In this final episode, the Guards on ceremonial duty are in London practising for Trooping the Colour alongside their regimental rivals, the Coldstream Guards.
In loving memory of those who risked their lives for us. Guardsman, Simon Davison Guardsman, Daniel Probyn Guardsman, Tony Downes Guardsman, Daryl Hickey Guardsman, David Atherton Will always be with the Grenadiers. Once a Grenadier always a Grenadier
So sad for Tony being filmed six weeks before he died in Afghanistan , and his parents reading his final letter, heartbreaking for any parent to read .
I went through my Training in the 90s. My Mate who I went through Training with died in Northern Ireland. Furthermore, when I was trraining New Recruits at I.T.B. Strensil and then I.T.B. Catterick, I lost a few lads that I trained. I still feel guilty that I didn't Train them good enough!? I know I did this to the best of my abilitiy. Although, I can only, therefore conclude, that it's the luck of the Cards so to speak. Salute to All my Brothers and Sisters. THEY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! PATRICK through the Ranks: 2503...R.S.M. Infantry, late entry Major, Reserve Royal Signals Rtd.
These episodes were great!! I thought they (queen's guards) were just ceremonial guards and their job was nothing to do other than guarding the queen( though i had much respect for them)....but after knowing what each soldier goes through......I'm Speechless!! Massive respect for all soldiers out there serving their country. REST IN PEACE Tony Downes, Simon Davison and all soilders who sacrificed thier lives for thier country. Again much much respect for these soldiers!
It’s completely normal for ceremonial soldiers in all armies to be combat trained as well. That’s just how it works. Otherwise they’d just be line dancers 👯👯👯👯and dead weight. Similarly, bandsmen can be also infantrymen or medics.
As it should my friend, your dad risked his life for each and every one of us in the free world. If he is still with us then make sure to tell him how proud of him you are. 🙏🇬🇧❤
As a Yank, I just want to express my utmost and sincere gratitude and honor of being able to serve with my British brothers in both Iraq and Afganastan. We shared some good laughs, and some hard tears, but we will always remain friends, even if we don't remember each other's names or faces. I love you lads, may God bring you everlasting happiness and joy. CM2 NMCB-7 Naval Expeditionary Combat hoorah fighting Seabees.
@@CrusaderGamer he was driving an armoured vehicle when he drove into an ied and blew up the vehicle but after doing his tour of duty he became a police officer in derby
From my perspective as an American, these series of videos show what true sacrifice is. I have nothing but respect for The Grenadier Guards and what they do. At heart, regardless of what country you are from, we are all in this world together, we all have emotions, families, and we all feel hardship as well as loss. God rest the Guardsman.
When the letter was read out I cracked - whips tears from face and sniffs- It's impossible not to cry when they start reading out the letter that Tony sent to his parents.
@@jacksonthesyndicalist2771 I am an American, and I am also grateful. When we were attacked on 9/11, men like this came forward and helped. True friends that come help and fight when you need them. I will always be grateful for their help.
Phil Brennaman the people who carried out 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia but since they give us our oil we didn’t invade them. Then we made up reasons to invade Afghanistan and Iraq where thousands died. The UK joined us for the right reasons but for the wrong purpose.
@@jacksonthesyndicalist2771 it was not the government of Saudi Arabia that attacked us. It was planned out of Afghanistan. Just because some of their citizens We're responsible you don't take down the government of the country they grew up in.
I was reduced to tears when the fifer played the grenadier's return as they carried the coffin into the herc. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. God bless the grenadiers, the british army and rest of the services (RN, RAF, MN)
Joined in 98 and left in 2002! it's been 16 years and i still remember every beasting i got served and all the good mates i found and also lost in service. I wouldn't change it for anything. Proud to have served my Queen and country.
