artificial, extrinsic goal in a game where the real fun comes from making up your own goals.
Yeah the appeal of Minecraft for me is building cool shit. The lack of an entire dimension in Terraria means that building stuff just isn't as satisfying. Also, Terraria is fundamentally more of a combat focused RPG with a long series of clear goals that you are railroaded into doing, which is something that I don't care for.
This is the first video of yours I've found and I like your style! Well paced, funnily written, and reminiscent of mid 2010s gaming review content which is super comforting and nostalgic (tho your vids still feel like their own thing). Subsribed.
My favorite part about the Terraria devs is how open they are to new ideas, constantly thinking of/taking community suggestions for cool unique things to add to the game. Minecraft devs seem to avoid interesting or useful features at all costs. And more importantly, they avoid simple quality of life changes that would take literally no time to implement.
Right? like instead of implementing changes that the players would like, they instead suggest their own useless changes in the form of mobs or items and have the players vote on something completely new that they never even asked for. Players aren't excited by something new, they're excited by the freedom of choice that Minecraft has never given them.
I've played both games for a decent amount of time each, both multiplayer and single player, and I can confidently say that Terraria has been able to keep my attention much longer than Minecraft has. And another thing I like about Terraria that you could've mentioned is the fact that the devs want to have fun making the game just as much as the players want to have fun playing it, they add random joke items just because they thought it would be funny like a whoopee cushion that drops from a worm for some reason or gravity defying cactus balls to annoy players because why not. Compared to Minecraft which feels like it has had joy slowly drained out of it with every update feeling somewhat underwhelming and lacking on some features that they promised before, Terraria's updates just drop whatever the heck the devs find useful, funny, challenging, and/or playful, and let the players have fun with them however they wish
After the many many controversies (like their reason not to add sharks or the recent anti-gun thing) I feel like mojang despises terraria. Also they're probably politically biased against adding certain stuff to the game (like sharks (again) or fireflies). Not to mention the 1.17, 18, 19 & 20 updates, utter trash (excluding the warden).
I basically know every nook and cranny about terraria yet I always find more and more content to look into and I also find more ways to put a smile on my face, Minecraft though, I basically found out everything the minute I heard of it, and it didn’t take that long, meaning that there isn’t much content to explore or new content being added. sure, I still loooove the game, but terraria takes everything, terraria’s only problem is figuring out when they will forget the game and stop updating it so my cheeks stop hurting from smiling. TERRARIA FOR LIFE
I will say, I keep playing Terraria for two reasons: The devs add quality content and actually listen to the community. The constant hype for new updates and weapons and content the devs pump out keeps me playing. Hours and hours have been dumped into one world that I have where I turn the entire thing into a super base for myself, so I can test and collect every item possible. Red (the creator of Terraria), interacts with the community often and is constantly asking for ways to improve the game! The countless ways to play. With the 4 main classes (and countless sub-classes), the game always has a new way for you to run through and beat it! I find myself creating a new world occasionally and screwing around with a brand new character, trying out a play style I never would’ve thought of before! Minecraft is a good game, but Terraria has had more time, love, and effort put into it. I can without a doubt say that I prefer Terraria over Minecraft.
Minecraft's progression sucks. To get from 0 to diamond gear, you don't need to go on an adventure, looking for interesting structures and fighting various bosses. No, you need to find a village, breed and zombify the villagers, then get the diamond trades from an armorsmith and break and place the lectern repeatedly to get a librarian that sells Mending. After that, build an xp farm to enchant your gear and dig straight for an hour in the nether to get netherite, and voila, you have reached the top. No interesting encounters or challenges. No utilization of a variety of mechanics. Nothing.
@@alvaro1379He’s making a point, you just refuse to listen. Terraria has a generally better « journey to the top » system, with how many weapons, ores, and materials are locked behind specific events and bosses, whilst minecraft has a very simple process which can be, for some people, boring
To be fair they did change the way to get Netherite gear and you now need to find and raid a Bastion at least once for a Netherite upgrade template. For what it's worth.
If I wanted to play a game for progression, I wouldn’t play Minecraft, I’d play a generic RPG. Minecraft is amazing for me because it was a complete subversion of the mechanics of traditional adventure/RPG games, and is great because of the abstract little moments that is had in its simple construction.
