Thank you for such interesting test:) Let's try to guess: 1. German (Deutsch) voice of Angela Merkel. 2. Mix of Scottish Gaelic and some of Finno-Ugric language. Don't know what exactly is it. 3. A kind of mix from Portuguese and Romanian. 4. Irish. 5. Danish or Norsk. 6. French (probably voice of Jacques Chirac). 7. Strange Dutch :) 8. Samoan (sounds very similar with Tongan). 9. Welsh (Cymraeg). 10. Korean. 11. Finnish. 12. Arabic (maybe Egyptian Arabic). 13. Perhaps it is Swedish. 14. Japanese. 15. Polish. 16. Scottish English. 17. Icelandic. 18. Swahili. 19. One of the languages of India, possibly Hindi. 20. Lithuaninan.

My guesses: 1. *German | Correct* - [I just heard it in there.] 2. _Norwegian | Wrong - (Northern Sami)_ - [To me it sounds like Russian and Swedish combined, yet I do not know anything about Norwegian. I wouldn't have got this!] 3. _Portuguese | Wrong - Romansh_ - [The words were full of "ch" and "sh"s with slightly Italian speech, I guess I assumed it too early. I wouldn't have got this!] 4. _Dutch or Quebecois | Wrong -- Irish_ - [It sounded like someone who speaks English or has an English-speaking accent with various words sounding like English but mostly comprised of some other language. I would have got this if the Irish accent was stronger, lol.] 5. _Swedish | Wrong - Norwegian_ - [Close!] 6. *French | Correct* - [I am learning French.] 7. _Flemish | Wrong - Afrikaans_ - [Close? Maybe a little close atleast!] 8. _Maori? | Wrong - Samoan_ - [I almost picked Hawaiian or an African country here because of the music in the background. I wouldn't have got this!] 9. *Welsh | Correct* - [I wouldn't have got this without the "-mru" sounds and the semi-English accent.] 10. *Korean | Correct* - [Nida! nida! nida! and overall!] 11. *Finnish | Correct* - [I listen to Finnish music, usually rap often.] 12. *Arabic? | Correct* - [Personally, it sounded very obvious with how the words and pronunciation sound.] 13. _Scots Gaelic or Irish? | Wrong - (Western Frisian)_ - [It sounded to me like one of those two because of the accent sounding English 14. *Japanese | Correct* - [It was there.] 15. _Romanian? | Wrong - Polish_ - [It sounded to me like a mix of Slavic words (I heard "dobry" with a bit of Latin sounding words (formiuonse? functioniovanje?) yet it wasn't at all.] 16. *_Scots Gaelic | Wrong/Correct?_* - [I heard "Scotland" and it had all the Scots sounds, except I wouldn't have got this because TIL the Lowland Scots language 17. *Icelandic | Correct* - [I heard Old Norse, but it was mainly the use of "th" and my personal experience with an Icelandic friend." 18. *Swahili | Correct* - [If it was any other African language under North Africa, I totally wouldn''t have known!] 19. *Hindi or Urdu or Bangla | Correct* - [I was a little too stumped here to decide a final answer, but atleast I got it correct!] 20. _Russian or Ukrainian | Wrong - Lithuanian_ - [No way, I did not see that coming!]

0. Guess (comment about guess) 1. German (speak German) 2. Persian (sounded slavic/arabic/maybe germanic) 3. Romanian (sounded weirdly germanic, slavic, romantic) 4. Swedish (sounded germanic - apparently not) 5. Danish (close) 6. French (speak French) 7. Dutch (close) 8. Finnish (maybe vaguely germanic, icelandic? maybe not, finnish?) 9. Welsh (don't know this language but got it!) 10. Chinese (sounded Asian, on second thought sounds closer to Japanese than Chinese) 11. Amharic (thought it was a bit Arabic-ish) 12. Arabic (know a bit of Arabic) 13. Some form of German (not too far off) 14. Japanese (studied Japanese) 15. Serbian (kinda close, sounded like a lot of things) 16. Scottish English (close because I know about Scots and had that in mind, just thought it was too close to English) 17. Norwegian (close) 18. Bantu (quite close, just didn't hear any Arabic) 19. Bulgarian (on a second listen I hear the Indian accent) 20. Italian (thought it was Romance but sounded a little Slavic) So I got 1,6,9,12,14 right, and was close on 5,7,13,16,18, sorta close on 3,15,17. Very off on 2,4,8,10,11,19,20.

