It was probably one of the leaders of minimalist chic before Alessandro Michele’s recent 7 year director stint. There’s not much to say that chic isn’t for Gucci, more like chic just wasn’t for Alessandro.

No coming back to Tom Ford era. It is one of those unique moments in fashion when stars align and a miracle is created. Not even Tom Ford himself can do it again. He tried and failed. Compare this to Tom Ford era Gucci is like comparing cast plaster Davids sold on Florence streets with the Michelangelo original.

@ST-gl9qr Fashion is not as superficial as people think. Actually it's often a signal that a new era is coming or that an old era is ending. And when Tom Ford left Gucci, 2006 if I remember correctly, soon after 2008 crash came and all the opulence from period before was switched for something else. When Tom Ford came to Gucci his first collections from 1996 signaled the start of a more sexy approach to life that culminated around 2001, the pinnacle of Y2K fun and hedonism. After 9/11 things began cooling down and after 2008 optimism was dead. So Tom Ford era in Gucci is also an era in our civilization history. That what distances good fashion from bad fashion. Good fashion is always in sync with vibes of the era. Bad fashion is a copy that lacks this deeper sensibility of the times we live in. People don't understand how important the clothes really is for our civilization in general and for us as human beings. We don't respect clothes enough. But maybe we soon will.

There were other designers of course creating in the same period but Tom Ford achieved most iconic results. Like Cubism had many artists but Picasso is the one who was most iconic, that resonated the most with the masses. That's why we always come back to Tom Ford. There were also McQueen, Galliano and few others but Tom nailed it good enough to be art and commercial enough to be accepted as everyday clothes copied for the masses. I still get the chills every time I see SS96 or FW9697 Gucci ad. It was perfection at it's finest. Visual sign that something new is coming and it came. Sorry if I wrote a novel but he deserves it 😅

I agree, Alessandro is artist , not only designer .

Alessandro made Gucci tacky. His designs were hideous and quirky for quirkiness sake. He made it only about himself, "nerdiness" and not about Gucci. Sabato de Sarno will restore Gucci to greatness with elegance and style.

@@ohslytherin94 Michele's tenure made Gucci profits for about 5 years because he was silly and camp, but he significantly harmed the brand's reputation and lowered it's prestige. Gucci became a joke because of him. For goodness sake, Michele was pulling design inspiration from clowncore at the end. Clowncore! He hid his lack of range behind maximalist fetishism and superficial virtue signaling. It's time to return to skill and innovation. Sabato could be as iconic as Tom Ford was for Gucci. And WOMEN will love de Sarno's designs. Michele was incapable of dressing a woman's body so he avoided trying to do it all together and screamed "gender fluidity" or made them look dowdy to cover up for his lack of design skill. This revamp is overdue for Gucci! Smartest business move they've made in years.

They have their own era and totally I support them because it's better to make your own styles than continuing other people's legacy that could be a big failure like Virginie Viard. Even if Sabato can bring successful but many people know that his styles are inspired by Tom Ford and Tom is the one people remember. Unless, Sabato can make his own trend that I wish in the future, so people don't make mistake designs from Gucci and Tom Ford.

You have every right to be emotional. I had the exact same thought today as well. The lense of which Alessandro sees through, he showed us utilizing fashion and Gucci itself that there is luxury, joy, and LOVE found within people who don’t fit the “norm.” Likewise, his world is paralleled through LoveHer by Romy where she sings about how much she loves her wife. It’s like the new CD said, this show is for everyone. Everyone is invited and everyone can participate and I love that. I won’t lie, at first I was super bitter and childishly disregarding this show, but after I sat down and took everything in I changed my mind. I might even get those embellished dresses 🤭, but only time will tell.

It will be an event beyond anything we have seen until now. A totally new way of doing things. The collaboration is actually between Gucci, Zara, Uniqlo, Gap and Mango. So they will release it across all four retailers 😂