It’s hurts to hear this but its true, i played both games when i was young and love them for different reasons. I found myself at different times playing one more then the other. However, Minecraft feels more nostalgic to me while terraria still has me in, They are both great games but Minecraft lost something
It lost its sense of being a videogame, some of the last few updates they added foxes, bees, dolphins, goats, pandas, camels, axolotl and such; I was far more interested in Warden, and the new Nether mobs cause back then - they had creepers, enderman, witch, skeleton horse... and now they focus on endangered species and try to make their game realistic... it doesn't feel like game-world anymore
I kinda like Minecraft, ngl. But vanilla survival does get boring after a while if you're not into building. Just started playing Terraria couple of months ago and I have to say, it has so much more to do. It never ever gets boring. Also I hate Mojang. It's like they're intentionally trying to piss off it's fanbase. Doing stupid mob votes that only causes controversies and giving people what they want only to remove/nerf it (I am talking about the fireflies and copper bulb). Just fucking why?
i think one of the best experiences i had in minecraft (and that’s why i like it more than terraria) is creating your own modpack. and changing the game code to suit your play style exactly, if you want « your » game to be a 3d rpg you are forced to do it in minecraft. that’s what i love in minecraft, creating things. even though it’s way less accessible than in terraria it has the potential to be better. but as a game without changing the code or anything, terraria is clearly better.
I remember when minecraft used to be even harder to get. When I first bought it I was like 11 years old and didnt know what I was doing. That was back when you had to install java first, I believe. So the first year, or two, I just couldnt play it. I just kinda had it, but couldnt play
You should 100% make a sequel video to this, i'd love comparing core gameplay mechanics like bosses. i can just imagine the difference fighting a side by side of calamity's exo mechs versus the lich king from the twilight forest mod lol. anyways, great video.
Both are games of my childhood, but Terraria has stuck with me. I haven’t really played MC, or had the desire to play in years. Terraria has always had my heart as my favorite game ever.
Same here. Now and then I'll install MC and play it a little, but I always get bored and stop playing pretty soon. Terraria, on the other hand, I could play through a million times and never get bored.
terraria is just easier to play. It has something to do except sandbox stuff, so it's always easy to return to it. So even if u dont feel like building a 401203012301200312 square meters building u can at least hop on to defeat some bosses or farm for some random stuff
I agree. You get addicted to Minecraft and play for two weeks without touching grass and then you just leave it in the dust. Terraria has its ways of keeping the game interesting no matter how long you play.
@@benismann It's not easier but it's simpler than Minecraft. Terraria is a world where you can have the much freedom you want, if you're stuck on something there is another path to walk(classes, bosses, etc), while in Minecraft because of the lack of content you really only have to go one path because you're forced to( overworked - nether - end )
I did some thinking on this. Sometimes I like to take a little time to process things before reacting. So I agree largely with many of your points. And I've played both games since either their inception, or shortly after they left alpha/beta phases. I have close to 10,000 hours in Terraria, and over 10,000 hours in Minecraft. I would say I agree in the manner that I love the way Terraria handles development. I love the variation of magical items/mobs/ bosses/ NPC's, and even story more. On the other hand. There's always something that somehow seems to draw me back to Minecraft, and I do go through phases where I'll enjoy one over the other more for different reasons. At the end of the day though. I must say there's one thing I cannot deny above all else. When I beat a Terraria world, that's it. I never return to it ever again. I will take my time building things during the gameplay, and even learned a lot about building in the game. (Mostly from Khaios I admit.) but as soon as I'm done with the moonlord. I'll take my new toys and wreak havoc on the world for a time, then I just stop playing for awhile. Minecraft on the other hand. I feel like once I kill that ender dragon. The world is finally opening up to me. I finally have access to some decent gear and enchantments. Now I can go farm Elytra to fly around. (Which I have all kinds of ways to fly and flying mounts by now in Terraria. I do wish they would add flying mounts to Minecraft as well. Super epic.) Anyway. Now I can also get Shulker boxes so I can farm items enmasse so that I may take on large projects, and I'm free to move around and build. Terraria is a lot more combat based. So I often find myself taking the summoner route so I don't have to deal with annoying enemies while I'm trying to do things in the game like building in harsh environments. There's something about the simplicity of minecraft that allows me to chill in ways that I have never been able to do in Terraria. I see a lot of videos hating on Minecraft these days. Even with addition of blocks. But as a young lad, I enjoyed playing with Legos. Never one time had I thought, oh man... I have too many legos. There's too many variants here. I only found myself searching for new and creative ways to use them to make my builds even more dynamic and extravagant. I find myself in the same situation in minecraft. Sometimes I'll go back through an entire world after an update, and update every build I've ever done, but I'll take pictures first so that I still retain the memory of how I've improved over the years. At the end of the day, it depends on what you want to do and how you feel at the time. One is 2d, one is 3d. One is based on the other. Both are sandbox. So while we may disagree with certain things on either game, at the end of the day. the biggest issues only come from ourselves. They are after all... Sandbox games. Sorry wall of text. May as well have created a video response, but meh.