François Ganger Baltic languages, Sami, Finnish and Hungarian are part of the Finno-Ugrian language family as far as I know. An older language family than the Slavic, Germanic and Latin languages and originally deriving from the Ural/Siberia. Some moved East, crossing the Bering Straits landbridge, and became the Native Americans. Some moved West and settled around the Baltic coast, in Finland, Northern Scandinavia and also in the North Balcan steppes. Allthough there are significant Eastern Gothic and Mongolean influences in Hungarian, the ideom and the flexes remained. It is ancient language family, but not the oldest. The oldest language is Baskian, a branch that was spoken by Europeans, even before the Fins came from Siberia and the Celts came from Central Asia. 1.Baskian; unique 2.Finno-Ugrian; Baltic, Finnish, Sami, Hungarian 3.Celtic; Irish Gealic, Welsh, Scottish Gealic, Bretonic, Ancient and modern Greek, Latin, (Spanish, Portugese, French, Rumenian) Germanic (German, Dutch, English, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Frisian). 4.Slavic; Serbian, Slovenian, Croatian, Albanian, Bosnian, Czechian, Slowacian, Bulgarian, Polish, RUSSIAN, Ukranian, etc.. Am I wrong?

Wow, only got German, French, Korean, Japanese, Polish and Icelandic (most of them lucky guesses). Thought Lithuanian was Ukrainian, they both have a sweet sound with strong consonants (from what I perceive as a non-speaker). Afrikaans sounds beautiful, hadn't heard it before. And I found it funny some people think Portuguese sounds like slavic languages, because to me Spanish (which is very alike to Portuguese) has similar sounds to Russian, even though it's a latin language (native Portuguese speaker here, btw).

McDucky You wrote: "Maybe you should be more clear that it's Norwegiand and Swedish that don't sound like Finnish." Which made me think that you did not understand my original comment. It looked like you thought that I wasn't clear enough about the fact that swedish and norwegian doesn't sound like finnish, which wasn't my original point. My point was that swedish, norwegiand and finnish does not sound liek the 2nd language, which is the northern sami language.

+Giri93067 Well, if you're watching anime, I'd suppose not. The speech in anime is rarely realistic. If you're interested in Japanese, listening to the news from time to time or just watching live-action shows would be a good idea (^^)b He was speaking reaaalllly slowly! I think it's a recording for a listening exam more than an actual earthquake report. EDIT: Listened to it again, it's actually the Emperor lol

Afrikaans has different spelling than dutch, but is extremely similar. Its descended from vulgar dutch and has been more heavily influenced by English over time.

This was so much fun! I am absolutely shocked and intrigued that I thought Finnish was something native American. I just kept thinking it sounded like what they spoke in Last of the Mohicans LOL. And I'm a bit ashamed that I had no guess at all for Sami. Also, weird that I thought Samoan sounded Germanic. I needed to listen to it again but didn't. But, I am not a polyglot. I have studied five languages and I'm only fluent in one so I am not ashamed of these results lol. 1. German 2. No idea 3. Italian-like? 4. Irish Gaelic 5. Something Scandinavian?? 6.French 7. Swedish 8. Really unsure... sounded Germanic? 9. Welsh? 10. Mandarin?? 11. Native American 12. Sounds like Arabic 13. I want to say Dutch. I'm so confused lol 14. Japanese 15. Polish 16. I know that ten is Korean. I was wrong regarding a lot of these languages. I posted the answers I thought were correct the minute I heard them based on my insufficient knowledge. Regarding Korean, I actually had some very close Korean friends when I was young who helped me learn a little Korean. However, I still misunderstood it in this video. Thanks for your concern lol.Daniel Bunn