@@lordvader3808 So basically if you wanna Join the British Army you must go to British website sign up and then if you come from any other country you must do commonwealth
And you must learn how to speak British Accent for my opinion because I also joined it when I was 16 years old but I left in 39 years old so must learn how to speak British Mate
RIP all, and every Grenadier and soldier/sailor/marine/airman/coastie who for the safety of his/her nation. You served your country well with honor. I thank you for your bravery and courage. Sincerely, From a fellow patriotic teenage American, who loves his country, and his country's allies
My great grandad (my Dad's Dad's Dad) was with the Grenadiers from the 2nd Boer War until his death in the Spanish Flu of 1918. He became the RSM before his death. He will always have a special place in our family history, and the Guards will too.
what i knew is just those iconic "guards" standing still at the palace facade. the famous changing of the guards and trooping of the colour nothing else. but i was really amazed what is all about, everything behind how these magnificent soldiers are made of. my respect and honor to the British Grenadiers. on a side note; that Sgt. Maj Steve Monroe... tough yet seems have a soft spot in his heart though, with a funny side in his pocket to spare with :) if i could turn back the time...i were a British, i would be a Grenadier. go Grenadiers!
It's a beautiful sight, those wonderful ranks of red tunics. And the losses break your heart. Such young guys, theyre better than I could ever be. I have unending respect for them.
What a crazy roller coaster of humor, pride and utter heartbreak. Any tourist who causes trouble with these amazing heroes should be forced to watch this series and apologize, or be locked up! Good on the Queen for looking each guardsman in the eye. 💂♂️ 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
I wish they had done a full series on the Guards, these three episodes were very well produced! Quite informative as well! I really enjoyed the perspectives of all the individuals they had featured.
Of course it was well produced it was produced by the Royals during the height of the wars in the middle east. It was basically a recruitment commenlrcial.
That's actually how I found this series, ran across a random video of an idiot tourist messing with them. Seriously disrespectful. They should be made to watch this series.
***** Haha I found this series the same way you did too. Tourists can be really ignorant to the point of disrespect when they're in another man's country. I think it should be mandatory for people to educate themselves with some must-know facts about a country before they visit it.
I wholeheartedly agree! The whole point of visiting another country is to learn about their culture and way of life, and key to that is respect of their traditions and etiquette.
The CSM of Nijmegen Company was brilliant, his duty of care to his men is exceptional...... from teaching them about their ceremonial duties and Trooping of the Colour to preparing the fallen soldiers' friends for his funeral. A true father figure to the lads.🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
This was an eye opener. Everyone knows that uniform, but relatively little is known about the guys in the big hats over here in the US. That was a great doc and I have a lot of respect for those soldiers.
RIP fallen royal guards, and thank you for your heroism, sincerely from the United States. To the guards that are still with us, good job for doing what you do, total respect.
My father was in the Coldstream Guards and he was surprised to learn that the requirement of 6ft and over had changed. He himself was 6' 2" when he joined, before and during WW2. He was injured in France. Loved the Regiment and proud of serving under King George. Taught his family what duty, loyalty and service meant. "Second to None".
I'm American and I have much respect for the grenadier guards, and the UK Army in general. It was such a pleasure to see the Queen Elizabeth arrive to our shores in the US. 💪
With all my respect my fellow servicemen.. Your sacrifice will never leave our hearts.. God bless you all. Guardsmen of honour... Simon Davison, Tony Downes, David Atherton, Daniel Probyn, Daryl Hickey. We will remember you!!! RIP.
To watch this series it must make people from the UK proud. thank you for this series and please do not forget the many who have made the greatest sacrifice, Summa Cum Laude to the Guard. Rob From Canada
Not really no we went to a country that we no right to be in and we killed women & children and old men.The TALIBAN was only defending there honour and çountry against some alien foreigners?? Wouldn't we do the exact same thing if they invaded the UK & CANADA?? And we are tellingthems where to go and what to do and when to do it??? While arresting your Father,Son,Brother on trumped up terrorism chargers and sent to GUANTANAMO where they all got tortured and some died..And we lost a lot of bloody good lads well young kids actually same with CANADA you lost some absolutely great soldiers as well RIP and all for what exacly??? Only for BIDEN to strike a deal with the TALIBAN then runaway like a f**king coward leaving our "enemy" with $85 BILLION DOLLARS of MILITARY HARDWARE where is the sense in that??? Absolutely bonkers..SMH
brilliant, thanks for uploading. My dad used to say there are two kinds of people in the world . Those that are British and those that want to be British. Now I finally get it. RULE BRITANNIA
God bless all who have the bravey to go and fight for queen and country, these young lads are braver than I was at their age. Top respect to all and rest in peace all those (past and present) that laid down their lives for what they believed in and what they wanted to do. Great series.
I'm really glad that I watched the series. I had no idea that the guards did all of that. It's always heartbreaking when a young man or woman dies for their country and for freedom. Thank you for putting this on.