@chrisbealonis4655 I argued with myself on it a long time and decided I couldn't be anything but neutral. 🤣😂 I honestly would love it if they came together somehow and created a new game bringing the strengths from both. That would be insane.
@@decenthumanbeing67 tbf iv been playin since 1.1 or somethin, I don't remember, but iv spent ALEAST 5 years on it, like Minecraft, you never quit, you just take a really long break
Small correction; the base price for Terraria at launch was $15, lowered to $10 sometime after 2016. It goes on sale all the time, even back in 2011 you had several chances to buy it for as little as $5. Minecraft's 1.0 launched at $26.95 (prior to this you could buy beta access for less and carry access to the "final product"), raised to $30 sometime after 2016. It almost never goes on sale; in fact I don't think I've ever seen it below $20 at best, and that was before the microsoft acquisition. The value comparison has only gotten better over time.
@@toffykoala32 when I got it on mobile in like 2013 it was $5, idk abt pc old price cuz I just bought pc Minecraft for the first time a few days ago lol
i was very bored on my summer holidays and then my friend came and bougth me terraria. i did 1 playthrogh with him and it was SO GOOD, it was probably the most fun ive ever had in a videogame, since then i literally know everything about this game
the minecraft devs also push way too many restrictions onto their creativity. Like they’ve explicitly stated that they’ll never add sharks or furniture and don’t really have too many great reasons to back up their choices. There’s also the annual updates and the update themes that constantly get in the way of interesting and built up features. It’s hard to distinguish a lack of care from the developers or if the lacklustre updates are all due to their creativity essentially being capped.
they'll never add sharks because they are being hunted to extinction and adding them to minecraft would teach kids that killing sharks gives you a reward. They'll never add furniture because it would limit creativity. having to design your own things like furniture is one of the things that makes minecraft appealing to so many people.
@@Ethan_Cubed the shark one is stupid. Who says you have to hunt them for them to be in the game? Sharks may be hunted frequently but they’re also a key part of reef ecosystems, so teaching kids that instead of “kill shark because shark bad” as so many other forms of media do would do more good than bad, and raise awareness for it similar to how they did with pandas and axolotls. The furniture one isn’t as bad but it’s still not fantastic, even despite the many workarounds, some people may find that what they had in mind is simply impossible or at least overly difficult to pull off and discourage them from trying similar things. It doesn’t have to explicitly be furniture but maybe just more ways to tweak tables and chairs without having too much hassle. The simple ability to right click on stairs and sit down would be even less work to implement but still give players a challenge to add a little extra creativity. Ironically, despite encouraging creativity for players by putting roadblocks for them here and there, when mojang encounters any similar blockages they just give up.
@@Ethan_Cubed terraria has sharks, and encourages killing them for a high-tier ranged weapon, i dont think there was a spike in shark-hunting because of it
@@dragonslayer7724 best selling videogame probably haves to do, and minecraft is surely more popular with kids than terraria, personally i havent played terraria tho and it doesnt seem bad but the shark thing does make sense
You can see how much the developers love to make Terraria and add cool things, the creator is even adding a dinossaur mount because his son said that it would be cool. Then there is minecraft, they just do dumb updates because they fear that if they do something different people may get angry
It seems stupid until you realize that people will get angry at new features considering the fact that there is now a good portion of people playing the alpha versions
That's not even touching the most recent news in the Minecraft world, such as banning guns, actually banning firearms, and some other absurd bs. So now they are also destroying the creative part of minecraft
Something I've said before is that Terraria is a game made *BY* gamers *FOR* gamers. Whereas Minecraft is not. The Terraria team has a better understanding of what their community wants because they can relate to them more. And they actually engage with their community in conversations, adding things they suggest. Whereas Minecraft gives a sort of illusion of engagement with the mob vote, and well, we know how much of a mess that is. I truly believe it the community was actually listened to the mob vote would've been bagged years ago
Yeah it's just sad because Minecraft lack the point where's the player have main objective such as bosses and progression feeling after triger and finished something it's make it feels so plain and the developer kinda forcing the player to push their creativity instead of helping player by giving more block
I lost my creativity with Minecraft years ago, before, me and my cousins would build very big, great, and sometimes questionable stuff on our superflat world, survival was more of a side quest, for us, creative was where it's at, so many ideas, so much free time on our hands, we would just go way off, building mansions, roller coasters, houses, machines, sus pixel art, you name it, sky really was the limit. And then survival became more and more popular, we got influenced, and with that, we just lost our love and passion for building. Minecraft used to be a game that encouraged creativity, but now, it's just all gone, beating the game continuously can only keep you entertained for so long, the fun came from the buildings and magnificent art we would all create, now, this trend of "beating the game" has completely made that fun obsolete.
@@toastyboi8737well for me that’s the spark of a game, the ongoing playability! there’s mobs you can fight for a reason, and building only gets you so far (for me) it’s kinda more fun for me to get op armor, tons of villagers to sell you op stuff, building especially in survival is a hassle im not willing to do to get the materials, and i like the combat more, but i don’t like creative to just build either and i understand other people enjoy that more so it’s cool you find enjoyment in it still! i don’t sadly , i guess that’s why my preference is terraria
Well they are both games about mining and exploring. How many games do you know that are about those two things specifically that aren't just Minecraft clones? 😂
@@tomastregr2899 I know. Terraria is just too original to compare really and Minecraft was a trend setting game. Both are great but I think Minecraft fell off a few years ago in my opinion.
Old Minecraft was fun but whenever I end up playing it now I dont get very far before I get bored of it while in terraria, there’s fun every corner with cool weapons, soundtracks, and bosses.
I remember Andrew spinks saying he wanted more of a purpose out of Minecraft and was mostly a big part of what drove him to make Terraria, This desire for a sense of purpose in Minecraft is what led the development of Terraria. I think this is where modpacks really shine for Minecraft if you want a sandbox game that also can give you objectives. Been playing/watching Hat Films play the Vault Hunters modpack and it's a blast to play. There's plenty of modpacks to choose from as well that can give you all sorts of fun goals. I remember playing one called Project Ozone I think? You basically are tasked with bringing life back to the world through the use of various mods. I stopped playing it eventually because my PC at the time was chugging when I tried to play the pack. Whoops...
I just want to rant about updates for a bit. Terraria 1.4.5 is in development right now. At first, it was going to be a small update that released some new items from its Dead Cells crossover. But as time went on, people kept asking for more stuff. And since the update was already taking time, Red obliged. We have already seen hundreds of new changes, from new items to QoL updates. And a huge chunk of them from the community. Every time we get an update for this game, its full of community ideas and new things. 1.4 exists because it became such a huge update that Red basically said "Fuck it, its 1.4. Throw every idea you have at me." Minecraft, on the other hand, has its once a year mob vote where a RU-vidr decides they like a mob and their community causes it to get added to the game.
Fun fact: terraria was supposed to have a sequel called "terraria otherworlds" and the concepts looked amazing but then they dropped it since they couldnt really figure out how to make it stand out, and the base game was still cherished by the community so they just said "okay we will keep the normal game updated". all that remains of the sequel is the soundtrack (that you can also buy on steam for 5 bucks)