Are you aware that the national religion of Britain is Christianity, Pretty sure you being American is going to be the problem rather than your religion.
Long Live Her Majesty, Long May She Reign. Long Live Great Britain and Northern Ireland, The Commonwealth and Her overseas protectorates, dominions and territories. God Save Our Queen.
Before this there was a fly on the wall documentary about the Welsh guards and more recently one for the Coldstreamers, would love to see one about my old regiment the Scots guards.
When that Guardsman described his cap badge, that was pure unfiltered regimental pride right there. "It's not some weed, or a flower, it's a weapon.... and it's ours."
As a Canadian infantry soldier I served in Kandahar in 2007, from time to time I worked around the brits and they were decent to be around. Safe future tours troops.
I'm glad you said 'some'. I went on R&R to the UK, and visited places, took some pictures, enjoyed some food.... Actual tourist stuff, rather than stereotypical American tourist stuff, and never ran into any problems. Proof you can be a tourist without pissing off the local population.
Rest In Peace Simon (?) And Tony may there be a place for you in Heaven. It breaks my heart when soldiers die. It's the worst thing in the world together with when a friend of yours or hero to you has died. Quite a few friends I knew have died and my biggest hero died 3 years ago. I found out he was dead 2 years ago and will never get over it. I've tried to put him in the back of my mind, but when your major inspiration dies you can't. You have to remember those you have lost.
The only thing worse than your hero/mentor dying is when your child dies. Especially when your child is an adult. I thought it would be worse if you lost a child when they were still a kid but I was wrong. It’s way worse when you lose your adult child. Maybe because they’ve been a part of your life for more years I don’t know. And when you lose them in a stupid war it’s even worse. In WWII and even Vietnam and Korea we at least knew WHY we were fighting but Iraq? Afghanistan? What the hell is my son fighting for? Not democracy. Not against evil like the Nazi’s. Not against communist aggression. Not for our freedom. Not for our way of life. We have more reason to fight in Crimea than we do in Afghanistan. Don’t get me wrong I’m not anti military or anti serve your country. Im just anti stupid fricken waste of lives, resources and money. My family has had at least one member from every generation serve his/her country for well over 1,000 years. I pray my grandson skips the military and goes straight to college. I think our family has served enough. Time for others to step up and take our place.
amazing documentary no other has had me laughing, crying, and feeling proud of be british at these have. totaly respect to our brave troops and our allies.
IT is such a waste that the sacrifice that these men is now in 2021 being ignored as the Afghan people are being abandoned at this point !! Long Live The Queen ; from Canada
Soldier humor 9:52 after seeing the fortified outpost: "Rorke's Drift, init?". References a battle in the Zulu war and a popular film with a young Michael Caine, and a lot of Zulu warriors.
I was so lucky I served with them in Afghanistan in 2010 in Camp Bastion, near Camp Leatherneck!!...and I even drove with them Brits Boys to a OutPost that took us 30 hours from Camp Bastion!
Julian Pomeroy I don't remember the specific unit, this was in 2010 and I was stationed in Camp Leatherneck and the Brits emptied out an Outpost and they had to move out all their equiptment,I was part of the Convoy escort.
ive seen tons of vids about the us army, and tons of vids about the airforce. but this, this is something special in of itself. i have much, much more resprect for the british military now. thanks for the awesome work of putting this dokumentation together.
Charles Barnett A good many Americans died to throw the Crown out. I'd fight alongside the British any day, but as an American I would not give my life for the Crown my countrymen died to reject.
They sent you to war in stripped down landrovers with bugger all armour. The politicians and senior staff that let that happen should have been strung up.
I am grateful for the sacrifice that these young men made & for that which has been made by any of both the British & Americans who are truly selfless in serving their countries & the Afghanistan from the Taliban. These young men have given their lives for the freedom of those who are oppressed. Their families may miss them, but can be proud of the sacrifice made by their sons & brothers.
How the hell did that mom and dad not burst out and cry hysterically during and after reading that letter from Tony? I didn't know the kid and i was in tears! 33:50
It’s mental that my brother was in the British army and went to the Afghan war and the amount of trauma he came back with. I don’t know a lot about what happened when he was there but I do know that watching these poor soldiers die just made me think a lot about how that could have happened to my brother and I would of never met him if it did
